Chapter 15

Pastry That She Had Bitten

Su Ying sneered. “You made it sound simple. If things were that easy, I wouldn’t have suffered all along the way. Tell the First Prince he can send someone to pick me up immediately, or I won’t do this anymore.”

Su Ying didn’t give him a chance to speak and turned to leave.

By the appearance of this person, Su Ying deducted that Xiao Jue hadn’t given up her as a chest piece. But because of her missing memory, she couldn’t recall what Xiao Jue wanted her to do. Nevertheless, she knew that this matter must have something to do with Xiao Jin.

But Xiao Jin was a half-dead exile. What could Xiao Jue want from him?

The man’s face darkened as he watched Su Ying leave. “Why does this idiot look so different?” In the past, as long as they mentioned the First Prince, she would be like a fool, willing to do anything. But today, she did not show the slightest reaction at the mention of the Frist Prince.

A person walked out from behind the first one and said with a sneer: “She’s suffered so much on the way here. Even a fool would understand that since she’s useless, we can only do it ourselves.”

“It’s not like we didn’t attack Xiao Jin before. But who’d expect that he could still kill our people even without legs? He is a demon. It won’t be easy for you to get him.”

The other man sneered. “Then we’ll take his bastards and make him give in. We’ll make him hand over that thing! When they made their move previously, they thought that Xiao Jin would not have much power with crippled legs and did not consider the two children. Now, those two bastards can be sacrificed.”

When Su Ying was about to reach the city gate, she saw Li Da looking longingly toward the street. When he saw her, he heaved a sigh of relief. Su Ying’s identity was unique, after all. If she ran away and caused trouble in the future, he wouldn’t be able to escape the responsibility.

After his heart settled down, Li Da sized her up and saw that she only had a few bags on her back. He didn’t know how much she had used of the silver.

As Li Da was sizing her up, he suddenly felt a chill on his neck and met Su Ying’s deep, cold eyes.

Li Da quivered and quickly put away his dangerous thoughts.

He was daring to actually covet her silver!

“It’s getting late. Let’s get out of the town.”

Su Ying followed the bailiff out of the town and returned to Xiao Jin’s side after changing back into her tattered clothes.

Xiao Jin’s eyebrows twitched when he saw the pot on her back.

Bai Shuang was also shocked when she saw Su Ying carrying many packs. “Princess, why did you let the bailiffs to buy so many things?”

On the road of exile, prisoners who had hidden silver could give some money to the bailiffs when they arrived in towns and asked them to bring things for them. The bailiffs could get some benefits from that. No one would refuse such a simple task. As long as it was not dangerous, they would buy for them.

“Right. It’s not nice eating dry food all the time. So I bought cooking utensils and will look for opportunities to improve our diet.”

In truth, Su Ying bought lots and lots of things, and she only carried a small portion.

Xiao Jin saw that her tiger skin was gone and guessed that she had probably exchanged it for silver. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have so much money.

After the bailiffs got ready, they set off. It looked like it was about to rain. If they did not leave now, they would be caught in the rain again.

Su Ying carried all the bags in her front and placed Mama Zhao on her back.

Before dark, they arrived at the foot of a mountain. From afar, they could see a village shrouded in thick fog.

Su Ying looked at the stone stele at the village entrance. The red paint on it had faded so much that the words couldn’t be read. It was obvious that this village had been abandoned for a long time.

As expected, when they entered the village, the weeds were almost as tall as a person.

Li Da sent people to check on the situation in the village. Soon, the bailiffs reported a large pig farm in the village, which was probably used to raise livestock in the past. Because livestock was valuable, the farm was built relatively sturdily. Despite no one living in the village, the farm could still shelter them from the weather.

However, the farm could not accommodate all hundreds of people, so most could only stay on the farm’s ground. The rest were divided into two groups and settled in the larger farmhouses.

Su Ying’s group were assigned to a farmhouse. This farmhouse must have belonged to one of the wealthier families in the village. The walls were made of black bricks, and the rooms inside were well-preserved and had no problem sheltering them from the weather.

Su Ying carried Mama Zhao into a room. There were only a table missing a leg and a bed, on which the dust was half a palm thick. One could imagine how long the village had been abandoned.

She asked Bai Shuang to clean the bed briefly, then put Mama Zhao on it and set her bags aside.

Xiao Jin and the others also entered the room, followed by about a dozen other prisoners. Everyone found a corner to sit down.

Xiao Jin asked Jiang Yang to put the still-sleeping Ji on the bed so he could lie more comfortably.

Ling walked to the side of the bed and looked at Ji eagerly. “Daddy, when will brother wake up?”

Xiao Jin wiped her tiny face and comforted her, “Brother will wake up soon. Don’t worry, Ling.”

Ling nodded in half confusion. “Brother, your wounds hurt. Ling will blow on it for you, and they won’t hurt anymore.” She puffed up her little face as she spoke and blew air on Ji.

Xiao Jin’s heart softened as he looked at his well-behaved daughter.

Su Ying took out a paper bag from her bag and opened it. She waved for Ling to come over.

“Ling, come and see what delicious food I brought you.”

Ling’s eyes widened when she saw the pasty in Su Ying’s hands.

Ever since she had gone into exile, she had not even had any hot food, let alone a pastry. The temptation of this snack was too great!

However, even though Ling desired it very much, she still subconsciously looked at Xiao Jin.

Xiao Jin’s cold eyes landed on Su Ying, and he didn’t move. Su Ying instantly understood.

She picked up a piece of pastry and put it in her mouth, then raised her eyebrows provocatively at Xiao Jin. This bastard, did he really think she would poison the snack?

Xiao Jin only nodded at Ling after seeing Su Ying eat.

Ling ran to Su Ying with her short little legs and looked at her with her large doe-like eyes.

Su Ying placed the entire bag of pastry in her hands. “Here, take it. It’s all yours.”

Ling couldn’t help but cheer. Her big eyes were sparkling. She held the sweets and tilted her head to think, then tiptoed and held a piece in front of Su Ying. “You eat it.”

Su Ying saw how hard she was working and squatted down with a smile. She opened her mouth and took a bite.

When Ling saw her eat, she smiled so widely that her big eyes turned into crescents.

Su Ying stopped after one bite. “That’s enough. I’ve already eaten. The rest is for Ling.”

Ling ran back to Xiao Jin with the snack in her arms, satisfied. She brought the remaining snack to his mouth. “Daddy, eat some too.”

Xiao Jin knew that the child was sensible, and she would be unhappy if he didn’t eat, so he didn’t think much about it. He opened his mouth and swallowed the pastry in her hand.

“Daddy, is it delicious?”

Xiao Jin nodded. “Good.”

Ling grinned. “She took a bite and said it was delicious too.”

Xiao Jin’s face stiffened, and he suddenly remembered that Su Ying probably had taken a bite out of that piece of pastry…
