Celebration Banquet
Arno didn’t expect his mother to say such a thing in public. Seeing Vivian felt a little distressed, and he
sighed. On one side was the person he liked and on the other side was his mother. No matter how
much he wanted to, he couldn’t speak ill of his mother. All he could do was hug Vivian and wanted to
take her out of that tense situation and explain everything to her.
But Sileas wouldn’t let them go easily. Seeing that her son was going to take Vivian away, Sileas said
with a sullen face: “Ms. Stark is still waiting for you to walk her to her car and you want to walk away
with another lady. Why? When did our family teach you to be so rude to guests? And as for Vivian,
since she came by herself, she can go by herself.”
Their argument was beginning to attract a lot of people’s attention. Amid the celebration banquet,
someone who had seen the argument outside informed everyone of what was going on and soon the
investor and host of the event; Mr. Titus, came out.
He saw how helpless Vivian and Arno who was protecting her and had some guesses. He raised his
eyebrows and said with a smile, “Vivian, do you need any help?”
Vivian turned around and upon seeing Mr. Titus, recognized him. She had seen him sitting with the
director, and she had been told by others that she was the investor who just finished the film.
Vivian didn’t want to get entangled with Sileas and the others so she pushed Arno’s hand away with
anger and walked towards the director. “Let’s go.”
Vivian returned to the big room of the celebration feast with Mr Titus. Mr. Titus first saw how Vivian and
that man were arguing with each other and thought that he better than to directly quarrel with Sileas.
Arno watched Vivian leave. His face was ugly, but the Stark family parents and Wang Vivian were still
there so he held back from going after her.
He saw Vivian returning to the room, and when he could no longer see her anymore, he reluctantly
walked the Stark family parents and Ms. Stark Vivian out.
After watching them get in the car and leave, Arno looked at Sileas. “Mom, you can go home alone. I
have something else to do.”
“What else do you have to do?” Sileas asked, getting suspicious.
Arno scoffed. “Mom, this is my business.”
“You go back with me, don’t think I do not know you want to chase after Vivian.”
“Mom, I’m an adult now, and I have the freedom to make friends.”
“Can you for once not care about who I like or who I’m with?” Arno said impatiently to Sileas. He was
fed up with Sileas’s controlling behaviour.
Sileas was taken aback. She did not expect her son to speak to her like that.
Arno saw that Sileas was still standing stubbornly, and told the driver: “Send my mother back.”
He turned and left.
“Arno, you come back!” Sileas called after her son, but Arno ignored her.
Watching Arno walk away, Sileas got into the car angrily. The driver didn’t even dare to waste a second
before speeding off, for fear of making Sileas unhappy.
Arno left and went to the second floor. He stood in front of the window and watched the car leave with
his mother, and then he let out a sigh of relief.
Sileas couldn’t stay here, or his relationship with Vivian will only get worse. The thought of his mother’s
attitude towards Vivian was beginning to make him go crazy. He couldn’t help wondering why his
mother was so kind to Ms. Stark and so harsh to Vivian.
Meanwhile, Vivian returned to the celebration and found a corner to sit in. Mr. Titus handed her a
tissue. She froze for a moment, then raised her head and smiled,
“Thank you.” Vivian lowered her head and whispered: “I’m sorry this is how we got to meet.”
Tears were falling from her eyes and all the makeup she had just touched up on her face was
beginning to get ruined all over again. Whenever she thought about the future, she always saw Arno in
it. But now he had a blind date and Arnold’s mother was still very satisfied with Ms. Stark.
The more Vivian thought the more she got sad. Mr. Titus wanted to comfort her, but he did not know
how. Heads were already beginning to turn in their direction.
Renita noticed the scene and walked over to Vivian. She smiled at Mr. Titus.
“Vivian just has me here, now. Sorry for the disturbance, Mr. Titus, but you can leave.”
Mr. Titus saw that Vivian’s mood was stable. He stood up and cleared his throat.
“Then you have a good rest, I will leave now,” he said to Vivian after which he left.
After Mr. Titus left, there were only Renita and Vivian in this little corner. Renita sat opposite Vivian and
sought to break the silence between them.
“I heard you met Arno.”
“Am I bad, or something?” Vivian blurted out. “Why doesn’t Arno’s mother like me?”
Renita sighed. Mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law have been enemies since as old as time and it was
so bad that five out of ten mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are in love with each other.
Seeing that Renita had not spoken, Vivian raised her head from her palm only to see an inexplicable
expression on Renita’s face. Did that mean she was indeed unlikeable?
Vivian sniffed and was about to cry again but Renita hurriedly stuffed tissue in Vivian’s hand.
“Vivian, please stop crying. At least wait till we go home.”
Vivian sighed. She was not so emotional but Arno and his mother had brought this part of her to the
fore.
Renita also did not persuade the sensitive Vivian to think about it.
She knew that her persuasion was useless, and the root cause was Arno. She just hoped that Vivian
could hold back her tears till she got home as she was still a public figure.
If she were photographed crying miserably, it would be rumoured, which would then lead to a lot of
controversies and comments. She just hoped that the security of the hotel was in place, and no
paparazzi were waiting for them, otherwise, the whole mess would be difficult to clean up the next day.
