Chapter 1068: Crypt Lord

After all the wyrm ghosts rushed out of the sea, they immediately launched a frenzied attack on the crowd on the battlefield, causing the battlegrounds to quake vigorously again right after stabilizing. Each of the nearly 100 wyrm ghosts had strength that was above the Legendary-level[1]. As soon as they appeared, they caused the people of the Breezy Plains to be in a tough battle again.

At this moment, Lin Li could not be bothered about the others anymore, because he was now facing a Sanctuary-level wyrm ghost. The wyrm ghost was obviously much larger than the other wyrm ghosts, and had a more solid body. It was as if it had a complete body.

That was also the reason Lin Li could instantly recognize the identity of the wyrm ghost to be the powerful Antora who was known as the Death Shadow, came from the Obsidian Wyrm clan, and was second only to the Dragon of Destruction Azardas while also being his most loyal subordinate. The Death Shadow Antora was once said to have had a very high status, and had even been perceived as the successor of the Dragon of Destruction Azardas.

However, legend had it that during the war between the Titans and the wyrms during the prehistoric times, the Death Shadow Antora had been ambushed in the Endless Ocean by 12 Golden Titans. Finally, Antora fell into the Endless Ocean. At the time, his blood was said to have spilled all over the Endless Ocean, and people could even hear a mournful dragon’s cry.

Truth be told, Lin Li was astonished when he recognized Antora. Fortunately, just like the other wyrm ghosts, Antora was no longer at the peak like he used to be in the past. Since he had already fallen from the peak of the Sanctuary-realm, he was probably only at level-26 or level-27.

However, even then, Antora was still a powerful opponent for Lin Li. Most importantly, the Legendary-level wyrm shadows that Lin Li faced were definitely a force not to be ignored.

Is Antora the existence sealed under Cage Island? If that was the case, it would be great, but unfortunately, the people of the Gilded Kingdom were still doing their best to repair the Alchemy Array. Antora was obviously only one of the wyrm shadows that had been sealed. Judging from the performance of the people of the Gilded Kingdom, Lin Li could tell that they obviously knew what was actually sealed under Cage Island.

In fact, at this point, Lin Li could already vaguely guess what was sealed beneath Cage Island. However, he was in disbelief. After all, it was too different from the information that he had received from other sources.

On the battlefield, the large number of wyrm ghosts were divided into three groups. One was in charge of sieging the forces of the Breezy Plains, while another was responsible for attacking Elder Zumar’s World Domain. Lin Li was now facing the Death Shadow Antora—the third entity.

At this moment, no one could care anymore. The people of the Breezy Plains could be considered the weakest, but with the Spiritual Network of the Magic Net rings, they could cooperate tacitly. However, when it came to fighting with the wyrm ghosts, their strength was insufficient. After all, they were outnumbered by the wyrm ghosts.

Hence, at this moment, the people of the Breezy Plains were going all out, and using as much strength as they could. During normal circumstances, they might have used some more underhanded means, such as getting their companions to die for them, but none of them dared to do so now. One reason was that Lin Li’s presence had restrained them, and another was that once they spoke up, they might become the scapegoats of others instead.

At this juncture, Elvis and the other five Sanctuary powerhouses were also performing their duties as leaders, thus making them the strongest in their respective teams and also those who had to bear the greatest pressure. However, despite this, none of them considered leaving their companions to escape. They might have failed to notice it, but Lin Li’s words had already caused them to subconsciously obey and execute his orders.

As Lin Li said before, they were all from factions that had thousands of years of heritage, and all had great trump cards. In the face of the frenzied siege of the wyrm ghosts, everyone knew that it was not the time to reserve their trump cards. If they didn’t use them now, there might really be no chance to use them again in the future.

Relying on his experience of exploring Prince Brahere’s mausoleum with Lin Li, Elvis was vaguely recognized as the leader of the six pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses. At this point, it was naturally the time for him to perform. Elvis raised his staff in his hand high and chanted a quick incantation, after which a large Six-pointed Star appeared out of nowhere. A massive figure, which was not inferior to the wyrm ghosts, gradually emerged from the Six-pointed Star Array.

Soon, a huge black beetle which looked like a rhinoceros beetle that had been enlarged countless times waved its scythe-like forelimbs, and emerged from the Six-pointed Star Array. The black beetle had a shovel-like horn on its head, and its body was much larger than a wyrm. Its body was covered in dark golden mageweaths and a spiky armor that had a metallic luster. Its giant mouthpiece and sharp scythe-like forelimbs were absolutely terrifying, and seemed to be able to slice a dragon in half.

The black beetle was the Crypt Lord that lived in the terrifying Endless Abyss, on the same floor as the Abyssal Demon Dragon. In fact, legend had its power was far greater than the Abyssal Demon Dragon’s, and even Legendary powerhouses would not be able to escape unscathed from it.

The Crypt Lord was the demon that Elvis had summoned after entering the Sanctuary-realm. With the power of the Crypt Lord, Elvis had the confidence to challenge real Sanctuary powerhouses despite being a pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouse.

The Crypt Lord was definitely one of Elvis’ powerful trump cards. Initially, Elvis had planned to use the Crypt Lord against the Tower of Dusk after signing a contract with it. However, he already knew now how horrifying a true Sanctuary powerhouse was, and he knew that even a powerful demon like the Crypt Lord was like an insignificant ant in the face of the real Sanctuary powerhouses.

Elvis no longer had the intention to go against the Tower of Dusk, and he just wanted to befriend and suck up to the young president of the Tower of Dusk. There was an obvious opportunity right in front of him, and as long as he performed the task perfectly, he would be able to impress Lin Li.

After the Crypt Lord was summoned, it immediately unfolded its wings under the armor while hovering in the air and making buzzing sounds, blocking the wyrm ghosts for Elvis’ team. The Crypt Lord did not rely only on its armor and scythe-like limbs to survive in the Endless Abyss. Instead, it used an incantation that could make all objects erode.

In the face of several wyrm ghosts, the Crypt Lord rubbed its scythe-like forelimbs forcefully, which sounded like metal being rubbed against metal. However, the wyrm ghosts probably never thought that the Crypt Lord would open its mouth and spit out a hurricane of countless tiny insects, which surged directly towards the wyrm ghosts.

The two wyrm ghosts immediately spat out dragon breath which contained death aura and had the power to corrode the power of all living beings. Creatures spayed by a death dragon’s breath would have their vitality depleted immediately, leaving behind only a lifeless shell. However, the flying insects that came out of the Crypt Lord were the most evil incantation. Since the insects were lifeless, why would they be afraid of the death aura of the dragon breath?

In an instant, the bodies of two wyrms were engulfed by the flying insects, which even began emitting hair-raising sounds of gnawing and chewing. Although the two wyrm ghosts did not have a physical body, the sounds were still incessant. It was an incantation that penetrated one’s soul, and would bring about boundless pain.

However, those were not the only wyrm ghosts, and the Crypt Lord’s hurricane of flying insects could not be released endlessly, otherwise the Crypt Lord would have extinguished all the wyrm ghosts alone. The two wyrm ghosts gnawed by the flying insects could not resist the pain which penetrated their souls, and thus fell into the sea like meteors. The Crypt Lord waved its scythe-like forelimbs, and flapped its wings to move towards the other wyrm ghosts.

Seeing that Elvis had released his trump card, Rojet, Abrad, and the rest decided to follow suit. Rojet took out an ancient-looking amulet that seemed to have been made of an ordinary bone, but it was extremely large, making it look like a shield on his hand. The amulet was known as a Chaos Amulet, which had a chance of making an enemy sink into a state of chaos with a beam of light. The chaos would result in the enemy going berserk and attacking randomly.

The Chaos Amulet might not be useful in a one-on-one battle, but in a battle between armies, it would definitely be a powerful weapon that could disrupt the enemy’s formation and create chaos. It was said that the Chaos Amulet was created by the Titans using the skull of an ancient wyrm. There was a variation of the Titans’ text carved on it, which was actually a primitive mageweath.

After Rojet took out the Chaos Amulet, he immediately activated some of its power, and a ray of gray light darted into a wyrm. The wyrm ghosts that were surging over in groups immediately broke into chaos as a wyrm launched a crazy attack on the companions around it.

However, the wyrm ghosts would only recognize enemies, and no emotions were involved. Hence, when its companion launched an attack on another one, the latter would see it as its enemy. The surrounding wyrm ghosts immediately attacked their enemy, and though chaos erupted immediately, it didn’t cause much of a delay.

After all, when Rojet arrived, they didn’t know what kind of enemy they would encounter, and although the Chaos Amulet was effective, it obviously did not have a great impact on the wyrm ghosts. If their enemy was the Gilded Kingdom’s team, the Chaos Amulet would be of great use. After all, they were humans with emotions, and even if their companions went berserk, they would hesitate to kill. Hence, that would result in chaos, but that wouldn’t happen for the wyrm ghosts.

Of course, that also had a little advantage, and that was a reduction in the number of wyrm ghosts. However, the reduction process was slow, and their team might be wiped out before the wyrm ghosts even got affected significantly.

Abrad of the Caesar Family was holding a strange Skeleton Staff in his hand at this moment. As the light on the Skeleton Staff flickered, a peculiar shape appeared below the feet of each of the people in his team. It looked like a Magic Array, but it wasn’t one that others were familiar with.

The Skeleton Staff in Abrad’s hand was said to be the vertebrae of a Sanctuary-level shaman orc which was an existence known as the sacred bone. It contained the totem power of the orc’s life, and anyone who got the bone would become a Sanctuary-realm shaman, and supplement his companions with totem power.

When exploring Prince Brahere’s mausoleum, the Caesar Family had also used the orcs’ War Totem Pole. Now, as the most senior and authoritative elder of the Caesar Family, Abrad held the orc shaman’s sacred bone. Everyone reckoned that the Caesar Family had to be of the same origin as orcs.

However, being involved with orcs didn’t seem to be a glorious thing for humans. Hence, even Elvis and Rojet were unclear of what relationship the Caesar Family had with the orcs. They only knew that the Caesar Family seemed to have been supported by the orcs after gaining independence from the Mithril Alliance.

Under the totem power of the sacred bone, those in Abrad’s team saw a surge in combat power, though their level remained the same. The Nature Halo allowed them to release their mana continuously, while the Guardian Halo allowed them to defend against the blows of the wyrm ghosts, and the Recovery Halo quickly healed injuries on their bodies. Under their feet, there were at least 10 different kinds of halo which turned them into superhumans that were invulnerable and insusceptible to pain, injuries, and negative magical effects.

[1] This most likely means above low-level Legendary, and not yet Sanctuary.
