Chapter 136 - Storefront (2)

“We should help each other out.” Shu Yan smiled politely and didn’t take her seriously. She didn’t know the first thing about Hu Ruixue’s family, but she trusted that they were powerful. Any help from them would be more valuable than her hard work for years and perhaps even dozens of years.

Some people were just born with more than others. Shu Yan had already come to terms with that. Whether it was before or after her transmigration, she was destined to be someone who’d have to be self-reliant.

The two chatted for a long time, and Hu Ruixue discovered that Shu Yan really didn’t feel like a village woman who had never been to school. She felt very moved. If only Shu Yan was born into a family like her own, she’d for sure be able to accomplish much more.

Had Shu Yan knew that was what was going through Hu Ruixue’s mind, she’d tell her that she had overanalyzed it all. She was but a foreigner to this time period, possessing a cheat that allowed her to know the general trend of things in the next 20-30 years.

They had such a good time chatting with each other that they even went and had lunch together. When they left, Hu Ruixue gave Shu Yan her phone number.

“I am not much, but my brother and father have some pull in City Nan. If you run into any trouble, do give me a call.”

“Okay, thank you.”

Hu Ruixue dropped Shu Yan off at her shop. When Shu Yan was getting out of the car, Hu Ruixue suddenly asked, “Can we have lunch again some time?”

Shu Yan paused for a little, then smiled. “Of course.”

“Boss lady.” Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying were having lunch and did not see Hu Ruixue’s car.

“How come you are having lunch so late?” Shu Yan glanced over quickly. Zhang Huaxiu still has her one meat dish and one vegetable dish. Yingying’s lunch has improved some. Finally, there was some meat. Shu Yan did not want to pry too much into her employee’s personal life. She opened up the drawer and checked out the amount from that morning.

They’ve sold $600 worth of merchandise in the morning. They were averaging 1,500 yuan over the last few days. That’d put them at 45,000 yuan a month. Subtracting rent, utilities, cost, and salaries, her net profit would be 20,000 thousand yuan give or take. Not shabby at all.

“Boss Lady, are you going merchandising tomorrow?” asked Yingying with some hesitation after lunch.

“We still have a bit of inventory left. I will give them a call tomorrow to place an order and won’t be going to merchandising. What’s up?” Shu Yan had already taken a look. They were only short on a couple of styles, so she decided to take a break and not go this weekend.

“Not much. Something is going on at my house tomorrow, and I would like to take the day off.” Yingying kept her head lowered. She started a month after Zhang Huaxiu and now she was asking for time off before Zhang Huaxiu. She worried that would leave Shu Yan with a bad impression. This job was cozy with great pay. She couldn’t afford to lose it.

“Sure. You two have two days off a month anyway. You just need to let me know ahead of time. You can write out a request and I’ll sign it off. I will just come in myself tomorrow.” She had planned to go and take a look at the new house tomorrow and maybe go and buy some appliances. But that could wait now that Yingying wanted to take a day off.

Shu Yan took a look at Zhang Huaxiu. “Do you want to take a day off too? You have never taken a day off since the day you’ve started. It's been almost a month. Don’t just work all the time. Sometimes you’ll need to take a break as well.”

“It’s alright. I don’t have anything else going on anyway. We are not having promotions these last few days and it wasn’t too busy at work. I’m not tired and there’s nothing for me to do at home.” Zhang Huaxiu couldn’t bring herself to take a break. The boss lady had said that if she didn’t take a day off, she would get 30 yuan extra in pay. That’s 15 yuan a day.

Everybody was different. Some people rather make less and take some time off and others didn’t mind working more for more money.
