Chapter 389: Comparison (1)
Mu Tingfeng’s eyes flickered with some sort of emotion upon hearing Zhao Youlin’s compromising words.
The two stared into each other for some time before Mu Tingfeng quietly blurted out, “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
Zhao Youlin pursed her lips and watched as Mu Tingfeng’s car slowly drove out of the main entrance of the Zhao family’s residence.
However, unbeknownst to Zhao Youlin, Mu Tingfeng, who was sitting in his car, was not as calm as he appeared to be.
After Zhao Youlin spoke the words, Mu Tingfeng abruptly clenched his hands which he had placed in front of his body.
No one knew how impactful Zhao Youlin’s casual words had been to him.
She had said that there were certain things she did not want to mention to him at that moment. However, in the future, she might tell him. Did this mean that she had slowly opened her heart to him and was willing to share her past with him, allowing him to gradually enter her heart?
As Mu Tingfeng thought of this, a hint of softness unusually appeared on his cold, hard face.
However, soon, he schooled his face. The next moment, his expression was filled with indifference.
“Have someone check on Officer… Zhao. I want to know how she died.”
Xia Zhetao was caught by surprise upon hearing Mu Tingfeng’s words all of a sudden. He even thought he had heard it wrongly. “P-President… Mu, what did you want me to do again?”
Right after Xia Zhetao spoke, he keenly felt the temperature behind him drop significantly. He was so cold that he shivered.
“I hate to repeat myself twice. I said, I want you to investigate how the officer, who shared the same name as Youlin, Officer Zhao, had died. Understand?”
“U-Understand… I will have someone to conduct the investigation as soon as I get back. President, I will give you a reply in three days!”
Xia Zhetao felt his own life had been threatened and so he could not care much less about others. He held his head high and pledged his undying fidelity to Mu Tingfeng. He only wished that Mu Tingfeng could school his deadly gaze that had rested on him.
“Okay.” Mu Tingfeng replied to him faintly. He did not further make things difficult for him.
Xia Zhetao heaved a sigh of relief. At the same time, a trace of suspicion unwittingly sprouted in his heart.
He was able to do things cleverly in certain areas. Of course, he did not think that Mu Tingfeng would ask him to investigate Zhao Youlin’s superficial death in the line of duty.
If the issue had been as simple as that, Mu Tingfeng could have just checked the news on his own. There was no need for him to go through so much trouble and ask Xia Zhetao to conduct an investigation on it.
However, Xia Zhetao only grew increasingly puzzled. Why would his president conduct an investigation on the police officer’s actual death all of a sudden? Could the officer be related to the former Mrs. President who actually shared the same name?
Unbeknownst to Xia Zhetao, the reason Mu Tingfeng had asked him to investigate Zhao Youlin’s death was completely on the spur of the moment and driven by a thought that appeared out of the blue.
Today, Zhao Youlin had taken the initiative to bring up the incident that he had had Nie Yunfan to check on her. As such, Mu Tingfeng suddenly realized something.
The current Zhao Youlin was not the genuine eldest lady of the Zhao family. Another soul was living within her.
If that was the case, where did the soul residing inside Zhao Youlin’s body come from? Or, in other words, how did she die at that time?
Based on the documents that Xia Zhetao had brought to him last time, the documents had clearly stated that Zhao Youlin had died in the line of duty. However, was this really the case?
If so, why had Zhao Youlin been so eager to have someone to investigate her “colleagues” whom she had worked with as soon as she was divorced from him?
All these signs had clearly indicated an issue — there was more than what the officials had let on concerning Zhao Youlin’s death.
Mu Tingfeng was curious about this. Zhao Youlin disliked others conducting an investigation on her.
She was the current eldest lady of the Zhao family and was no longer the deceased police officer. If he had Xia Zhetao to investigate Officer Zhao, this would not trigger Zhao Youlin’s minefield, right?
Mu Tingfeng showed his treachery and cunning side of a businessman as he thought of this unethically.
He was finally able to settle Zhao Youlin’s matter at her end. However, President Mu would not easily spare the person who had pulled his leg at the critical moment.
When he recalled Zhao Youlin’s agitated and angry look in order to conceal her inner fear and trepidation, a spark lit across Mu Tingfeng’s eyes.
In his heart, he thought of teaching the guy, who had simply run his mouth off, a lesson. Otherwise, if that guy kept messing about like this, sooner or later, he would have to suffer the consequences because of his unrestrained mouth!
At the same time, inside the office of a high-end office building which was located on the other side of the city that was far away, Nie Yunfan, who had seized the opportunity to tease his own superior, felt a chill creeping down his spine. He was so cold that he sneezed on the spot.
“Eh, that’s weird. Why do I suddenly feel a bit cold? It’s autumn now, could there be a certain pretty babe thinking about me?”
Han Yichen cast a glance at Nie Yunfan calmly. He snickered in his heart, ‘I’m afraid those pretty babes who had been cheated by you are looking for ways to find you and cut you into pieces.’
The matter that Mu Tingfeng had asked him to conduct an investigation on had ended abruptly. Since then, they shared the common view and had never mentioned it again.
The next day after the decision-making meeting, Zhao Youlin made an appointment with Han Yichen to sign the contract. At this time, the final result of the decision-making meeting had spread throughout Zhao Enterprise.
“Did you hear it? Regarding the decision-making meeting yesterday, it’s said that in the end, we would be using the general manager’s proposal.”
“I’ve heard of it since ages ago. Besides, I also got to know that the directors from the board had preferred Chief Zhao’s proposal.”
“Preferred Chief Zhao’s proposal? Where did you get this information from?”
“Eh, isn’t it so?”
“Of course not. Let me tell you, I just heard from the chief of the disciplinary inspection department, he told his staff that the general manager’s proposal was unanimously approved by all the board of directors. Since it has been approved in unison, why would the directors still prefer Chief Zhao’s proposal?”
“That’s how it is. That’s a bit of a stretch. But, I must say, General Manager is really awesome. She’s been in the company for less than a year, yet she’s able to get the support from so many directors including the chiefs.”
“True. Even though the general manager is a lady, she is many times more capable than the men at work. Although Chief Zhao is equally capable and he also used to further his studies overseas, he lacks experience.”
“That’s right. I heard that Chief Zhao is only one year younger than the general manager. But, judging from their looks… How shall I say? Perhaps, the general manager joins the company earlier and has a broader horizons. I think the general manager is more mature compared to Chief Zhao.”
“That’s right. I feel the same way too. How shall I put it? It’s not that Chief Zhao is incompetent, but judging from his look, he looks like he is highly educated and well-protected and this has instead…”
