When Margery drove to the kindergarten located at the suburban area of the city at full speed, it was
about 5:30 AM in the morning. The sun just began to rise. She immediately hopped off the car even
before she could park it well. She was still wearing the white night dress she put on last night while she
was only covered with a black jacket and stepping in a pair of black slippers. Obviously, she was in a
hurry to reach here.
Ms. Doyle, the teacher who made a call to her, had already been waiting outside the gate. When
seeing Margery arrive, she led her into the room of Andrew. Then she said anxiously, "Miss Margery, I
saw Andrew covering her belly while saying that he had a stomachache when I was checking last night.
I took his temperature but I noticed that he didn't have a fever. Nor did he have a cold. So I gave him a
glass of water and rubbed against his belly. But he still said that he was having a stomachache. Then I
noticed that he was getting worse. So I immediately made a call to you. Luckily, you arrived in time. It's
too remote here and there is only a clinic nearby. So I suggest that you should send him to the hospital
for a check immediately."
"I know. Andrew has been suffering from gastric disease. Perhaps it was a relapse. I am going to send
him to the hospital right now. Thank you for you call, Ms. Doyle."
After saying thanks, Margery bent over to hold Andrew up, who was still covering his own belly,
frowning out of pain. When seeing that, she felt that tears welled up in her eyes. She immediately
rushed out of the room and kept saying, "Andrew, my baby, wake up! Tell me! Where else do you ache
besides your stomach?"
Andrew was in a bad sleep. So he was soon woken up as Margery was running. He opened his tearful
eyes and looked quite happy when seeing his mom. His lips looked pale but he still smiled, "Mom, it
seems that there was a worm crawling in my stomach and I felt really pain. But I feel much better when
I see you."
Andrew, a two-year-old kid, was thin and weak. His hairs were brown and soft while her chin was slim
and V-shaped. While holding him in her arms, Margery couldn't even feel his weight as if she were
holding air, which rendered her quite worried.
When hearing that he still tried to comfort her, Margery couldn't help kissing her tender cheek, "Andrew,
just sleep for a while. Mommy will drive you to the hospital. And I will ask the doctor to get the worm out
of your stomach, okay?"
"Okay." Andrew nodded.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital. When the doctor was doing a check for Andrew in the room, he felt
even more painful while sweating. He couldn't help whining.
When seeing his twisted face, Margery was heartbroken. She could only pat his back gently to comfort
him, "Babe, mommy will always stay with you! Don't worry. You will be fine!"
The doctors soon reached an agreement after taking the diagnosis paper—they must perform surgery
for Andrew right now.
When hearing their decision, Margery felt like being shocked by a bolt from the blue. Her mind
suddenly went blank. She stammered, "He is only two years old. Is it necessary to have a surgery?"
"As we can see from the X-ray, a shadow appears on his liver. It should be a fester at an early stage. If
there is only an expectant treatment conducted with Chinese medicine, it might not work well as his
gastric and intestinal systems are too weak. So the medicine won't take much effect. The longer the
fester maintains, the worse the impact on him would be unless a surgery is conducted. That's the only
option."
Of course, Margery could tell that the doctor was right as she also majored in medical specialty. But
she still hesitated as she was shocked.
Andrew's health started to get worse again and again. So there was no room for her to hesitate.
She believed that her loving son must be blessed.
Margery didn't hesitate and made up her mind. She signed the risk notice and followed the nurse
towards the operation room after changing Andrew's clothes into hospital gown.
As sensible as Andrew was, he lay on the stretcher while holding Margery's hand tight. He blinked his
big and watery eyes, looking expectant, "Mom, I will listen to you and the doctors. I will stay strong and
stop crying. Can I see daddy after operation? Ms. Doyle told me that daddy hadn't come to see me for
weeks. I really miss him."
When seeing his eyes filled with expectation, Margery felt like tears surging up into her eyes. She tried
to hold back her tears and kept nodding, feeling pain, "Babe, I promise to you that you will see daddy
after operation. You will! I promise! I love you…"
Margery hesitated but she then continued firmly, "Daddy loves you!"
"I see." Andrew smiled. He still struggled to move his pale lips. But she could barely hear his weak
voice.
Margery immediately approached.
When hearing his words, Margery could never control herself again. Tears kept streaming down her
cheek just like waterfall and they all fell onto Andrew and wetted his soft hairs.
Because her sweetie was saying, "I love you, mommy…I love…I love daddy, too…"
It rendered her heartbroken.
When Andrew was taken into the operation room, Margery wiped away her tears. She tried hard to
keep her swollen and bloodshot eyes opened and dialed Golden's number.
The line wasn't connected until quite a while later. Then, a deep voice sounded, where there hidden
impatience, "What's the matter?"
Margery took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down, "Andrew is having operation in the hospital.
Can you come later?"
"No, I don't have any time."
After saying those cold words, he hung up the phone.
Margery gritted her teeth and dialed his number again. However, it was hung up again.
She grabbed her phone hard with her pale fingers. She seemed to freeze on spot just like a stiff statue.
After quite a while, she suddenly collected herself. When she thought of the expectant eyes of Andrew,
she suddenly turned around and teetered out of the hospital.
When she reached Golden's company, she was stopped by the front desk lady and the security guards.
She couldn't even go to her husband's office without appointment.
What was worse, she still failed to contact him with phone. She had no choice but to keep waiting
outside the building.
After waiting for hours, she finally saw Golden. However, something unexpected happened.
