Chapter 698: I Love You!
After the other side hung up on her, Xia Ning held her phone tight and there was suddenly a fierce look in her eyes. She then threw the phone back inside the room.
That was a “crack” when the phone hit the floor. It made a jarring noise when it scraped against the floor before the phone stopped moving.
Qiao Yu stood at the door of the guest room. Slowly, he bent over and picked up the phone at his feet with a frown. Seeing the woman burying her head in her arms on the balcony, he went up to her.
“What’s wrong? That was some temper!” Qiao Yu reached Xia Ning, crouched down, and looked at her.
Looking up at the man in front of her, Xia Ning felt so aggrieved.
If he hadn’t rejected her back then, she wouldn’t have to go through what happened next, nor would she be threatened until she agreed to do that thing.
“Why didn’t you tell me you loved me earlier?!” Her cheeks were streaked with tears as she stared at him.
He had no idea the courage she had to summon to make that decision. Yes, it was partly out of her rebellious mentality, but mostly, she had wanted to be with this man.
Qiao Yu had no idea why Xia Ning was so sad. He only knew that she made a phone call before having this breakdown. At the moment, he wasn’t in the mood to find out who she had called. All he wanted was to calm her down.
Leaning over, he pulled her into his arms and comforted her. “I’m sorry. It was all my fault. Please don’t be sad.”
Huddling in Qiao Yu’s arms, Xia Ning burst into tears. Things had already happened and a simple sorry wouldn’t do anything.
Maybe he would never understand how despaired she had been. At that time, she could see no future and there was no turning back.
“Do you love me?” asked Xia Ning suddenly.
Qiao Yu frowned, finding her reaction way too strange today, but he still said, “I love you!”
Love?! Xia Ning shut her eyes slightly, wondering why she asked that question. As it turned out, she was the one lacking a sense of security the most.
Because she had brushed past love once, she wasn’t able to trust love anymore.
Was Qiao Yu to be blamed for that? Of course, he was! But since no one knew about her painful past, she would rather forget about it. It would do both of them good.
Running away wasn’t going to solve the problem anyway. Even if she and Qiao Yu had stayed together back then, who could promise that she wouldn’t be found out?!
Xia Ning had lost count of time when she fell asleep in Qiao Yu’s arms.
Qiao Yu looked down at the woman in his arms, realizing that this wasn’t the first time that she had lost control. He had seen it more than once. Was it because of the mental illness she mentioned earlier?
His eyes dimmed a little. Recalling her interaction with Enoch on a daily basis, he shook his head. No, she was a healthy woman and loved her kid. He could also tell that she loved him and was even willing to believe that she had only found an excuse to reject her.
Laying Xia Ning down on the bed, Qiao Yu sat down next to her and stroked her cheek. He then turned to look at Enoch by her side. The mother and son were fast asleep.
The look on his face was mild. Slowly, his gaze shifted to Xia Ning’s phone on the table. He picked it up and tapped the screen. It required a 6-digit code to unlock. His face darkened a little.
The next morning, Xia Ning woke up with a slight headache. She looked to her sides to find Qiao Yu and Enoch both gone. They had gotten up before she did.
Sitting up in bed, Xia Ning recalled what happened the night before. She remembered Su Jingcheng’s sudden phone call and the things she said in Qiao Yu’s arms. She paled, then looked at her phone on the bedside table.
