Chapter 55 - Two Months Ago; A New Resolve.
Two months ago...
It had only been a month since her grandfather, elder Chen passed away. Chen Yi was still in mourning. She expected her other family members to be in a familiar state but unbeknownst to her, they had already started scheming against her.
Chen Yi's eyes were wide as she stared in terror. "It was not me!"
"Chen Yi, are you still going to deny it? Yang Mi had said she had seen her you deliver the food package with her own eyes." Her aunt, Ye Zhouyan said.
"I had delivered the package but—"
"See husband, I told you that it was her! Do you still think we can keep someone like her in our home? Today, she has conspired to kill Fu Liling. Tomorrow, she will conspire to kill all of us!"
"But I didn't put anything. Uncle, Aunt please trust me!" Chen Yi was panicked. She glanced around in search of a trace of trust or warmth from the people she considered her family.
However, all she found on their faces was coldness.
"Chen Ying..." At last, Chen Yi had called for the cousin she treated no less affectionately than a sister.
"I am sorry cousin..." Chen Ying ducked her head down. It was as if she had wanted to speak up something for Chen Yi but she couldn't because Chen Yi was in the wrong.
Immediately Fu Jianguo supported Chen Ying and wrapped his hands around her. "You do not need to apologize to her." His voice was gentle. However, once he looked at Chen Ying, deep hatred emerged from the depths of his heart. "Someone like her... simply doesn't deserve your apology."
Ever since Elder Chen had passed away, Fu Jianguo's behavior towards Chen Yi had considerably worsened. Chen Yi had observed this change already. But still, things were fully ended between them.
He was still her fiance in the name.
And... they had been in a relationship for so many years.
Could things like this be ended in the blink of an eye?
"Trust me..." She helplessly said. There was a naive expectation in her eyes.
Maybe Fu Jianguo would understand her.
Her eyes stung with tears.
However, she couldn't find a hint of sympathy in the man's eyes. All she saw was disdain.
"Fu Lilling and I have always been best friends. Why would I even try to hurt her?"
"Isn't it obvious? You wanted to get back at Fu Jianguo." Ye Zhouyan said.
"Get back? For what..."
"Chen Yi! Don't try to act like you don't know anything. You must have somehow learned that he was going to annul the engagement that Elder Chen settled to be with Chen Ying. Since you couldn't do anything about that, that's why you targetted his sister!"
"W-What..." Chen Yi was shocked.
She wasn't aware of a single thing they were talking about.
When she glanced at Fu Jianguo in panic, anger appeared in his eyes.
"You disgust me." He said, loud and clear enough for her to understand. "From today onwards, there should be no relationship between the two of us."
With those words, he had ended their engagement.
'It was not her.' But no matter how many times she repeated, no one believed her.
"Chen Yi, do you think we will believe you just because you say so?" Ye Zhoyan said. "Until now we have been tolerating you. But after what you have done, if we don't punish you are we going to explain ourselves to Young Master Fu?"
"Your Aunt is right." Chen Yazhu said. "I can't believe that someone like you is related to us by blood. My brother and sister-in-law had been unable to raise you well. We tried our best to nurture you but what can a farmer do when the seeds are rotten?" Chen Yazhu sneered. "Since you are still my niece, I will not be harsh on you. But from now on you can not continue living in the family manor."
And just like that, in the middle of the night, without any job or credits to support herself, Chen Yi was driven out of her own home.
Once the door had closed on her face that night, her heart had died.
Within her eyes, that used to be soft as melted butter, a murderous intent had formed.
The reality was like a harsh slap across her face, painful yet strong enough to wake her up from her oblivion.
"Fu Jianguo... Chen Yi... Uncle... Aunt, I will get back at you one day."
She formed a resolve in her heart.
She would make them pay a thousand times for what they did.
