Chapter 2533Chapter 2533 Alliance
They couldn't help but be wary when Hefe tried to get close to them by revealing such information.
Sensing the growing hostility among Jared and his companions, Hefe frantically explained, “I couldn't
afford to buy medicine. I overheard everything when I was trying to steal them from Vibrant Health
Clinic. I'm sharing this because I'm looking to form an alliance with you guys. The mystical herb grows
deep in the mountains and is likely protected by spirit beasts. Without a doubt, obtaining it is going to
be extremely risky. I'm alone in the group. I don't have anyone to help me if I'm in danger.”
Although Hefe's explanation made sense, Jared remained unconvinced and probed further, “Why did
you choose to ally with us? We're not the strongest ones here.”
Within the traveling party, Jared and his companions were the least conspicuous. Two men and a
woman alongside a child didn't exactly inspire confidence. If one were looking to form an alliance, one
would naturally do so with the strongest in the party.
Hefe let out a wry chuckle. “That's because you're the safest choice. I know that you come from Rock
Village and hold a grudge against Cyan Village. I don't deny wanting to form an alliance with the
strongest group, but would they even accept me? In fact, they might even sell me out to Cyan Village.
Unlike them, you won't betray me even if you don't take me in.”
His words caused the hostile aura Jared exuded to gradually dissipate. The latter no longer harbored
any doubt that Hefe was telling the truth.
It was obvious that the circumstances had left Hefe no choice. The information he shared about Brutus
was evidently not a lie.Jared's concerns about Hefe might have eased, but his worries for what lay ahead of them began to
swell.
He had no idea what sort of mystical herb Francois and the others were looking for. Nevertheless, it
was a certainty that a spirit beast was guarding something as precious as that.
Even if there were none, the powerful demon beasts that roamed the mountains were enough to turn
their journey into a one-way trip.
“I knew it. There's more to the matter than meets the eye. I didn't expect Dr. Weiss to be searching for
a mystical herb. We're in for a whole lot of trouble,” Ali said, his brows tightly furrowed.
“Ali, why don't we slip away instead of following them?”
Talk of hunting for the mystical herb deep in the mountains filled Percy with fear. The mountain range
was a forbidden area for his people after all.
“There's no escaping. We're no match for Dr. Weiss. If we were to attempt it, we would be killed before
getting far.”
Hefe got Percy to drop the idea immediately.
Percy's face turned pale. “What should we do? Once we go deeper into the forest, we'll end up being
eaten by the demon beasts!”
Silence was the only response Ali could offer.
Emily was overwhelmed with guilt. “Ali, Jared, I'm really sorry. Your lives wouldn't be at risk if not for
me.”“Emily, this isn't your fault. We may be searching for the mystical herb, but it's not necessarily
dangerous at all. You should be more optimistic. I'm sure we'll all be fine,” Jared comforted her with a
smile.
Contrary to his relaxed demeanor, Jared wasn't as upbeat inside. Deep down, he knew that Francois
was really powerful and Brutus was stronger than all of them. He couldn't figure out why those two
wanted weaker warriors like them to tag along.
The villagers who live nearby are clearly no match against high-level demon beasts due to their low
cultivation levels. Yet Francois still took them with him. It is clear that his real goal goes beyond just
needing them as security escorts.
