Aleera's POV

For the first time in a long time I was able to sleep without any nightmares. You can just guess how

nice it was, I had nothing to worry about.

I felt something move over my right cheek. What was this strange and unfamiliar feeling that this touch

left me with? Why does it feel like my guts are filled with butterflies and electricity that travels over my

body?

Then the feeling was gone. It was probably nothing, so I didn't think much about it and I tried to get

back to sleep. I needed rest to get my strength back. Wait, that unfamiliar feeling is back. I felt

something move over my cheek again and this time I opened my eyes to see Darius brushing his hand

over my cheek. I moved back with fear all over my face.

"Sorry if I woke you up." He said in a calm voice.

"W..ha..t are you do..in..g." The words came out in a stutter.

"You had something on your cheek so I removed it for you." He answered me.

I was confused and I guess my facial expression showed it. "W..ha..t did I ha..ve?" I stuttered.

"You had a tear on your cheek." He answered me back with a sad smile on his face.

Was I crying?

It was not before I looked around I noticed that Celia was not in the room.

"Where is Celia?" I whispered, slowly starting to feel less scared.

"She had to go and take care of an emergency so she asked me to come and sit here with you until

she came back." He had a slight smile when he said this.

I nodded my head. I still felt a bit nervous about him being here, alone with me. Celia is not here to

save me if he does something so I laid close to the left side of the bed farthest from him as I watched

him closely. My brain spun around and I could not relax with him being here. It felt like my brain was

riding a rollercoaster.

I didn't hear that Darius tried to talk to me before I felt his hand over my hand. I looked down

immediately when I felt the sparks travel where our skin touches. It felt so good, but why? It scares me

a bit so I removed my hand.

I looked up at him trying to avoid looking into his brown eyes but something pulled me to meet them.

When my eyes looked right into his I could see the pain. Why does he feel pain? What is going on?

Something in his eyes pulled me to drift away and I don't know how to explain it but I loved his eyes. I

was terrified and a warning voice echoed in the back of my mind. What is this feeling? I don't know if I

should ask or not. I broke our eye contact and looked down.

"Thanks, I whisper out to him

He was taken aback. "What are you thanking me for?" He asked, confused.

"You know, for saving me." I told him.

A smile grew on his face. "Anyone would have done the same thing as I did when I saved you."

"But why did you save me? I am nothing. I am just a girl and you don't know me. So why?" I spoke

really fast and I didn't know why I spoke fast but it's out now and there's nothing I can do about how

fast it came out.

I glanced just a little bit at him, avoiding his eyes. I could see he was confused and that my question

had formed a question mark all over his face.

"Why wouldn't I save you? You are not just a girl, you are more than nothing, and yes I do not know

you now but I do plan to change that." His voice was calm but a little frustrated.

"That doesn't answer my question." I was more frustrated.

He took a deep breath before he answered me.

"Okay, do you know what a mate is?"

"Yes I do, what does that have to do with why you saved me?" Now he was getting on my nerves. Does

he think I have no brain cells?

"I saved you because you are my mate." he said loud, proud, and clear.

The air I was breathing in got stuck in my throat, I was confused.

"No, that can't be." I told him.

"Why can't it be? You are my mate. That's one of the reasons I have. I was out in the forest when I got

a whiff of your scent and I must say I really like it. It's like a mix of roses and sweet grapes."

He took a breath again before he continued.

"But that is not the only reason. I would have saved you anyway because you don't treat a woman that

way. When I found you, you were in quite a bad state. I thought I was going to lose you right then and

there. I have been looking a long time for my mate and I was so happy when I found you but I was

furious when I saw what state you were in."

The room was left in silence for a couple of minutes before I spoke.

"Just do it."

"Do what?" He asked me.

"Reject me. Why do you want a broken girl like me?" I whispered with my voice sounding small and

broken. I couldn’t help the lonely tear that slipped out from stopping. My heart felt like it wanted to

break and I’m not sure why or how to take the feeling.

"That is out of the question. I will not reject you."

"Why not?" I asked him.

“Because I don't want to give you up.” Darius answered me.

He moved closer to me and reached out his hand and touched my cheek. He moved his hand under

my chin and moved my head so I was looking right into his eyes.

"Do you know how much I adore your eyes? They are so beautiful. I don't know the pain that's hiding

inside them but I will be here for you and one day you will be here for me too." He said to me and I

can’t help but think he is serious.

I noticed that he started to lean in closer. I didn't know what he was doing so when he almost touched

my lips with his, my eyes grew and I moved away from him.

My whole body was shaking and tears were running down my face and I screamed out of fear. Just

when I finished screaming on the top of my lungs the door burst open and Celia came running in.

"What happened?" Celia asked Darius in a worried and panicked voice.

"I don't know. I think I scared her." Darius said with pain in his voice.

"Darius, please get out so I can give her lenitive to calm her down."

Darius nodded and walked out of the door, closing it behind him. Celia puts lenitive directly into my

blood and as soon as it starts to spread through my bloodstream I start to calm down and it leaves me

feeling so tired that I start to doze off.
