Chapter 218: Battle to the Death

“Do you enjoy fighting so desperately?” Caroline smiled viciously. “Wish granted!” Unlike Betty, who excelled in magic, Caroline specialized in close-quarter combat. They also represented the two racial talents of vampires: Betty possessed a powerful and mysterious psychic force that allowed her to effectively wield magic, while Caroline possessed unparalleled healing abilities that made her unafraid of any clashes. Even if she faced an eleventh-grade professional, as long as she could last, she would eventually emerge victorious.

“I have other wishes too, will you grant those as well?” Han Jin smiled.

Caroline didn’t bother to respond to Han Jin’s provocation. She gradually loosened her clenched fist, and a sound like bellows in a forge echoed across the hollow. It was Caroline’s difficult breathing. Her face twisted as if she was suffering great pain, and soon, rows of sharp bones spike grew out of her hands, arms, and even back. Under the shining sun, the tip of the spikes emitted a chilling and ghastly blue light.

“Are you constipated?” Han Jin laughed. With his hands behind his back, he appeared almost casual and oblivious to Caroline’s transformation, almost as if he was giving her time to prepare herself.

The next moment, however, Han Jin shot out like a lightning bolt. He waved his right hand, and a green radiance shot into the air, then dove toward Caroline, along with another red radiance. Meanwhile, the whip in Han Jin’s left hand whisked across the air and flew toward Caroline’s throat like a striking viper.

Usually, Han Jin was a mild and calm young man, always with a harmless smile on his face. However, whenever he came under threat, he would become extremely aggressive. Even though his attempt to deceive his enemy still appeared comically childish, this was still one of his natures.

Caroline moved as well. Her speed had reached a new extreme and even surpassed the whip in Han Jin’s hand. In a blur, she dodged out of the range of the whip, and in another, she approached Han Jin’s side and horizontally swept her sharp claw toward Han Jin’s neck.

An ordinary person would try his best to dodge or block Caroline’s attack, but Han Jin had his own style of fighting. Beside, he also realized that his enemy was far more powerful than he had expected, which was why he had chosen to suffer an injury to try to severely wound one of them. That way, he and Edwina could then focus on the other later.

Han Jin lifted his shoulder and met Caroline without a trace of fear. Just then, Betty suddenly screamed, “Watch his fire!”

Han Jin was greatly surprised, but at this point, there was nowhere else for him to go. Caroline’s claw had struck his shoulder. Suffering great pain, Han Jin turned to shake off the force of the blow, while his right hand reached for Caroline’s shoulder. At the same time, a golden ball of flame formed in his palm.

Caroline had heard Betty’s warning. Her body elegantly shifted a little to the side, then backhandedly punched Han Jin’s left rib.

Han Jin spat out another mouthful of blood and fell back due to Caroline’s force. That was the only way for him to minimize the impact. Even under the influence of Spirit Possession, he could not bear her consecutive heavy strikes.

“His sword!” Betty warned again.

Two flying swords left a bright trail in the air as both shot toward their target. Caroline’s speed suddenly increased, and she reached Han Jin before the flying swords, again punching his chest with a booming force.

Han Jin could feel his blood boiling, and his speed, strength, and reaction speed were all affected. He reluctantly raised his right hand to meet Caroline’s fist, but he couldn’t defend against the series of heavy blows.

With a dull humph, Han Jin flew back. Caroline showed no intention of sparing him, however, and followed him like a shadow, slamming her fist into Han Jin’s chest again and again.

“Fire!!” Betty screamed.

Caroline abruptly drew back her fist, and Han Jin’s palm again missed. The gold Three True Flame quietly burned in his hand, but it could not cause any damage.

Caroline’s body paused for a moment. Then, with a jump kick, she split the ball of flame in two and struck Han Jin squarely in his stomach. Han Jin again flew back, and somehow broke a tree as wide as a person before slamming back onto the ground, spraying mud and snow everywhere.

A pure white curtain of light suddenly rose, and Han Jin slowly climbed up from it. Though the blood he had spewed had dyed half of his body red, his eyes were still as clear as ever.

Caroline was not afraid of Han Jin’s Pure Light Charm at all and continued her advance step by step. Han Jin coldly stared at Caroline while simultaneously trying to figure out why Edwina hadn’t attacked yet? Maybe… because he had chosen the wrong target! An archer’s most lethal strike was her first; before her enemy discovered them. Edwina didn’t want to waste that chance, so she had been waiting all this time.

Han Jin swung his whip as if he were going to attack Caroline, but his body suddenly disappeared into the ground, then rose beside where Betty stood.

Unfortunately, as soon as Han Jin swung his whip, Betty had levitated into the air. She pressed her left hand down, and a ball of blood red light slammed toward the empty ground. She then pushed her hand forward, and another ball of red light streaked toward the snow covered hill.

Han Jin appeared out of the ground and saw nothing but a world of blood. Immediately after, he slammed head first into the ground as if someone had struck him in the face.

With a boom, Betty’s second ball of blood exploded, turned into countless blood rain drops, then swept across all directions, accompanied by a torrent of elemental energy.

“Haha… there’s another little guy up there.” Betty let out a crisp laugh.

Han Jin didn’t give his enemy any time to prepare, and Caroline didn’t give Han Jin any time to recover either. Her body suddenly shot into the sky in a long arch, landing toward Han Jin. No matter how twisted Caroline’s expression looked, her glide in the air still looked extremely elegant.

Han Jin and Edwina had both made a critical mistake. If she had been close enough to clearly observe the battle and hear Betty’s warning, she wouldn’t have made Betty her target. In reality, Han Jin and Edwina did have a chance, and that was if they had focused all of their power to kill Betty before she started using her talent. Unfortunately, they had missed the chance.

Seeing that her attack had missed, Edwina decided to stop hiding. Like a butterfly moving through flowers, she pulled her bow again and again, launching one arrow after another arrow.

Now that Edwina was no longer trying to ambush, her shots reached an extreme speed. Before her first arrow reached its target, the ninth had already been shot. On top of that, she used only magic arrows, and the nine arrows streaked across the air like a pillar of rainbows, with one end at the top of the hill, and the other end in the hollow. The nine arrows had locked all of Betty’s available space.

Betty showed no fear and waved at Caroline in the distance. Edwina felt her vision blur, and when she could see clearly again, Caroline had abruptly appeared in Betty’s place. Meanwhile, Betty had appeared above Han Jin and had clawed at his chest. Even though she excelled more in magic, she still possessed impressive physical combat abilities – just not on the same level as Caroline.

Caroline slightly frowned. This was why she always disliked fighting with Betty. Back when they were facing Guevara, Betty had used the same trick to dodge Guevara’s attack, which in turn had put Caroline in danger. That was also when their conflict had started. After all, there was no limit to Betty’s magical talent, yet she chose Caroline when she could choose any random soldier, which clearly demonstrated her malice. As soon as they had subdued Guevara, Caroline’s first thought was to murder Betty, but Zaganide had been even angrier and slapped Betty in front of their kins. Before, they were equals, but after that incident, Zaganide had made her the First Lady, giving her complete control of the vampires. In the end, it was not a complete disaster for her.

But at this point, Caroline didn’t have any time to think. Her eyes had become completely red, and the spikes on her arms and hands were also shaking. With a sharp scream, she met the first arrow with her fist.

Han Jin, who was still on the ground, suddenly sunk down again. Betty sinisterly smiled as another ball of blood gathered in her hand. However, she didn’t shoot immediately, as if she were waiting for something.

Han Jin had noticed Betty’s special power, and only rose out of the ground after a moment. But as soon as he showed his head, he was covered in a curtain of blood and involuntarily flew back ten meters. He heavily slammed into the ground and only steadied himself after several rolls.

This time, Han Jin climbed up much slower. Even with the protection of Spirit Possession, there was still a limit to his physical tenacity. He had already lost count of how many blows he had suffered since the battle had begun. Even though he had cast multiple Charms of Spirit Refreshment on himself, he still felt pain in every bone as if his muscles were melting.

Boom… Boom… sound of explosions came in the air. With nowhere to dodge, Caroline was forced to meet the string of arrows Edwina had shot out. Even though she could react fast enough, it was only enough to catch the arrow itself. The ensuing elemental explosion would cause her some harm every time.

Han Jin took in a deep breath. “One.. rock…”

Betty was still scornfully smiling at Han Jin.

“Splashes…”

Betty was still smiling.

“A thousand…” The hovering green radiance had returned to Han Jin’s hand, while the red one was still steadily floating in the air.

As soon as Han Jin said ‘thousand’, fear suddenly appeared on Betty’s face. With a sharp scream, one after another vine made from blood grew out of her body and covered herself.

Han Jin finally understood. He had remained steady throughout his sentence, and if Betty didn’t react at all, he would unleash his master’s signature technique in exactly one second! Betty’s power allowed her to predict danger one second into the future!

Han Jin coldly stared at Betty as he searched his memory. He remembered when Betty had suddenly glanced at his whip. Not once, but twice! He had enough evidence to believe that he was right!

However, he already uttered the mantra, and there was no way to stop it. When Caroline had caught all of Edwina’s arrows, Han Jin immediately unleashed the sword technique, “Wave…”

A pillar of light shot into the sky and hit the red radiance in the air. With a deafening explosion, countless shadow swords rained down everywhere, row after row, wave after wave. Shadow swords covered everything within a hundred meters. Trees, grass, shrubs, and everything else, fell and even shattered. When the swords fell onto the ground, they would bring about a flurry of dirt and mud.
