Joey turned to look at Lois. Lois didn't say anything BUT walked past him to Maggie.
She walked quietly to the bedside, squatted down and touched the little fellow's eyes whose brows that
were similar to hers.
Seeing that Lois was about to cry, Joey couldn't help but turn his head away. "She just fell asleep. Don't
disturb her."
Hearing that, Lois's fingers trembled. She looked up at Joey and said in a low voice, "I want to wait for
her to wake up."
Looking at her pleading face, Joey turned to look at other places and said softly, "it's good that you
don't wake her up."
Looking at Maggie who had just fallen asleep, Lois felt sad but happy. The sweet and bitter feeling
spread in her heart. She smiled happily and looked at Joey. "Can I help her tidy up the room?"
Joey remembered that Maggie had never allowed anyone to touch the decorations in her room.
Thinking of the tacit understanding and little secrets between Lois and Maggie, he nodded.
Lois was overjoyed. She stood up and put the previous dolls and little toys in their original positions,
and then put the toys into the drawer beside the child ladder
Looking at the room which looked eight percent like it was before, Lois was a little disappointed. She
looked at Joey and asked, "can you put back the change jars and cartoon characters?"
Joey frowned and said, "we'd better wait for her to grow up. It's not good that those may hurt her hands
and feet if those things are broken."
Lois was not reconciled, but she felt relieved when she thought that Maggie was about to leave.
She folded the clothes thrown anywhere by the little girl and the clothes washed by the servants and
put them in the closet. Looking at the little girl's room restored bit by bit, Lois smiled with satisfaction.
She looked at the clock on the wall. It was already half past five. She looked at Joey, and he was also
looking at her. His starry eyes were like a black hole, almost devouring her.
Hearing that, Lois's breath trembled and she lowered her head. "I want to cook something for her."
Noticing that Lois's eyelashes trembled slightly, Joey asked in a slow tone, "won't you stay with her?"
All of a sudden, he didn't want her to leave this room. He just wanted her to stay in their small house
and protect their family with him together.
Lois didn't have these messy thoughts. She just wanted to give more care and surprise to her daughter.
She looked up at Joey and shook her head. "I just want to cook something delicious for Maggie. She
will have a bad appetite if she gets sick."
Joey knew this very well. The two of them went out together. He asked the servant to take good care of
Maggie, and then went downstairs with Lois.
Taking off her long clothes and putting them on the dining chair in the living room, Lois expertly took out
thin meat and red dates from the fridge.
Standing aside, Joey watched Lois cooking porridge, soup and fruit salad.
Joey walked to Lois and asked, "when did you learn to do this?"
"Ah!"
Lois exclaimed. Looking at Joey, who was standing right in front of her, she blinked her eyes to calm
herself down.
Joey frowned. Did he scare her like this?
Not daring to say anything, Lois had to continue to make the salad with her head down. She tried to
ignore Joey beside her.
Joey thought that Lois was frightened by him so he got in a bad mood, but he didn't say anything. He
just watched Lois busy.
Without the interruption of Joey, Lois felt much better. She thought that she would have her own house
and a small family belonging to her and Maggie in the future. Although she couldn't give the little girl a
noble identity, she was willing to give the best to the little girl and let her live a happy and carefree life.
While putting the salad on the plate, Lois was imagining a bright future. She cherished this short
happiness very much, but more was her expectation for the future.
Joey looked at Lois, who was different from the one he hated in the hospital. Now she seemed to be
full of sunshine, which could light up all the dark corners.
She was like a spring, full of vitality and purity, making people want to be close, but afraid to be
harmed.
Lois stirred the porridge in the pot, scooped out a little and tasted it.
Her eyes met Joey's, who was looking at her eagerly. Thinking of her own bad attitude just now, she
put the spoon close to him and said, "do you want to have a try?"
Joey was still expressionless, but his heart was softer. He took the spoon and took a sip.
The sweetness of the dates filled his mouth. He nodded and praised, "it tastes good."
Lois smiled. This was the first time that Joey praised her. Perhaps it was because she was about to
leave with the child so she got a little grateful to him, Lois felt that Joey was surprisingly easy to get
along with today.
Lois opened the pot and found that the chicken drumsticks had been stewed to bone. She covered the
pot lid and changed the fire into smaller.
"What's Maggie's favorite food?" Joey asked.
Lois thought of her daughter's cute look and she shared it with Joey, "the little girl likes eating noodles.
She likes to suck in it the most."
Joey nodded, "I used to like noodles as well when I was a child."
"It makes sense."
Lois ignored him. He hadn't given his daughter any warmth in the past five years. How could he say
that his daughter looked like her father?
Seeing that Lois was stirring the porridge gently, Joey turned to look at the extinguished light under the
chicken soup and said, "all the unhappiness in the past has passed. You can move back sometime."
Upon hearing this, Lois stopped what she was doing and looked at Joey in surprise. She looked at the
man with a cold face in disbelief. Did he just ask her to move back?
Thinking of the complacent look on Sally's face, Lois sneered in her heart, 'that's right. How could the
elders of Gu Family allow Joey to marry Sally?'?
It was probably not because Joey didn't want to leave her daughter. It was more likely that Sally and
Joey hated her. As long as she lived in Gu Family all the time, they had the reason to torture her for a
lifetime.
However, at this time, Lois didn't want to argue with Joey. The main purpose of her coming here was to
see her daughter, not to talk about the "reconcile" with Joey.
Looking at the indifferent sneer on Lois's face, Joey was a little unhappy. He tried to persuade her
again stiffly, "Maggie needs you."
Lois was speechless. For her, Joey had no power to threaten her except taking out her child. But
wasn't Maggie his child either? How about letting her go for the sake of the child?
Looking at the indifferent expression on Lois's face, Joey felt depressed. He couldn't understand what
was in Lois's mind. Was she blaming that he had been cold to her for so many years? Was it because
he was always busy with his work and social engagements regardless of his family?
But it didn't seem to be the case. Lois had never been so tormented that he ignored her toughness and
due arrogance at the beginning.
"I don't know why you are doing so, but I still hope you can think about this family and the feelings of
the kid. She won't be willing to live with a single parent. You should have known it last time in the
hospital."
