Chapter 46

Kerung! Kerung!

A large group of Kobolds galloped toward a location while screaming at the top of their lungs.

“Hey, you bastards!”

An even louder cry sounded from a huge bear-like figure that appeared in front of them. Of course, as one could imagine, the group of Kobolds charged toward that bear-like figure and a huge brawl occurred. The man punched and swung the Kobolds that clung to him with his bare hands.

Crack!

In the man’s hands, the Kobolds were crushed and squeezed as though they were made of clay, while the teeth, claws and spears off the Kobolds dug into the man’s armor and flesh.

It was not long before the battlefield was filled with blood and entrails.

Boom!

Finally, the Skeleton Soldiers that were lying nearby sprung up and charged at the Kobolds. They stabbed and slashed at every Kobold who was still moving.

Puk!

A sword tore through the skin of a Kobold and caused a deep wound.

Keng!

The Kobold’s scream drowned out all other sounds on the battlefield but the other Kobolds could not spare any attention to it.

“Come here you bastards!”

The combination of the bear of a man and the group skeletons completely took away Kim Woo-jin’s need to join the fight.

Boom!

For the Skeleton Soldiers the battle was a breeze as the Kobolds could do nothing to defend against them. It was like they had laid themselves down on the chopping block to be slaughtered.

As Lee Jin-ah held the attention of the group of Kobolds, the Skeleton Soldiers picked them off one by one. Soon, the number of slaughtered Kobolds exceeded 15 and the battle was gradually approaching its end.

Puk!

Kim Woo-jin watched from the sidelines as the massacre progressed in front of him, as this could no longer be considered a fight.

‘He’s not too bad.’

It truly wasn’t bad, but Kim Woo-jin’s eyes were sharp, not missing a single detail.

‘At least he’s talented.’

Honestly, Kim Woo-jin wasn’t very satisfied with Lee Jin-ah’s performance.

‘It’s not as good as I remembered.’

It was because ‘The Immortal’ Lee Jin-ah had survived being targeted by Kim Woo-jin twice, that he’d been recognized by Kim Woo-jin. It was because of this recognition the comparison with his future self and his current start was so disappointing to Kim Woo-jin.

In the future, Lee Jin-ah was very strong, he knew how to use the immortal body granted to him by the legendary skill Blessed by the River Styx, better than anyone. At his previous level, it was said that he had no need to fear death since even Kim Woo-jin wasn’t able to kill him.

“Hey, Skelies! This one’s yours!”

Lee Jin-ah nonchalantly punched the head of a kobold that was biting his leg and threw it toward the group of Skeleton Soldiers.

Woo-jin looked at him and he could see none of the steadfast determination to destroy the Messiah Guild that he once knew.

‘There must be a reason.’

Something had to happen to make him change so drastically.

‘Was it the death of Oh Se-chan that affected you?’

Maybe only the death of Oh Se-chan could change him in such a way. If the Messiah guild killed Oh Se-chan then it was possible that Lee Jin-ah would want to have vengeance.

‘What type of person is Oh Se-chan exactly.”

Kim Woo-jin was incredibly curious about what type of character Oh Se-chan was.

`Let’s not focus on that right now.’

Anyway the important thing right now was to test Lee Jin-ah. That was Kim Woo-jin’s purpose from the start. He was never interested in proving himself to anyone from the start. He had better things to do than spend his time to impress Oh Se-chan and Lee Jin-ah.

What he was really looking for, was whether Lee Jin-ah was good enough to be used and whether he could be trusted.

‘You’ll have to work hard.’

His goal was to make Lee Jin-ah reach and surpass the level he remembered.

[Your level has risen.]

At that moment, a notification sounded in his ear, reminding him that his skeletons were currently annihilating the Kobolds.

But Kim Woo-jin wasn’t interested in the notification, instead he turned and looked into the distance.

Kung!

The scream of a Kobold could be heard in the direction he turned.

Kung! Kung!

Soon a group of Kobolds appeared, running toward where Lee Jin-ah and the skeletons were fighting.

“This is driving me crazy!”

Lee Jin-ah who had just started taking a break yelled loudly in frustration as he saw them. He turned to the group of Skeleton Soldiers.

“Hey don’t you guys wanna go on strike? You’re not fighting for free are you? Does that make sense in this day and age? At least you should get an hourly wage!”

He made a smug face.

“Hey, why don’t you all come work for me? I’ll give you a pretty fair wage and everything. So let’s run away!”

Of course, he got no answer.

Boom!

The skeletons started preparing for battle again as if it was no problem.

“Hey! Guys!”

Then suddenly all the skeletons fell onto the floor together in complete synchronisation.

As he looked at this scene, Lee Jin-ah didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

‘I know your skills, now it’s time to test your endurance.’

Kim Woo-jin’s test was far from over.

[You have cleared the 1st Floor.]

During Lee Jin-ah’s test, they had killed all the Kobolds they needed.

“Finally finished!”

Over the course of two days, Lee Jin-ah and the 9 Skeleton Soldiers had fought and killed more than 1000 Kobolds.

Of course, there were also the ones that Kim Woo-jin killed in the beginning to activate the effect of Ruler of the Battlefield so it couldn’t be said that it was only Lee Jin-ah’s hard work, but he still did most of it.

“Haha! I did it!”

What was even more surprising, was that during the course of the battle, Lee Jin-ah had not shown any weakness even though he had been extremely tired.

“Skelies good job! Now let’s high five! High five!”

As Lee Jin-ah raised his arm and approached the skeletons they all just looked at him like they were looking at a retarded person.

“Damn, I worked so hard as the tank…these heartless bastards.”

As Lee Jin-ah was complaining with a regretful face, Kim Woo-jin appeared before him. Lee Jin-ah’s expression immediately fixed his face but Woo-jin pretended that he didn’t see anything.

Lee Jin-ah held his stomach, fell to the ground and said,

“I can’t take this anymore, you might as well kill me.”

Kim Woo-jin immediately pulled a blade from his inventory. It was a kukri knife with a gleaming blade.

Lee Jin-ah looked like he was about to cry.

“I can’t even make a joke? But still, it is impossible to run forever without rest, otherwise you’ll die. A cow plows fields all day but he’s still allowed to eat and sleep!”

As he listened to the sad plea, Kim Woo-jin just inspected the blade of the kukri without saying a word as if preparing for a slaughter.

Lee Jin-ah sat up immediately.

“I’ve been looking for a partner for so long, but why did I run into this dog bastard.”

Lee Jin-ah felt like Kim Woo-jin wasn’t human because of the way he treated people.

The skeletons soon surrounded him and he once again rose to his feet.

‘Scary bastards.’

These Skeleton Soldiers were the reason Lee Jin-ah battled for so long without much complaint. If they were weak or clumsy, then instead of fighting the Kobolds, Lee Jin-ah would’ve attacked and smashed the skeletons instead. But these Skeleton soldiers weren’t so simple.

It would be better to fight another thousand Kobolds than fight these 9 Skeleton Soldiers.

Of course, there was still Kim Woo-jin behind them.

‘He attracted all those Kobolds without dying or even receiving a single injury.’

Every time Lee Jin-ah and the skeletons defeated a horde of Kobolds, Kim Woo-jin would attract another group over so Lee Jin-ah was constantly fighting.

‘Crazy bastard.’

Honestly, Lee Jin-ah could not even begin to fathom how it was possible. This wasn’t something you could do simply with strength. To do this, the understanding one would need to have of the dungeon environment and the monsters would have to be at a level far exceeding common sense.

‘Isn’t the next floor filled with Black Werewolves? Damn, I’ll probably be ripped to shreds there.’

Lee Jin-ah felt a wave of helplessness as he imagined the struggle he’d have to face on the 2nd Floor.

It was then that Kim Woo-jin spoke to him,

“Good job.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll handle the next floor.”
