Chapter 693: Are You Happy Now?
Seeing the fierce look in Wen Yue’s eyes, Xia Ning raised her eyebrows. All beings indeed had its vanquisher. She then turned her head and glanced at Qiao Yu, amazed by how skillfully he had switched the subject and shifted the blame at the same time.
Qiao Yu returned Xia Ning’s glance with a gentle look in his eyes and held her hand under the table. There was a time when she chased him with all she had and that memory had faded from his head. However, he would use the rest of his life to protect and look after her.
Realizing the meaning of Qiao Yu’s gaze, Xia Ning blinked. Come to think of it, she didn’t find the idea of running after someone that unpleasant.
It didn’t matter if he had liked her or not, what was important was what she learned from it.
Just like Mu Zichen said, because of her affection for Qiao Yu, she got rid of her bad habits and lived like a normal person again.
To some extent, she had to thank Qiao Yu for that.
He made it possible for her to understand what love was, although the process was quite painful.
Mu Zichen wanted to explain, but as soon as he moved, he found his ear pinched between Wen Yue’s fingers. He said in a hurry. “Your Majesty, don’t listen to Alex! That never happened!”
Wen Yue gave him a half-smile. “I know too well what kind of person you are! I’m not finished with you yet!”
Mu Zichen looked crestfallen. He was vexed when he saw the man sitting peacefully across the table from him. “All I did was tease your woman a little. Did you have to jump to her aid like that?”
Although, the sight of Qiao Yu looking so fulfilled next to his wife and son seemed so unreal. The old saying was true. A beauty’s tear was all that was needed to bury a hero.
After dinner, they sat down on the sofa to watch TV.
Mu Zichen had had a little too much to drink. He decided to stay here until his head was clear.
Enoch was much more docile these days. He had stopped trying to throw himself into Xia Ning’s arms and right now, he was cuddling up against Qiao Yu, watching the New Year’s Gala with the latter.
The busy day had worn Gao Wanhua out, so Xia Ning let her go to bed and said that she would look after the guests.
Gao Wanhua was glad to find her daughter-in-law so considerate and agreed to her right away.
Xia Ning was cutting some fruit in the kitchen when Wen Yue walked in. Seeing Xia Ning carefully peeling a fruit with her head lowered, Wen Yue frowned. Growing up, she had never seen Xia Ning bothered by such petty things.
Normally, she would have a glass of water handed to her lips, let alone peeling a fruit.
Xia Ning wasn’t known for her patience. The tiniest thing could set her off and they were all somewhat frightened by her.
But now, she couldn’t look gentler. The wonder love would do to a person. It could change them completely.
Sensing that Wen Yue was behind her, Xia Ning said all of a sudden. “What are you doing here? The floor is slippery here. Go watch TV. I’ll be done in a minute.”
“Asteria, are you happy now?” Looking at Xia Ning, Wen Yue whispered.
Xia Ning frowned, then turned around and looked at Wen Yue. “Where did that come from?”
“You finally got the love you’ve wanted, which had put you through so much pain. Do you think you won’t regret what you have now one day?”
Xia Ning smiled. “That’s a tough question. But I don’t think that’s all you want to ask! You made it pretty obvious at the dinner table just then.”
Wen Yue sighed inwardly. Asteria was always this astute. It was impossible to hide things from her.
Her face darkened all of a sudden and she said in a low voice. “Master Jingcheng called me yesterday.”
