At night, after dinner, Lizeth went to divorce her husband. Jim went to find his girlfriend, while Seth
played with Mandel in the yard.
Savanna finished cleaning up the dishes. Just as she entered the room, she saw that Brandon was on
the phone. Brandon seemed hesitant. He glanced at Savanna. “Alright. I’ll be right there.”
Brandon hung up the phone and said to Savanna, “Bob asked me out for a drink. Do you want to go?”
Savanna smiled bitterly, “What do you think?”.
Brandon grabbed her hand and used it to slap himself in the face.
“My fault. What I mean is, do you want to accompany me?”
Savanna said, “I’ll pass. You can go. As long as there’s no female companion.”
Brandon knew her condition wasn’t perfect. Since she was unwilling to go, he would not force her.
He picked up his jacket from the bed and reached out to gently hug her. He kissed her on the forehead.
“They enjoy female companionship. I kept my distance from women when there was something
between you and me. Let alone now.”
“One hangs out with similar kinds.”
Hearing Savanna say this, Brandon went back. He stood still and turned back to look at Savanna. He
was uneasy. “You have to believe me. You are the love of my life, and you will always be. No woman
will ever be a match for you.”
Savanna thought, yeah, right. If what you said is true, how do you explain Winnie? You can’t get rid of
her for so many years. Although everything was in the past, Savanna was still upset whenever she
recalled it. Savanna was a human, a woman, and she had feelings. She couldn’t get over the painful
days.
Savanna didn’t want to linger on the past or fight. She waved her hand and turned back to the
bathroom. “Just go. Don’t keep him waiting.”
“Alright.”
Brandon looked at her until she walked into the bathroom. Only when she closed the door did he step
downstairs.
Savanna had just finished bathing when Mandel knocked on the door and entered.
“Savanna, I want kebabs.”
Mandel was sweaty. It was probably because he was running around in the yard just now.
“I’m not feeling well. Let Seth take you.”
Savanna was not lying. She did feel weak. Yet she couldn’t tell what was wrong with her.
“No! I want both of you to take me there. Seth is always thinking about Lizeth. He is glued to his phone
chatting with her. He barely talks to me.”
Mandel grumbled.
Savanna found it hard to argue with Mandel. She changed her clothes.
Savanna and Seth took Mandel to the famous barbecue street in New York. There were many people
in the night market. The crowd was bustling. Mandel looked at the kebabs in the stalls all the way and
kept swallowing his saliva with appreciation in his eyes. Finally, they found the stall that they had visited
before. Mandel sat down, and Savanna took a small stool and sat beside him.
The owner soon served the kebabs and some drinks. Savanna did not allow Mandel to drink those
sugary drinks. Seeing that she was angry, Mandel did not dare to disobey her. He could only lower his
head and eat the kebabs in silence.
Savanna looked up and found that Seth was gone. She figured that he must have been hiding in a
corner, chatting with Lizeth.
Savanna did not know what to say about the fact that Seth had feelings for Lizeth.
After the meal, Savanna took a taxi and brought Mandel back. More than ten minutes later, Seth called
her and asked where they were. She said that they had gone home. Seth rushed back with sweat on
his face. “Mrs. Cassel, I’m sorry. I went to the bathroom, so…”
“It’s fine. Did Lizeth divorce the man?” Savanna asked.
Seth said, “The man is a bit difficult to deal with. He wants 75 thousand dollars. How can Lizeth have
75 thousand dollars?”.
Seth was distracted. Obviously, he was worried about Lizeth.
Lizeth’s husband had great academic qualifications, yet he was also realistic. Breaks-up could be very
ugly. Everyone would watch out for themselves.
Lizeth didn’t get any benefit from marrying him. And the man cheated on her. Why should Lizeth give
him money?
Sensing Seth’s indignation, Savanna said, “This has nothing to do with you. Don’t get involved.”
“OK,” Seth answered.
Seth returned to his room. Savanna took a bath for Mandel. After being told some nighttime story,
Mandel fell asleep.
Savanna walked out of the children’s room. She sat in front of the mirror and picked up a comb to comb
her hair. She accidentally pulled off a few strands of hair, and she stared at the gray one.
Savanna was stunned for a moment. Suddenly, she seemed to think of something. She quickly turned
her head and glanced back at the back of her head from the corner of her eyes. The gray hair offended
her eye.
She thought of what Tracy had said. Tracy said, “With a drop, your hair will grow gray. With a bottle,
your body will age.”
She quickly took her phone out to take a selfie.
The woman in the photo still had an exquisite face, yet the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes seemed
to be more than before. And her skin was not as tight as before. Savanna’s calmness was suddenly
shattered violently.
Helplessness and fear enveloped her all of a sudden.
Suddenly, she felt her heart racing. She quickly lay down on the bed and closed her eyes to sleep.
When she fell asleep, she couldn’t think about anything else. As soon as she closed her eyes, a gray-
haired woman appeared in front of her. The outline of the woman’s face was the same as hers.
Ah…
Savanna was so frightened that she sat up from the bed. She held her head and thought of the
woman’s face that had just appeared in front of her. Fear and uneasiness slowly overwhelmed her. She
was nervous, and she thought of what Brandon said. Brandon said that he wouldn’t leave her even if
she became old and ugly. That was because he had not seen her wrinkled, ugly face. If she did
become ugly and old, would he still be the same?
How many men in this world liked ugly women?
Brandon tried his best to drink less that night because he was thinking about Savanna. He didn’t drink
much. And it was one in the morning when he came back.
Afraid that he would wake Savanna up, he went to the next room to take a shower. Then he came back
to sleep with Savanna in his arms.
The next morning arrived.
Brandon woke up and saw Savanna lying beside him. She did not move. She just watched him with her
watery eyes. She kept staring at him after he woke up.
“Savanna…”
Brandon was about to pull her into his arms, but she pressed her hand against his chest. Obviously,
she did not allow him to approach her.
Savanna asked, “Where did you shower last night?”
“In the guest room.” Brandon was a bit confused, yet he still answered her truthfully.
Savanna did not say anything. She got up and went straight to the guest room. When she entered the
bathroom, she saw that Lizeth was about to take Brandon’s clothes downstairs to wash. Savanna
reached out and pulled the clothes from Lizeth. “Leave them to me. You can go down.”
Seeing that Savanna’s face was so cold, Lizeth did not dare to speak. She turned and went down the
stairs.
Savanna held Brandon’s white shirt and searched inside and out many times. Seeing that there was no
trace on the shirt, she was unwilling to give up. She then picked up his grey coat and started to check it
carefully. However, no matter how many times she checked, she still could not find any trace.
In the end, she picked up the clothes and moved them close to her nose. The pungent smell of
perfume made her feel so uncomfortable that she couldn’t speak.
Brandon sensed that something was wrong with her and immediately chased after her from the
bedroom: He saw her sniffing the clothes he wore last night.
“Savanna, let Lizeth do the laundry. You shouldn’t…”
Savanna interrupted Brandon before he could finish, “What time did you come back last night?”
