87 Gou Dan
“Alright!”
The two agreed and loaded everything into the cart before carefully driving the donkey cart away.
Su Wen watched them walk away into the early morning mist before yawning and returning to sleep. She had stayed up late last night, mainly to make the cakes. She had to do everything by hand to beat egg white, which was tiring and boring.
She almost fell asleep a few times in the middle of the night, but she held on.
Now, she could finally sleep for a while.
Su Wen slept from the morning until three in the afternoon. As soon as she woke up, she heard the noise outside. She washed his face with the well water and opened the door to see his little sister running home.
“Big sister.” The girl screamed in panic and rushed to Su Wen. She locked the door after she entered.
“What’s wrong?” Su Wen was confused by her.
Little sister’s eyes were red. She leaned against the door and patted her chest. She took a deep breath and waited for her breathing to calm down before she gave Su Wen a nervous and cunning grin.
Su Wen’s eyes fell on her younger sister’s red eyes, and her brows slightly furrowed.
She already understood her little sister very well. This girl was sensitive yet intelligent, fragile yet strong. She was only six years old but already knew how to curry favor and pretend. However, a child was still a child. She was too inexperienced. As long as one was not blind, one could tell something had happened.
“You were bullied, or did you get into trouble?” Su Wen was also once a child. Kids were mostly the same.
Little sister lowered her head and stood in front of Su Wen obediently, stammering, “Big sister, I beat up Gou Dan.”
“Since you have beaten him up, don’t be afraid.”
Su Wen knew Gou Dan. He was the brat her younger sister mentioned the most at home, apart from Niuniu, Zhuangzhuang, and Xiaohua. He was about the same age as her younger sister. Of the three siblings, Gou Dan was the only boy, and he was doted on by his grandparents.
Gou Dan was good friends with Niuniu. Her little sister would be bullied by Niuniu and Gou Dan every time she went out to play. Niuniu and Zhuangzhuang were restricted from leaving the house by Zhang Chunxiang and Chen Guihua. But Gou Dan was still there.
“What happened? Tell me about it,” Su Wen peeked out from the door’s crack and saw a short and chubby old lady in her 60s coming over with a crying little boy.
They were approaching her house. Probably because they saw that the door was closed, the old lady started to curse. Her vulgarities were unpleasant to hear.
Hearing Gou Dan’s grandma’s scolding, little sister Su clenched her fists tightly and lowered her head, not saying a word.
Su Wen gently ruffled her younger sister’s newly grown hair. “It’s fine. Tell me what’s going on. I won’t scold you.”
Little sister Su started complaining, “Big sister, Gou Dan is bad. He snatched my things. I only ate one piece of the malt candy you bought for me daily, but today it was snatched away by Gou Dan. I refused to give it to him, so he beat me up.”
As she spoke, she lifted her clothes and revealed a bruised footprint on her stomach.
Su Wen’s eyes turned red out of anger. “Did Gou Dan kick you? ” At such a young age, it was simply too vicious. A child’s stomach was the softest and did not have much muscle. They would easily suffer internal injuries from the kick.
They might even die if their spleen was broken.
Little sister shook her head. “No, Gou Dan’s grandma kicked me.” As she spoke, she stretched out her tiny arm. There were a few deep nail scratches on her right arm. “Gou Dan scratched these. It was Gou Dan who scratched me first, so I hit him. I hit him, and then Gou Dan’s grandma kicked me. ”
“D*mn it.” Su Wen was even angrier, a hundred thousand times angrier than before. It was a small matter for children to fight, but it was a different story when adults were involved.
