Bevy of troubles
/Damien earns all respects “How could he even do that. How could he?” Claire was raving. The other
girls were gathered around her. She was in the middle. “What’s this about?”
Laurette spoke up. “What isn’t it about? He got us drunk yesterday and everyone of you is cool with
that? None of you think he had an ulterior motive?” “Maybe you’re thinking too much?” Evelyn came
on, but Claire wasn’t going to give in. “Am I? Have you thought about it this way? Maybe I’m the only
sane person here. Maybe the rest of you don’t think I do the thinking for you!!!!” Mira stepped forward.
“What’s the fuss about, Claire. I know you don’t like him. But this is quite obvious. If he had ulterior
motive and doesn’t care about us, would he had left some meat for us and prepare that hangover
soup? Wouldn’t he had left us for dead?” Claire bursted out into a weird kind of laugh. The rest of the
girls were stupefied. “Why wouldn’t he prepare a hangover soup and meat when he already had his
way last night. I wonder why legs are quaking. He’s such a shady bastard.” “Are you saying that he
raped us?”
Jada gave life to her glare. She seemed tired of the shit show. “You’re not that dumb after all.”
Claire threw her face away, in an indifferent manner.
“Are you so stupid or so full of yourself. Because I can’t quite wrap my head around it.” Jada let the
devil loose. Claire’s jaw dropped, eyes widening. Jada continued at once. “At first I thought you were
being sane trying to care for the welfare of the other girls. Probably the feminist drive. But now, there’s
no doubt, you’re just a psycho who is obsessed with being at the top. It kills you that you can’t control
us. It makes you wanna die because you lost to a loser. You can’t accept that he’s our leader.” Claire
shook her head. “I’m not surprised, Ja-bitch. You’ll always fight for him. After all, you’re his whore.”
Jada chuckled, stepping forward.
“At least I got to fuck him. Who knows what you’d end up doing? I won’t be surprised if I see you
sucking on the cock of a cannibal. You belong with them. After all you’ve always talked about their
strength. The only thing I can’t understand was what Lisa saw in you. I pity her.

How could she crush on a dummy and selfish prick like you.”
“What?”
The other girls exclaimed, all eyes moved to Lisa. “Wait, Lisa has a crush on me?”
Claire turned to Lisa.
“Is that true?”
Jada interrupted,
“Not, it’s not. What do you think? That Lisa sticks around you because you’re as calm as dove? You
salty salamander with crappy attitude.” “Who told you to tell her?”
Lisa got mad and charged at Jada. “You fucking bitch.” She grabbed Jada and started hitting her,
slapping her mercilessly in the face. The other girls joined in and tried to separate them. “If you’re
useless and can’t get anything done could you at least get along please.” They all stopped brawling
and turned to the owner of the masculine voice. “I can’t imagine going away to make sure we are safe
and come back to this insanity.” Damien didn’t bother to hide his displeasure. He was so pissed off. He
didn’t care that they all gaped at him for generalizing. He didn’t leave anyone out of the criticism. “Get
out of my way, I need to help someone. I pray she doesn’t end up bickering like y’all jobless lot.”
He broke his way through them, edging towards the safehouse.
“Allison.”
“Wait, it’s Allison.”
“Oh God, it’s Allison.”
The ladies forgot about their differences as soon as they saw who Damien was carrying. They helped
each other inside, looking all concerned and touched. Aren’t they cute?
“Where did you find her?”
“What happened to her?” “She looks like a –”
“Let’s help her the best way we can. That’s all that matters.”
Damien wasn’t ready to go on explaining anything. He was way too exhausted to talk. He knew that if
he started by answering just one question, then he would become his grandpa who answers a hundred
questions in two minutes. He didn’t have that patience.

“I’ll let what happened earlier go if the lot of you can prove yourself useful by bringing her back to
reality. She’s is in a great shock. She needs love, care, warmth. Who knows when last she ate
anything. It’s been over almost a week since we got here.” Evelyn walked to Allison and touched her
cheek “Hey, girl. You are safe now. No harm will come to you again.”
“Go away! Go away!”
Allison pushed her away, saliva dripping from the former’s mouth.
“This won’t work.”
Damien sighed. He had no clue. He wished the system could help him. Another girl tried to talk to
Allison but she only got madder and restless.
It got to a point when she stood up and wanted to run off. None of the ladies could hold her back. She
grabbed a hunting knife which was close and threatened to kill whoever stood in her way.
SHE MUST BE REALLY TROUBLED. Damien stepped in her way, standing by the door. “Damien,
she’d stab you.”
Jada called but he didn’t budge. He had strange ideas. His brain was doing a quick calculation. A sorta
calculation which he wouldn’t had been able to do in his normal days.
“Don’t try to be hero, just step away.” Damien was touched. Not really. But he couldn’t but gawk at
Claire who had just spoken. “Isn’t this a better chance to get rid of me?”
He scorned at her. She rolled her eyes, “Die then.”
Allison charged at him, determined to stab his heart out. Damien moved smoothly to the side, ducking
the thrust. Missing her aim, Allison lost her balance, falling through the door. Before she could reach
the floor, Damien grabbed her. He held firmly unto her with one of his hands. It didn’t seem like he was
holding anything. The weight felt unusually light. Allison kept dangling the knife in her hand, Damien
tried to use his other hand to hit the knife off. He did, but suffered a slight cut in his wrist.
The girls flinched at the sight of blood. Damien didn’t feel much pain.
Knocking off the knife, he was able to grab her and hold her firmly to his chest. She kicked restlessly
against his body, but he didn’t let go. He kept holding onto her.
She fought and fought till she got tired. When she got tired, she suddenly bursted out crying. She
hugged him and held firmly unto him. He held unto too for a while then helped her to rest.

“I’ll watch over you. Sleep first.” He assured her. The other girls watched him in awe. He could see
respect in their gazes. Even Claire couldn’t hide it.
He sighed, then looked back at the victim. He couldn’t enjoy the mood their respect bred. He felt really
sad for Allison.
