Alexia turned toward Chaim’s office and watched Nathaniel leaving with a phone in his hand. His eyes
fell on her with interest, and Alexia blushed, unsure of whether he heard anything.
Lynn followed Alexia’s gaze and hurried away as soon as she saw Nathaniel, not wanting to get into
trouble or make Alexia’s situation worse.
Nathaniel hesitantly walked into Alexia’s office, giving Lynn a nod as she passed.
“Sister, do I really look so scary? Why did your friend leave as soon as she saw me?”
“Oh, you just misunderstand her.” Alexia felt so guilty that the words tumbled out without a thought.
“Maybe it’s because you’re so good-looking and my friend is shy.”
“Really?” Nathaniel’s smile grew at the thought.
Nathaniel came from a distinguished family and heard a lot of flattery over the years. But no one was
as straightforward as Alexia. Nathaniel wasn’t sure how to respond to such bluntness.
Seeing his troubled expression, Alexia worried she said the wrong thing and tried to explain herself.
“No, no, I was talking nonsense. Mr. Hardy, please don’t mind me.”
After being tortured by the pile of documents all morning, and speaking ill of Chaim with Lynn, Alexia
worried Nathaniel would say something. So, she wanted to change the topic as fast as possible.
Unexpectedly, the more she said, the more wrong she was. Alexia and Nathaniel didn’t know each
other well enough, so her words were too abrupt.
“It’s okay, I know you’re joking.” Nathaniel smiled. “Sister, you don’t need to be so polite. I’ve known
Chaim for so long. You are his wife and my sister.”
“Oh, is that all…”
Alexia breathed a sigh of relief, but her eyes dimmed a little. “I don’t know how long I will remain your
sister …”
“Sister, what are you saying?”
“No, nothing, forget it.” Alexia shook her head.
Her look made Nathaniel’s smile bigger. He glanced at the president’s office before continuing.
“By the way, sister, I heard the company has arranged a welcome party for Chaim today. Will you be
joining in the festivities?”
“Welcome party?” Alexia blinked.
Someone did mention about the party, but it had completely slipped her mind until Nathaniel mentioned
it again.
Even though Chaim had already taken over the company, the original higher-ups would naturally still
arrange a reception to welcome him all the same.
The entire company already knew about it and had been whispering about it in the restrooms and while
eating lunch. Many rumors claimed that Chaim also invited some of his friends to develop connections
for the company.
“I think I’ll have to see how much work I still have to do first…”
Alexia looked at the documents on the desk, and her head pounded. If she didn’t finish her work before
going, she would get stared at all the time when she was at the reception.
Nathaniel seemed to understand the situation and left after bidding her farewell.
After a busy day, Alexia returned home, and she was so tired that she fell asleep, still wearing her
clothes.
It wasn’t long before the bedroom door opened again, and Chaim stepped into the room. He’d been
able to see Alexia sleeping through the light from the street lamp outside the window.
He slowed his pace, and walked to the bedside lightly.
The blankets covering on Alexia were messy, and her clothes crumpled because of her sleeping
position.
She never wore the clothes Aunt Song purchased at Chaim’s request. But with Alexia’s temperament,
that wasn’t surprising. Even if the clothes were of the finest silks, Alexia still wouldn’t feel great in them.
So Chaim had to deal with her wearing her simple clothes.
Chaim looked at her with a little dislike.
“Whoa…” Alexia twitched. Chaim took a subconscious step back, only to see Alexia humming and
turning over.
Maybe it was because she was sleeping in a business suit, but Alexia was so uncomfortable that she
tore the collar of her shirt.
Chaim looked at it in bewilderment.
Before taking another breath, Alexia turned over again and she continued to pull her clothes off in her
sleep, even going as far as taking off her underwear.
The pure white garment just happened to be thrown at his feet. Alexia took in a full breath, turned back
over, and changed her position again, finally seeming to sleep in a relaxed posture.
The heat in his body grew stronger as Chaim breathed and stared down at his wife.
After Alexia took off her underwear, her body finally relaxed completely. She laid there for a while
longer, eyes closed, before getting up to take a bath.
As a result, as soon as she opened her eyes, she screamed when she saw the figure standing there.
“Ah!” Alexia was scared by Chaim, and she almost fell off the bed.
“What are you screaming?” Chaim frowned in displeasure and unbuttoned his shirt fretfully.
“I, I don’t… I’m just unsure why you’re here.”
Alexia breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Chaim’s voice, and looked at him again in confusion.
“Why can’t I be here?”
His expression darkened. “Alexia, you have to remember we are married. Is it because I have seldom
come back in the past few years? And you consider yourself single?”
“No, nothing like that.” Alexia quickly explained. “I Just never know when you’ll be back. How about I
ask Aunt Song to clean up the guest room—”
“Guest room?” Chaim cut Alexia off. “Why should I sleep in the guest room? Am I a guest here?”
“No, I didn’t mean that!” Alexia stood up, looking up at his sullen face, and asked carefully, “Are, are
you going to sleep with me tonight?”
