Sitting in the car, Elaine sneezed without warning and felt dizzy.
Darnell raised his hand and touched her forehead, then took off his jacket and put it over her:
“Remember to take some cold medicine when you get back, it's cooling down in the past two days,
wear more.”
Elaine leaned into his arms, wrapped her arms around his strong, thin waist, and looked up at him
blearily, “Can I come home with you?”
Damell lowered his eyes, met her gaze, and his thin lips twitched slightly, “No”
Elaine knew that would be the answer, and she pouted, “I lost the man my dad sent to follow me today,
and when I get home, he's going to scold me”
"If you don't come home tonight, he's not just going to scold you.”
"But I'm hard, dizzy and uncomfortable, I don't want to go back to be scolded, tomorrow ...... I'd rather
go back to be beaten tomorrow,
Darnell rubbed her head, ‘I'll walk you in, he won't scold you.”
Franklin would only scold him.
Elaine thought it made sense. Her father, no matter how angry he was, would not have flared up in
front of Darnell, but would only lecture her in private.
And after a good night's sleep, his anger may have subsided some more.
She rubbed her little face in his arms and closed her eyes contentedly.
Soon, the black car slowly drove into the carved gate.
After getting out of the car, Elaine followed Darnell and waited until she reached the living room before
cautiously poking a head out, “Daddy”
Franklin sat there with a sullen face, not saying a word, as if he was brewing anger.
He glanced at Elaine before looking ahead of her at Darnell, who nodded slightly at him.
Franklin clearly had no intention of paying attention to him, but instead asked Elaine a soulful question,
“Elaine, where were you this afternoon”
Elaine sniffed and hugged Damell's arm a little nervously, "I ...... I'm going to dinner with Natasha and
Archer”
Franklin saw this and looked even more obtrusive, taking a deep breath before saying, "Then what did
you do to get rid of the people I sent to follow you.”
“I...” Elaine's eyes rolled as she racked her brain trying to come up with an excuse.
At this time, Darnell said, "Elaine she got a little cold from the rain, let her go to her room to change
first’
Elaine nodded along.
Franklin wanted to say something, and seeing that Elaine still had Darnell's jacket on her, he waved his
hand in annoyance, gesturing for her to hurry upstairs.
Elaine saw the crisis lifted and rushed away.
As she went up the stairs, she didn't forget to turn her head and wave at Darnell.
Darnell tooked at her, a few smiles rising in his dark eyes, and wordlessly said two words, “Take your
medicine”
Elaine made an OK gesture.
Waiting for Elaine's figure to disappear around the corner of the stairs, Franklin continued to speak:
“Elaine little do not know how to do things, you also follow the nonsense.”
Darnell withdrew his eyes, collected the emotions on his face little by little, sat across from Franklin,
and replied in one word: “I'm not fooling around, I'll protect her”
Franklin said, “The best protection you can give her is to stay away from her”
Darnell was noncommittal and set the record straight: "I promised her that I would keep you with him,
so I want you to go to Switzerland with her.”
Franklin probably did not expect that one day Darnell will arrange a back way for him, he was silent for
a while before saying, “I have already made a decision on this matter, you do not need to make the
decision for me”
“I just don't want Elaine to be sad, you're the only family she has left.”
Hearing this, Franklin couldn't help but frown.
Darnell said, “I know your concems, the James family side, I'll take care of it.”
Franklin said, “Once Elaine leaves Riverside City they will strike, the James family so many people, can
you defend every one of them, or can you kill them all”
‘I'll take care of those.”
Franklin shook his head: “I don't want Elaine to live in danger and fear forever, I want her to have a
happy and joyful future.”
Darnell said lightly: "Do you think she will be happy in the future if you die. If she knew that you had
gone that far for her, she would be in self-recrimination and remorse for the rest of her life”
“By that time she had gone to Switzerland, she wouldn't have known”
“Do you really think that Elaine doesn't understand anything. Would she think that your death was a
simple accident, or that she wouldn't even come back for your funeral?”
Franklin's frown deepened: “Didn't we make a deal between us, and after I die, you should take care of
these.”
Darneil said, "I've changed my mind.”
Franklin: "....."
He was furious: “Darnell, this is not a trivial matter, this is about the future of the entire James family
and even Riverside City, do you have any idea what it would mean if you did this?”
Darnell looked unchanged: “I promise you that I will not see her again as long as you leave with Elaine.’
Franklin opened his mouth and his expression changed several times.
This is indeed a great temptation for him.
Darnell got up: “But if you die, I will get Elaine with me, and I will not see her alone in a place that is
completely foreign to her”
"You..."
"So I hope you will reconsider.”
After the words, Darnell nodded slightly at him and then headed upstairs.
Franklin snapped back, “The door is over there!”
‘I'll watch her take her medicine and leave.’
“I thought you said you wouldn't ...... later”
Halfway through the sentence, Franklin stopped again.
Forget it.
Franklin stood downstairs for a few minutes, after all, there is a previous experience, he is still not very
comfortable with Oarnell and Elaine alone in a room, thought about it or lighten up the steps upstairs.
In the room, Elaine had just come out of the shower and had sneezed twice in quick succession.
She blew her hair half dry and was just about to slack off and wait for it to dry naturally when she
turned her head and saw Darnell leaning against a wall not far away.
Elaine was stunned, her expression was then covered with surprise, and was about to run over when
Darnell's voice rang out, "Go and blow dry your hair.”
“But I......”
“Or I'm leaving.”
Elaine reluctantly said "Oh" and went back to the bathroom to blow-dry her hair.
During that time, she looked back several times to make sure Darnell was still there.
He was sitting in the sofa with, in front of him, the dinner and cold medicine that the maid had just
brought up.
Elaine haphazardly blew out her hair almost, then ran out again and sat next to him, hugging his arm,
her voice soft and infinitely happy: “How did you get in here? Where's my dad?"
Darnell said, “Outside the door”
Elaine: “?”
The comers of Darnell's lips curled down and he handed her the chopsticks, “Eat.”
Elaine slowly let go of him, then got up and walked to the door, quickly pulling it open, and saw her dad
with his hands behind his back and his head cocked as if he was eavesdropping.
