Gwendolyn did not answer right away. Instead, she turned to look at the man by her side, Cedrick.

Then she saw the gloomy look in his eyes as he resentfully stared at her.

He was ready to submit, but right as he was about to have it, someone interrupted. It was torture.

Realizing that Gwendolyn rejected the person on the other end of the line, Frostine. “I’m not free today.

I’ll be resting at home. Let her stay if she wants to wait, but do serve her snacks and drinks. If she

wants to stay and wait, then let her be.”

“Of course, Ms. Harris.”

“Mm. I have something to do today. I’ll be busy. Don’t disturb me unless it’s something major like the

imminent closing of the company.”

“Understood.”

After ending the call, she moved to pin Cedrick down again. “Hubby, are you satisfied with that?”

Cedrick could not help but curl his lips as joy bloomed in his chest.

Leaning toward Gwendolyn’s ear, he hoarsely whispered, “Yes.”

Gwendolyn bent down to kiss his lips.

It was intimate and sweet as the two spent a rare afternoon together.

From their afternoon nap until evening, the two never left the bed. After the lovemaking, they continued,

teasing each other on the bed. It was as if the two of them were the only ones in the world during that

time.

When the sun was almost gone, Gwendolyn’s phone rang again.

This time, it was not a call from work; it was from Jennifer.

Ever since Jennifer lost her past four years of memories, Treyton brought her back to take good care of

her. It had been a long time since Jennifer called her.

Once the call went through, Jennifer’s gloomy voice traveled out of the speakers. “Gwendolyn, are you

free? Can you meet me for a while?”

Gwendolyn could hear that something was off about Jennifer. “What’s the matter, Jennifer? Are you in

a bad mood?”

Jennifer did not answer her.

“Was Treyton mean to you? Tell me what happened, and I’ll teach him a lesson for you.”

“I…” Jennifer hesitated for a long time before saying, “I sneaked out of the villa. I don’t want to go back

to Mr. Treyton’s house nor the Newton residence.”

Losing four years of memory meant that Jennifer barely knew anything about society.

“So you ran away from home?” Gwendolyn sighed. “Where are you? I’ll come and pick you up.

At that, Jennifer started observing the buildings around her. Salinsburgh was not a familiar place to her

Even after a while, Gwendolyn failed to find out where Jennifer had gone to. In the end, she had to

teach Jennifer how to send her location to her on WhatsApp.

Before leaving the house, Gwendolyn hastily changed her clothes as she said, “Ceddy, I think Jennifer

had a fight with Treyton. She sounds upset, so I’m going to find out what happened. I’ll be back as

quickly as I can.”

Cedrick was calm as he nodded in understanding and responded, “Sure. Stay safe, Darling.”

Once Gwendolyn was gone, Cedrick immediately called Treyton and grimly asked, “What happened

between you and Jennifer? I can’t believe you gave her the opportunity to run away from home. You’re

making my Gwenny rush over to keep her company.”

“Jennifer ran away from home?”

Treyton was dumbfounded. He was still at work, and he could not wrap his head around why that just

happened.

Without ending the call with Cedrick, he took out his other phone to call the bodyguard at the villa. It

was then he found out that Jennifer was indeed not in the villa, having snuck out at one point.

Panic surged in his veins, and he no longer had the heart to keep working.

“Why did this happen? I’ve been nice to her, and I haven’t fought with her.”

The two men proceeded to converse for a while.

Gwendolyn drove to the remote area. It was dark, so she had to use a torch to find Jennifer, who was

beside a rock.

Walking over, Gwendolyn crouched before Jennifer and gently asked, “Jennifer, why are you here?

What‘ happened? Tell me, and I’ll help you out.”

Jennifer hung her head, seemingly tired and dispirited. “Mr. Treyton has been strict with me lately

because I wanted to go to grad school. He’s making me do revisions every single night, but my basic

skills are weak, so I keep making mistakes. I feel like I can’t do anything right, and it’s really getting me

down. Say, Gwendolyn, what should I do?”

Gwendolyn was silent.

No pain, no gain. Treyton was so strict with her because he had high hopes for her.

However, as Jennifer’s friend from the same orphanage, Gwendolyn knew that Jennifer had a weak

educational foundation. Moreover, Jennifer’s mind was of a twenty–one–year–old. She would be more

prone to bouts of self–doubt.

In other words, Treyton was too tough on her.

Patting Jennifer’s hand, Gwendolyn consoled, “But that doesn’t mean you should run away from home

like this. How anxious do you think Treyton will be if he doesn’t find you at home as he usually does?”

Jennifer weakly muttered, “This… doesn’t count as running away from home, does it? I’m only engaged

to him. Staying at his place doesn’t mean that his house is mine. Also, I want some time alone. I

haven’t been able to memorize the chapters for the day, and I’m sure Mr. Treyton will be disappointed

when he comes back and quiz me on them.”

Furthermore, he would hit her on her palm as if she was a child if she made mistakes. Even though he

was only using his hand to hit her, it was still punishment, and there was no way she would not be

afraid of it.

As Gwendolyn tucked the stray strands of her hair behind her ear, she said, “It’s all dark outside. Aren’t

you afraid of meeting bad people by sneaking out here alone?”

Jennifer turned to Gwendolyn in confusion. “Aren’t you right beside me? I’m not alone.”

That rendered Gwendolyn speechless.

Jennifer dropped her head again before apologizing, “I’m sorry. I thought I could still come to you

whenever I’m sad, like how I did when we were in the orphanage. I’ve forgotten that you now have

children and a husband. Sorry for disturbing you.”

Gwendolyn gave her a dismissive smile. “You’re not. I wasn’t doing anything at home anyway, so I

might as well come and keep you company.”

Then, she ruffled Jennifer’s hair. Jennifer was supposed to be a year older than her, but her loss of

memories made her seem much younger and more naive than Gwendolyn.

“Jennifer, what do you want to do? I’ll come with you. I’ll keep you company until you’re happy and until

you want to go back.”

At that, light entered Jennifer’s eyes, and she happily waved her phone. “I’ve recently found a

wonderful game! Why don’t we form a party and play together for a little while?”

What?

Gwendolyn was never one to play video games. Even though she had heard about the game Jennifer

was keen on before and knew that the e–sports industry was booming, she never once thought of

investing in it.

Spotting the baffled look in Gwendolyn’s eyes, Jennifer tapped her screen and clicked on the

application to show it to her.

“It’s simple. Gwendolyn, download it too. I’ll teach you how to play. You’re great at picking up any skill,

so I’m sure you’ll know how this works in no time.”

Wanting Jennifer to be happy, Gwendolyn took out her phone and downloaded the game from her app

store.

Twenty minutes later, Gwendolyn was starting to get more and more interested in it as victory

announcements came out of her phone speakers.

“This is kind of interesting. Come, come, let’s try again.“”

She then–picked a character to cooperate with Jennifer’s character. For her first try, she picked a mid–

lane character who looked nice.

Sitting on a boulder, the two of them started the passionate round under the dim moon.

Soon, they were so immersed in the round that time no longer mattered to them.

By the time Cedrick and Treyton arrived at their spot, they saw the two young women who could uglav

their eyes off their screens.

“Do it, Jennifer! Don’t chicken out! He’s about to die, so don’t let him heal himself!”

“I’m in the bottom lane. How am I supposed to get there in time? Also, I’m a marksman. I need to det

de finishing blows!”

“Hey! Jennifer, come over and join the group fight. Stop dealing with the finishing blows. You don’t need

those extra coins!”

“No, wait! It’s still money, no matter how little it is. Those coins are important! I need to farm first Wait

for me to carry you all!”

“Ah! Gwendolyn, save me! This guy stabbed me!”

From afar, the two men could hear the two women’s excited voices.

Cedrick and Treyton shared a look as their expressions darkened. They were speechless.
