Chapter 692 The Demon Formation vs. the Mythic Bi Fang
Ding Hao had long lost his sense of direction. There were dangers all around him, and he had to activate his Divine Senses to the full and be vigilant, or he might be killed any time.
Fortunately, Uncle Tianshu had some wondrous skills. He could always avoid those strange creatures of the Untainted Land, following the trails of Human Clan and Demon Clan masters while moving on with Ding Hao.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of booms suddenly exploded from ahead. A terrible energy wave radiated over like a surging tide.
Countless ferocious birds and demonic beasts were wailing plaintively, scampering over like tides from the distant forest. The earth shook, trees were snapped, and all kinds of fierce beasts raced past Ding Hao and his companions like homeless dogs. They fled without even giving them a glance.
“What’s going on? These fierce beasts seem to be terrified…” Ding Hao was surprised.
A divine golden-furred ape, as large as a hillock, strode over with long steps. It gibbered loudly in terror as it did its best to flee. Countless wild beasts were trampled to death under its feet as it ran away.
“Ah…” Amidst the plaintive and panic-stricken wails, a silver-crested wolf falcon with a wingspan exceeding 20 meters flapped its wings, flying toward the fringes of Bone-burying Forest.
As the flapping sounds of its wings resounded, there were black masses in the sky—all gigantic, panic-stricken birds and fierce beasts. The primitive species at the top of the food chain used to fight one other every day. They were now only several meters apart, dashing away.
As for the ordinary beasts, no one knew how many of them had died as a result of being trampled by another beast.
“What happened?” Evil Moon felt most uneasy, sensing a great imminent danger.
“Hey, don’t you feel that the air’s a little hot and something’s on fire?” Uncle Tianshu halted his steps.
Ding Hao stopped at the top of a giant tree and looked into the distance. Red flames suddenly shot up the sky from the primeval forest. Countless streams of flowing crimson light showered down. Large stretches of the forest and the mountains suddenly started burning, and the formerly green forest had turned into an endless sea of fire.
“What’s going on? Has the Heaven Fire erupted?” Everything in the line of their vision was in flames.
The blood-red flames spread wildly toward Ding Hao and his companions.
The flames were filled with a savage, barbaric aura.
“No, it’s not Heaven Fire… Could it be Demonic Fire?” Ding Hao could sense something strange. There was the faint, extremely horrific aura of a fierce creature that seemed to hail from archean times, with the ability to scorch everything. Even the rocks had burned into green cinders.
If it was just ordinary fire, the Divine Golden-furred Ape and the Silver-crested Wolf Falcon would not have feared it.
Suddenly, without warning, billowing waves of Demon Aura appeared in the distant sky. Like looming dark clouds, they gathered from everywhere, casting a shadow over the boundless sea of fire.
Rumble!
As lightning flashed and thunder crashed, black raindrops fell from the sky.
At first, it was just a drizzle, but in the end, became a torrential downpour. The raging tempest was like black lines connecting the heavens and the earth.
As this bizarre black rain poured down, the madly burning crimson flames slowly began to die down.
“This is Demonic Rain. The top masters of the Demon Clan are casting spells!” The coarse-looking old man, Tianshu, picked his nose, waved at Ding Hao, and said, “Let’s hide quickly. Hahaha, it’s going to be great fun.”
He took out two silver cloaks from the inside lining of his robe, put on one himself, and handed the other to Ding Hao.
After Ding Hao put on the cloak, he suddenly felt his body become transparent. He could even see what was behind him through his arms and body. All the aura on his body had withdrawn and was no longer detectable.
A panic-stricken nine-colored parrot flew over, passing through Tianshu’s body like he were empty air.
“Hehe, this time, even if the War God comes, he won’t be able to detect us. Let’s wait and enjoy the fun. And we may get something out of this too.” Uncle Tianshu was grinning broadly from ear to ear, revealing a mouthful of golden yellow teeth.
Right at this moment…
“Screech—!”
A bird’s shriek, full of savage, murderous malice, tore through the sky.
In the sea of fire, a strange bird the size of a pheasant soared up the sky looming with dark clouds.
The bird looked like a Red-crowned Crane, but had only one leg. Its body was blue with red speckles, its beak white and its crest flaming crimson like blood.
“Haha, Bi Fang! It’s really a Bi Fang. Haha, the Demon Clan wants this Bi Fang dead. No wonder they’re willing to use the Power of the Origin to set up a rain formation. Haha, Little Chap Ding, hide yourself well. We’ll profit from this later.” When Uncle Tianshu saw the strange bird, he grinned from ear to ear.
Bi Fang?
Ding Hao was shocked.
The Bi Fang was one of the 36 divine mythic creatures of the Archean Big Dipper. All the ferocious creatures in the top 10 lived by eating fire. They dwelled in forests and were extremely powerful.
In archean times, the Bi Fang was no less powerful than a God or a Devil. Even these beings had to steer clear from its habitat. It was one of the overlords of antiquity, ruling over several realms. Wherever it went, the flames accompanying it would scorch everything. It was a byword for savage power.
By now, due to changes in the world’s tidal forces, many Archean Divine Beasts had died out as their powers waned. Ding Hao and Tianshu did not expect to see a living Bi Fang with their own eyes today.
This kind of divine creature was too rare, its whole body full of precious assets.
According to legend, the blood of a Bi Fang contained the most horrific fire in the world. One drop of its blood essence could turn one into a Fire God, a master of all fire, with the power to fight Devils. There was a pure blue feather on the back of a Bi Fang called the Precious Feather, which could be used to refine a magic weapon.
“Screech…”
The Bi Fang had gone mad, spewing out endless flames, scorching the dark Demon Aura clouds in the sky.
This terrible and mad screech reverberated around the heaven and earth. Countless ferocious beasts and giant birds in the forest were terrified by this screech and fell limp to the ground. Those a little weaker were killed directly, shattered by the sound wave.
Ding Hao only felt like his ears were hit by two massive hammers, and he saw stars.
“So scary. I heard it from thousands of meters away. Had it been at close range, this bird’s screech would have shattered me dead by now.” Ding Hao was shocked.
It was the first time that he had encountered such a fierce creature.
Wherever the red flames passed, the layers of black Demon Aura clouds in the sky would gradually thin. The pouring rain also evaporated and stopped. The burning flames in the forest below grew more frightfully turbulent.
In the layers of black Demon Aura clouds, one could sense the presence of five or six Demons as majestic as ancient mountains. Occasionally, they would show their scaly claws, which were like the hands of Devils. There was a terrible aura around them, which was definitely at the Sage level. Even their fingernail was like a solitary, 100-meter-tall peak, horrific enough to make a man breathless.
Like divine swords, beams of light would hack down around the Bi Fang from those Demon Aura clouds. The space would distort, and countless bolts of lightning would flicker through the clouds. The violent plasma was like a tempest, enveloping the Bi Fang from everywhere.
“Sinful creature, you’re already in my death formation. Surrender now!” A peerlessly imposing voice penetrated the clouds and quaked the heaven and earth.
Powerful Demon Clan figures had joined forces to subdue this Bi Fang.
These demonic experts were summoning the gales and rain, causing the Demon Aura to surge wildly, forming an impenetrable net.
The Bi Fang was like flowing fire, making fiery trails in the air so fast that they could not be seen, flashing every now and then in the sea of fire. Once these bloody flames sprayed them, these powerful Demons would instantly evaporate into thin air.
It screeched angrily. Sometimes it would seem about to soar out of the area overshadowed by the Demon Aura clouds, but would rebound after hitting an invisible wall.
By now, Ding Hao had noticed an invisible formation around the forest fire, sealing everything in. Even the Bi Fang was trapped—it had turned mad trying to struggle out.
Ding Hao was even more stunned.
The screech just now had been intercepted by the invisible formation, yet it still stunned him so much that he saw stars. If it weren’t for this formation, he would have been seriously injured.
This was simply too horrific.
This wild creature the size of a pheasant was actually so powerful. No wonder they likened this kind of savage bird to a Devil in archean times.
“Haha, young fella, are you scared?” The voice of the coarse-looking old man, Tianshu, reached his ears. “Don’t worry. From the looks of things, there are at least four or five major forces of the Demon Clan working together. Although the Bi Fang is fierce, it’s trapped and can’t hurt us. Let’s sit here quietly and watch the battle. Hehe, when the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman will reap the rewards. Hopefully, the Bi Fang and the Demon Clan masters will kill each another. Hahaha!”
Ding Hao calmed down and realized what he had said was true.
Although it was dangerous here, it was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If he could get a drop of the Bi Fang’s blood essence or its Precious Feather, it would profit him enormously.
“Be careful.” The voices of the Saber Master and the Sword Master resounded in his mind.
These two old eccentrics had agreed to that Ding Hao stay behind and observe, at least for now.
Ding Hao nodded, clasped Evil Moon tightly in his arms, wrapped himself in the strange silver cloak, and chose a concealed spot to watch this thrilling fight from some distance away.
…
Boom!
A giant claw, like a mountain peak, clutched down from the sky. Its three digits were covered with stiff hairs gleaming blackly like steel spears. Lightning twirled around it, as it grabbed at the Bi Fang after pinpointing its location.
“Screech…”
With an angry screech, the Bi Fang opened its beak and spat out a crimson flame.
This flame, which was dozens of meters long, turned into a huge sea of fire in the air, wrapping the giant claw inside. There was a strong burnt odor. Then, someone shrieked in rage and pain from within the Demon Aura clouds. The giant claw, now glowing like black charcoal, slowly withdrew.
Obviously, the powerful Demon Clan figure in the Demon Aura clouds had lost this round of the fight.
