Chapter 127: The Bet

Han Jin pushed open the door of the room, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. The candle inside the room was blown out already. No matter how many battles Sunier had gone through, she was still a girl, and any girl would feel embarrassed after shedding so many tears.
Of course, Moxinke would not know what Sunier was thinking. Seeing that Han Jin came out alone, he let out a sigh of relief, though he had already prepared to flee. If Han Jin decided to fight him, they would at most have a brawl, and Moxinke was never one to say no to a good brawl. However, he was afraid of Sunier. An arrow shot by a high-grade ranger was never something he could ignore.
“Moxinke, you seem to have a lot of guts lately! You even used me to make a bet with Sunier?” Han Jin glared at Moxinke and said in an unkind tone. He was really angry with Moxinke. After all, the man had interrupted the harmonious talk he was having with Sunier with a single shout.
Seeing the irritation on Han Jin’s face, Moxinke showed a cheeky smile. “It was just a joke. You don’t mind, right?”
“Of course not!” Han Jin said. His expression said he didn’t care, but his tone indicated otherwise. “Of course I don’t, but most women are vengeful.”
Moxinke’s face turned slightly pale, but he still trusted his luck. “Sunier is no ordinary woman. What a great, holy and pure elf she is! She wouldn’t care about such trifle, would she?”
“Don’t you think it’s too late to flatter her now?” Han Jin was speechless. Moxinke’s compliments were no better than satire, which was so hypocritical that it nearly felt nauseating.
“I’m telling the truth!” Moxinke pretended to be calm. “Don’t you agree with me, Raphael?”
“I don’t want to talk with you anymore,” Han Jin said in a careless tone. He would not leave any faulty wording for Moxinke this time. “What did you say? Something about staying inside the room for the whole night?”
Moxinke’s face turned pale instantly. He knew he should have never shouted out like that, and had intended to gloss over that incident. However, Han Jin mentioned it again intentionally. What a vicious man!
“Moxinke, I’d better stay away from you for a few days. I don’t want to receive any friendly fire,” Han Jin continued.
“But…” When Moxinke was about to say something, the sound of a bowstring being pulled came from inside the room. It sounded especially stern and icy in the silence of the night. Moxinke felt his heart turn cold.
Sunier’s lips were curled into an innocent smile, while the bow in her hands was still quivering. Suddenly, she thought of something strange. Since when did she start enjoying playing jokes on others with Han Jin? She would have never done this in the past. Regardless though, she enjoyed the feeling. Sunier smiled.
A smile also crept onto Han Jin’s face when he heard the sound from the room. He felt relieved. Since Sunier was in the mood to play along with his joke, it meant that she had calmed down a lot.
“Cessacioun, what did you two bet on again?” Han Jin asked abruptly because he saw that Cessacioun was trying his best to sneak out of the courtyard.
Cessacioun immediately stopped. He turned around and hollowly laughed, “Just some trivial matters.”
“Trivial matters?” Before Han Jin could ask more, Moxinke had widened his eyes.
“Since they are trivial, why don’t we forget about the bet?”
“No.” Cessacioun was really annoyed, but when he remembered that Han Jin was beside him, he softened his tone immediately, “A man shouldn’t admit defeat for a bet. How can you chicken out?”
“I didn’t.” Moxinke smiled, which looked extremely sinister to Cessacioun.
“Since we are all here, you can truthfully announce our bet. This way, I have no chance to break my word.” Moxinke pretended to accidentally glance at Sunier’s room, then raised his voice, “Anyway, I am not the one who put it forward. I have nothing to be afraid of.”
“You…” Cessacioun was speechless. He hadn’t expected that Moxinke would play tricks on him. Who said this guy had more brawn than brain?!
Noticing the tangled expression on Cessacioun’s face, Moxinke became even more confident. It was a common flaw of humans to forget their own suffering when witnessing someone in an even worse situation.
Moxinke stood there proudly, confident that Cessacioun wouldn’t dare say the content of their bet out loud. Cessacioun was greatly annoyed with that smug expression on his face and finally steeled his heart. At most, we both go down! he thought to himself.
With an expression of a hero going into a desperate battle, he cleared his throat. “I said that you would not come out within two hours, but Moxinke disagreed. Therefore, we made a bet.”
Hearing this, Han Jin felt relieved. If they just bet on this, there was nothing to be worried about. However, Cessacioun’s expression clearly indicated that there was more to the story. “And then?” Han Jin asked.
“Since you didn’t come out two hours later, Moxinke lost. However, he didn’t want to admit it. He bet one more hour on you.”
Moxinke instantly realized that the situation was turning against him and hurriedly interrupted, “That’s enough, Cessacioun. I admit defeat. Shouldn’t we go back now? Let’s not disturb Sunier.”
But Cessacioun just threw him a disdainful glance. “Ha. Now you admit defeat?” he thought. “If I’m going down, you are going down with me!”
“Then I gave him another chance. I bet that you wouldn’t come out even after another hour, and I was won. You didn’t come out. However, this guy here seemed to have lost his mind. He suggested we keep going with the bet.”
“Could you please shut up? I’ll pay you double the amount! Is that enough?” Moxinke was practically begging and looked like he was about to rush over and clamp Cessacioun’s mouth closed.
But Reg suddenly emerged next to Moxinke and grasped his arm. “Moxinke, can you act like a man? You are the one that asked Cessacioun to speak out! Why are you stopping him now?” The expression on his face indicated that he simply wanted more chaos for viewing pleasures.
Moxinke almost fainted from anxiety. He never thought Reg would be so meddlesome! This guy must have been lurking about for quite some time.
Cessacioun opened his mouth again, but Moxinke could not stop him. He closed his eyes painfully and accepted his doom.
Cessacioun had clearly made up his mind about bringing Moxinke down with him. “And then Moxinke said that you two would not spend the night together in that room, because Sunier is an elf, and… Ahem, she wouldn’t choose a random place for her first night. You two would at most…”
Swoosh! An arrow pierced through the window and stopped Cessacioun’s words in his throat.
Facts proved that magicians could react quickly at times too. Cessacioun cast a magic shield for himself instantly, then sprinted out of the courtyard.
The room turned quiet and it was as if the one in the room was still considering who should be their next target. Cessacioun had already approached the courtyard door, while Moxinke was still standing there in a trance.
Soon, she made up her mind. The second arrow was shot toward Moxinke’s face directly. His eyes opened wide when he felt the piercing cold wind brought by the arrow, and his neck shrunk instinctively. The sharp arrow passed through the space right above his head. Moxinke felt a chill on his back. Sunier must have really gotten mad.
Reg immediately released Moxinke and escaped to a safe corner. Han Jin was also there. The two of them looked like they were enjoying a great drama.
While he was still considering whether to run away or to do something else, more arrows shot out from inside the room, all streaking toward Moxinke in tricky angles. Sunier seemed to have made up her mind about teaching Moxinke a lesson.
Moxinke let out a roar and gathered the strength of fighting around his body. He ran toward the nearest courtyard wall directly, knowing that it was impossible for him to escape through the door. Anyway, he didn’t want to become crippled or a hedgehog.
Sunier must have been withholding her full strength. The arrows lost their force when they collided with Moxinke’s strength of fighting. Even so, Moxinke dared not lower his guard. He rushed to the wall as fast as he could and jumped high up into the air.
When his hands got a grasp on the top of the wall, he let out a sigh. He would be safe as long as he climbed over the wall. No matter how superb Sunier’s shooting was, her arrows couldn’t curve over.
However, it seemed that he celebrated too early. A wooden giant suddenly appeared on the wall. Though it didn’t launch any attack, it was like a great blow to Moxinke. For him, the originally short wall immediately turned into an unclimbable mountain.
Time seemed to stop in the eyes of Moxinke as he stared at the wooden giant dully. All kinds of feelings were gushing up in his heart. Damn you, Raphael, how could you do this to me?!
He was too flustered to notice how much he looked like a target, with his whole body pressed against the wall.
Sunier’s room was still in darkness. They couldn’t see her from outside. Even though they couldn’t see her, the sound of her bowstring kept coming from inside along with one after another arrow, all of which were targeted at Moxinke with lightning speed.
Though Sunier was really angry, she knew what to do and what to avoid. The arrows pierced through Moxinke’s clothing and stuck deep into the wall, but none hurt him.
However, Moxinke still shuddered in horror when he felt the edges of the icy arrows press against his skin. He screamed and jumped up like a rabbit. After a sound of tearing, countless holes appeared in both his clothes and trousers, but Moxinke had no time to think about this. He dodged the wooden giant and climbed over the wall from the other direction.
Cessacioun shivered in the distance when he heard Moxinke’s scream. He walked even faster and felt that it was a wise choice to run away first.
Reg stared at the wooden giant on the wall and the shreds of cloth floating in the air with his eyes wide open. He wanted to say something but found himself speechless.
Han Jin smiled and said in a low voice, “Staying angry is bad for one’s health. She should have a way to vent her anger, right?”
