She had wanted to contact her daddy for a while, but with Diana around, she didn’t dare to speak up.
She hesitated again. “Mommy, are you going to see the bad man?”
“Yes.” Diana nodded. “Mommy has things to do, and you have things to do too. Only when we both
finish our tasks can your daddy come to find us and take us home.”
Betty seemed to understand vaguely. She didn’t quite grasp the relationships between adults. Just
