Chapter 72: A Father’s Haunting Presence (2)
Li Qingcang shielded Ye Tianxin behind him calmly, and Lu Jijun looked disapprovingly when he saw this. He was still against the idea that Ye Tianxin’s boyfriend was a man from a wealthy family.
“Mr. Lu, aren’t you well aware of the reason why Grandmother would change wards?” Li Qingcang spoke with condescension. “We changed wards because we don’t want to have anything to do with you. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?”
Lu Jijun sighed and responded, ignoring Li Qingcang, “Tianxin, why are you so stubborn? Your grandmother needs to undergo surgery. How would you be able to handle this all by yourself? Besides, this is not a minor surgery. Where would you get the money from? I am aware that you hate me, but could we discuss this civilly for the time being?”
Ye Tianxin’s lips slowly curled up into a smirk. She could not understand how he could be so brazen.
‘What makes him think that I would bear a grudge against him?’ Ye Tianxin pondered. ‘I don’t hate or blame him. If someone is to blame for everything that had happened, it will be me… I’m the one who should be blamed. I was too foolish and easily led on.’
“Mr. Lu, you have a daughter and a family. I have no intention of intervening in your family’s affairs, but, similarly, I hope that you won’t meddle with my peaceful life with my grandmother. I ask for your understanding on this. My grandmother’s affairs are of no concern to you and your daughter.”
While Lu Jijun wanted to move closer to Ye Tianxin, he did not dare do so, for he was certain that Li Qingcang would definitely step in again.
Lu Jijun was a respectable man, and it would be foolish of him—more likely to look like one—if he were to be thrown out again like the last time.
“Tianxin, I’m your father. I will not harm you,” Lu Jijun promised. “Believe me, I also hope for your grandmother’s complete healing. Don’t be so hostile towards me. The most important things for us now are your grandmother and your college entrance examination.” Unfortunately, his words fell on deaf ears.
Ye Tianxin felt grateful for the fact that Mother Du Juan had allowed her to star in a movie by the renowned director, Jin Xin, which saved her from the need to beg for money from Lu Jijun. She was also thankful that she could face Lu Jijun with confidence and proudly declare that she had never depended on him for survival.
Above all, she was most grateful for the fact that she had managed to save Li Qingcang back then. He was like a huge tree that could guard a sapling like her firmly against harsh conditions.
“Mr. Lu, there’s no need for you to concern yourself with my affairs or my grandmother’s illness. I beg you to stay away from my family,” Ye Tianxin demanded. When she spoke, she looked as charming as her mother, Ye Linlang.
“No matter how adverse the conditions are, she remains firm and stubborn. She’s exactly like her mother, Linlang…Ye Linlang…,” Lu Jijun thought.
She was a lifelong dream that he had been chasing after.
“Tianxin, it’s impossible for me to stay away from you. Back then, your grandmother refused to hand you over to me. I should have insisted on raising you by my side. Now that Grandmother is ill, please give me a chance to be a father to you. You could depend on me for the rest of your life,” Lu Jijun promised and stole a glance at Li Qingcang. Although he noticed Li Qingcang’s displeasure, he went on, “Besides, I’m your father, and I will never allow you to fall in love at an early age.”
