It’s related to Craig!

Cedrick and Nico exchanged a glance, both feeling puzzled.

The former stood up, picked up his military jacket from the coat rack, and put it on neatly. “Let’s go and

have a look.”

Just as the two of them reached the lobby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, they coincidentally

bumped into Neville, who was bringing Charles in.

Neville swiftly bowed before Cedrick. “Mr. Jenson, Mr. Charles has informed me about the discovery of

significant and crucial evidence. Hence, I have brought him here.”

Cedrick, without uttering a word, turned on his heel and made his way back to his office. “Come with

me, Charles, he commanded.

Charles wordlessly trailed behind Cedrick, matching his brisk pace as they made their way to the office.

Once inside the office, Charles placed an envelope on Cedrick’s desk.

Cedrick glanced at the envelope. “What’s this?”

“I found it by chance while helping to clean Mrs. Newton’s room last night. It seems to be her farewell

letter.”

Although Charles was listed under Caylie’s name in the family tree, he never referred to her as “Mom”

or even “Mother.” Instead, he always addressed her as “Mrs. Newton,” much like the housekeepers and

butlers did.

His words prompted both Cedrick and Nico, who was standing nearby, to furrow their brows

simultaneously.

Caylie had been injected with a neurochemical agent before Craig gained control over the family. Her

thoughts had been out of her control ever since. How could she have left behind a farewell letter?

Despite his doubts, Cedrick reached out and took the envelope.

He carefully opened it and scanned its contents.

After he had finished reading the letter, his frown deepened, and his expression became increasingl

frosty.

“What does Mrs. Newton’s letter say?” Nico asked.

Cedrick didn’t answer immediately but raised his eyes to look at the calm and composed Charles of

him. “This letter is dated the day before the incident. She said she was tired of this hypocritical w and

that she intended to commit suicide.”

“Suicide?” Nico found it rather hard to believe. “She was already imprisoned by Craig, and her daily

activities were restricted. How could she have obtained poison to commit suicide? It’s absurd.”

Cedrick kept mum and fixed his unwavering gaze on Charles. “When and where did you find this

letter?”

Just as Charles was about to speak, Cedrick interrupted him with a knock on the desk and reminded

him.

The Farewell Letter

“I want a detailed account.”

“Okay.” Charles nodded.

He then began to recount the event. “Following Mrs. Newton’s passing. Jasmine and I have been

assisting Lucas with the funeral arrangements. Last night, around eight or nine o’clock, I went up to

Mrs. Newton’s room and happened to discover this letter tucked inside her pillow.”

“Thinking it might be significant, I brought it to you to have a look,” he added.

Cedrick listened attentively to the man. After a moment of contemplation, he posed a question to him.

“Charles, how do you interpret this situation?”

in

Charles sighed. “As you know, my relationship with Mrs. Newton was not a pleasant one. My presence

the Newton family tree seemed to trigger something within her. She had already lost Jennifer, and ever

since then, she had been battling deep depression.”

He paused for a moment, then presented a completely different perspective, deviating from his

previous

statement,

“In fact, I had concealed something before. She had been struggling with depression, and even before

Craig gained control, she had made several attempts at self-harm. I suspect that Craig wasn’t the one

who administered the drug to her. It was her depression that led him to occasionally confine her, out of

concern for her well-being. I don’t believe he would have harmed his own mother.” Charles confessed.

Nico was taken aback. Standing aside, he silently absorbed the weight of the revelation for a long time.

With a serious expression on his visage, Cedrick cautiously reminded Charles, “Charles, when you first

returned to the country and Gwendolyn took you to visit Jennifer, your account of the situation was

different.

“Yes, at that time I wasn’t fully aware of the exact situation, so I didn’t mention Mrs. Newton’s

depression. But upon finding this farewell letter, I felt it was important to reveal the whole truth.

However, I’ve only done what I deemed necessary by delivering the letter to the Federal Bureau of

Investigation. As for how you handle it, I understand that I have no right to interfere. That said, I’ll take

my leave now, Mr. Jenson.”

Charles respectfully bowed toward Cedrick, who was seated behind the desk, before turning and

exiting

the office.

As soon as Charles left. Nico swiftly made his way toward Cedrick’s desk. “Cedrick, should we

investigate this matter further, or should we opt to suppress the farewell letter and allow Craig’s trial to

proceed smoothly, ultimately ending in a death sentence for him?”

Cedrick’s gaze fell upon the letter resting beside his hand. The handwriting on it appeared faded a

untidy.

“Personal grudges should not interfere with our decisions. This matter shall be handled impartially

accordance with proper procedures,” said Cedrick.

After organizing his thoughts, he instructed, “Inform the judiciary about this new development in the ca

and request a postponement of Craig’s trial. Additionally, arrange for the farewell letter to be examined

by a professional handwriting analyst to verify its authenticity. As for Caylie’s depression, instruct

Neville to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter once again.”

Nico dutifully took the farewell letter from Cedrick, saying, “Understood.”

The Farewell Letter

Meanwhile, Jennifer had been receiving a continuous infusion in the laboratory, and there had been no

major issues with her nerves over the past few days of observation

Apart from experiencing memory confusion and the inability to recall events from the past four years.

Jennifer’s physical condition had largely returned to normal.

After Charles came out of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he received news that Jennifer could be

discharged from the laboratory that day, so he hurried over to see her.

Although she was his half-sister from a different mother, he still felt indebted to her.

As he had lost his position as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, he couldn’t enter the

laboratory and could only wait outside.

Five minutes later, Treyton and Jennifer came out together.

They walked side by side, with half a meter of distance between them.

Although Jennifer was aware that Treyton was her boyfriend, her memories were fragmented, and she

couldn’t recognize him. As a result, she could not bring herself to embrace or hold hands with him for

the time being..

Charles approached Jennifer, taking a few steps closer to her, and offered his comforting words. “You

look good. It seems like you’ve been recovering well.”

Treyton composed himself, concealing the sadness in his eyes, and asked Charles with a solemn tone.

“Could we have a few moments alone to talk?”

Charles thought for a moment, nodded in agreement, then turned to Jennifer. Pointing to a luxury car in

the open parking lot, he instructed her, “Jennifer, wait for me in the car. It’ll just be a moment.”

Jennifer’s eyes were innocent and clear. She nodded and slowly walked toward the open parking lot.

Once she was gone, Treyton spoke in a low and humble tone, something he had never done before.

“Charles, can I take Jennifer to stay with me at my place? I know we’re not engaged yet, and it may not

be the most appropriate situation, but I… want to personally take care of her for a while.”

Recently, Lucas and Jasmine had been fully occupied with the arrangements for Caylie’s funeral,

leaving them with little time to attend to Jennifer, their biological sister.

Thus, this responsibility naturally fell on Charles, granting him the authority to make a decision. “That’s

fine. Given the challenges you and Jennifer have faced, I understand your desire to support her. Living

with you for a while may also aid her in recollecting fragments of her past, Charles replied, showing his

understanding and support.

Treyton was grateful. “Thank you.”

A gentle smile grew on Charles’ lips, which was a rare sight to behold. “No problem, though she is still

the daughter of the Newton family. It would be more appropriate for her to live with you permanently if

you two were engaged. Alas, the final decision lies with the family. I don’t have the authority to

determine Jennifer’s marriage arrangements.”

Treyton’s dim gaze gradually brightened, reflecting a glimmer of hope.

“If you had the authority to decide, how would you handle Jennifer’s marriage arrangements?”
