Chapter 98: The Former Master of the Zhao Family (1)
Zhao Youlin wondered if she should count herself lucky to have a child who was a glutton. Would this kid open the door to anyone right after being tempted with delicious food?
The more Zhao Youlin thought about it, the more she thought it was possible. She kissed her son intensely. Then, just as Joy was in a daze, she took out the mango cupcakes that she had purposely bought for him.
Joy’s eyes sparkled when he saw the cupcakes. He stared wide-eyed at Zhao Youlin. His cutesy look truly got Zhao Youlin’s heart overflowing with motherly affection.
Zhao Youlin caressed Joy’s head, and she passed the cupcakes to him. She rose up and looked at the old man not far away from them who had been watching them with a gentle gaze. She greeted him. “Grandpa.”
The former master of the Zhao family nodded and smiled faintly. Joy was a little stunned when he heard their conversations. He looked at the former master of the house who had been playing with him for the entire morning, and he gave another look at the cupcakes in his hands.
Joy hesitated for a while. His next move truly caught everyone by surprise. He rushed over to the former master of the Zhao family and handed the cupcakes over to him while saying, “Great-grandpa, do you want to have some?”
The former master of the Zhao family froze. His gaze grew increasingly gentle when he saw Joy’s apparently reluctant yet persistent look. He smiled faintly and said, “I’m old, and I don’t have a sweet tooth. Joy, you can have them.”
Joy turned around and cast a questioning glance at Zhao Youlin. Zhao Youlin smiled and caressed her head. She said, “I’m not eating them either. Joy, you can have them.”
Joy instantly broke into a smile. He hugged the box of cupcakes tightly.
Just then, Uncle Zhao came in from the outside, and he whispered some words to the former master of the Zhao family.
A faint light darted across the former master of the Zhao family’s eyes. He replied to Uncle Zhao in a low voice. After that, Uncle Zhao turned around and walked toward Zhao Youlin and her son. He said politely and respectfully, “Eldest lady, I’ll bring the young master of the third generation to get some food first.”
Zhao Youlin’s heart clutched. She nodded and said to Joy, “Joy, go and eat cupcakes with Uncle Zhao. I’ll come back to you later.”
Joy followed Uncle Zhao and left. Zhao Youlin’s bright expression quickly vanished. She walked over to the former master of the Zhao family and sat down.
The grandfather and granddaughter sat opposite each other. They fell silent for some time as if they did not know how to begin.
When the former master of the Zhao family finally started the conversation, the first question he asked was, “Have you really divorced the kid from the Mu family?”
Zhao Youlin felt like rolling her eyes at him as soon as she heard this. Why must this always be the first question that everyone asks whenever they see her? This was especially so for the Zhao family. Was it truly unbelievable for her to divorce Mu Tingfeng?
“Yes, I have. He cheated on me. I thought that he was dirty. Moreover, I’m talented, I have the looks, and a son who could support me and take care of me until I die. Why should I curry his favor when he’s giving me the cold shoulder? We have different perceptions and can’t get along with each other. So, we divorced.”
The former master of the Zhao family choked. Initially, he did not quite believe the newspapers. After all, he had seen his eldest granddaughter’s obsession over Mu Tingfeng. How could she possibly divorce him just like that?
However, Zhao Youlin did not look like she was joking around. Could it be true that she had finally been enlightened due to a broken heart?
The former master of the Zhao family heaved a sigh when he saw Zhao Youlin’s calm expression that did not appear to be forced. “It’s good that you’ve divorced him.”
Zhao Youlin’s eyebrows twitched. She was a little surprised. Did the person-in-charge who held the power of the Zhao family wished for her to divorce Mu Tingfeng? She thought this man would be just like his second son who was a good-for-nothing and was here to persuade her not to divorce.
