Brendan watched her put on an act coldly. “Don’t you know yet?”

was ill in the study room for the whole night. It’s possible that I would be admitted to the hospital today
if not for Deirdre.”

happen? You had dinner with us yesterday. Could it be some sort of food poisoning?”
She suddenly said, “Could it be Mrs. Engel? She refused to let me check on you in the study room by
blocking my path. Perhaps it was her who drugged your meal so you could reconcile your relationship
with Miss McKinnon.”
Brendan looked at her and said, “I share the same thinking too. Otherwise, why would I be drugged for
no reason? However, other than the dinner yesterday, I had only consumed one more thing, and it was
the coffee you made me. It’s fortunate that I still have half of the coffee left. I’m going to send it to get
tested in a laboratory. If the coffee is fine, it must be Mrs. Engel. Don’t worry. I won’t let her off for sure
when the test results are out.”
She felt a shiver down her spine, and her gaze was shifting in panic. She watched as Brendan was
about to call Sam so he could send the coffee to get tested. Charlene hastily grabbed his arm and
smiled forcefully.
“Brendan, it’s unnecessary to get it tested since nothing bad happened. Miss McKinnon will surely be
sad if she learns that Mrs. Engel is at fault when the test results are out. She is pregnant and
emotional. It will not be good for her.”
