Chapter 1243 - 1243 I Am Not a Dog

1243 I Am Not a Dog

“I found a set of toys which I heard is popular with young kids. They’re all novel items that the Xia family has never seen before. I asked Jia Zhong to send them over, but I heard that Xu Lan quietly got rid of the set after accepting it. The items did not end up in Qiao Mei’s hands,” Huo Gao reported.

He Ning did not get into a bad mood because of this. For something which he had already given away, it was none of his business how the recipient dealt with it. It had nothing to do with him anymore.

“Find a way to let He Mei and Ma San contact each other. Get the two of them to work together to find something for the Xia family to do,” He Ning said nonchalantly, as if he was talking about something as ordinary as going out to buy groceries.

“Qiao Mei always has a companion with her when she goes out recently, so I’m afraid it won’t be easy to make a move on her. However, the Zheng family is in an uproar at the moment. Perhaps we can start with Qian’e,” Huo Gao said.

“From now on, don’t affect Qiao Mei no matter what you do. Even if you want to hurt Qiao Mei or make use of her, you have to ask me first. I need to see if there’s anything in that brain of yours!” He Ning said as he looked at Huo Gao in disdain.

His life was still in Qiao Mei’s hands! Besides, He Ning had yet to be in possession of Qiao Mei and make her cook for him every day. How could he let Qiao Mei be in danger? His plan was to start with Xia Zhe and make the family disintegrate from the inside so that he could be the one to reap the benefits.

Although whatever happened to Qian’e would not have any direct impact on Qiao Mei, she would not sit back and do nothing. After all, if anything happened, she would lose her family’s two teachers. Her younger siblings still needed their teachers around for guidance and it had been so difficult to find someone suitable.

Huo Gao felt very resigned about his fate. Was he He Ning’s secretary or doctor? Why did he have to do so much work but only getting paid one salary? He wanted to apply for a salary increase, otherwise he would go on strike!

Qian’e did not have much contact with her family at the moment. After she settled the matter with Ma San, she focused on working day and night. She worked very hard to earn money and ate very little. After she managed to save some money, she bought a small place to live. It only consisted of one room and she had to share the toilet and kitchen with others.

She was already very satisfied to have her own place. Occasionally, she would send Zhao Ni some money and she spent the rest of her time alone.

Her days were relatively quiet and there was nothing to worry about, but Zheng Peng’s arrival completely disrupted her peaceful life.

She had never thought of marrying Zheng Peng. She just wanted to date him and experience the feeling of being in love. She knew very well that she did not have the right to marry anyone. It was within her expectations that she would be humiliated at the Zheng family’s house. She had already prepared herself, but when she faced the actual situation, she still could not help herself from feeling hurt.

Those sharp words had pierced right through her heart. She did not expect an educated individual to be able to say things that made her feel so powerless and heartbroken. He did not scold her directly, yet he managed to reprimand her with every sentence he said.

“Sigh… Qian’e oh Qian’e, why are you so stupid? Why would you believe in a man for a second time? Isn’t the lesson from the last time enough?” Qian’e mocked herself helplessly.

Qian’e had waited for Zheng Peng to come and look for her, but he was now locked up by the Zheng family. He had no means of communication and could not contact Qian’e at all.

“Let me out! How can you restrict my freedom! I’m a human being, not the Zheng family’s dog! You can’t treat me like this!” Zheng Peng roared.

Zheng Yuan frowned. After hesitating for a while, she said to Zheng Su, “Father, let my elder brother out first. You should let him eat something. If this continues, he’ll starve.”

“Yuan Yuan, it’s not as if you don’t know how stubborn your brother is. Do you want your brother to go and look for that vixen! Just do what we say and go stay in our other house with Zhuang Hua for a while,” Zhang Dai said earnestly.

“Mother, is my elder brother really that stubborn? Why do both of you have an issue with him? All these years, you have been prejudiced against him. He just wants to be with someone he likes. Is there anything wrong with that?” Zheng Yuan said unhappily.

Zheng Peng had always been nice to her. Even though their parents were so biased against him, when they were young, Zheng Peng would still spend a lot of money to buy Zheng Yuan the things she liked.
