During the first time Liberty wheeled Duncan out for some fresh air downstairs, Duncan realized that
the people, who went in and out of the hospital, paid no mind that Duncan could not walk.
No one gave him looks of sympathy.
Death was frequent in the hospital.
Wheelchair-bound was nothing compared to death.
“Over here, Liberty.” With Liberty approaching, Mrs. Lewis stopped and beckoned at her.
Duncan tensed his facial muscles as if the world owed him.
While Liberty was talking with George, Duncan overheard that George was Liberty’s ex-husband’s
brother-in-law.
He had a problem with it.
The Browns were everywhere.
Liberty either always ran into the Brown family, or the Browns would pester Liberty at All You Can Eat.
The divorce was more than six months ago.
What more did the Browns want? Did they think that Liberty would be unwanted after Hank? The
Brown family sure thought Hank was all that.
Liberty’s previous weight never bothered Duncan, but he did think that Liberty should lose some weight
as obesity could cause many health issues.
This was the reason Duncan was a busybody and requested Liberty to run around the office building
when the latter was working for Lewis & Co.
His intention behind the request was to help Liberty strive for a healthier lifestyle.
It was not that he held Liberty’s weight against her.
It did not make a difference to Duncan now that Liberty had slimmed down in size.
He had no idea when he developed feelings for Liberty.
All he knew was that her size did not matter to him.
° Liberty drew close.
“Why did your ex-husband’s brother-in-law want to talk to you?” Duncan pressed his lips together in a
scowl.
He did not initiate the question with Liberty.
Mrs. Lewis was the one asking.
“Something bad happened to the Brown family.” Liberty added, “Jessica stabbed Hank and his sister.
Hank is gravely injured and still in the emergency room.
It’s not that bad with Chelsea.
She has been transferred into the in-patient unit.” Duncan furrowed his brows.
Mrs. Lewis knew about the Brown family mainly because it involved Liberty and Sonny.
She had run a background check on Liberty and the Brown family.
She was shocked and surprised.
“I thought Hank was good to Jessica.
Why did Jessica try to stab him to death? I wouldn’t be surprised if she lethally stabbed Chelsea.
Any sister-in-law of Chelsea would want to stab her.” Liberty replied, “I don’t know why the couple has
turned against each other.
Maybe Hank abused her during a fight.
He has a history of domestic violence.” Hank had once laid his hands on Liberty.
Liberty retaliated and chased Hank down a few blocks with a knife.
It scared Hank from ever touching her again.
“Mr. Repton rushed to the hospital the moment he got a phone call.
He’s unaware of what has caused this.” Mrs. Lewis looked at her son before telling Liberty, “You and
Hank are divorced, but he’s still Sonny’s father.
Do you want to see how Hank is doing?” Although Liberty wanted to check on her ex-husband, she
wanted to let Mrs. Lewis and her son know beforehand.
