Ian slowly opened his eyes and glanced at the passenger seat without saying a word.
The driver then continued, “Although she doesn’t usually have much to say, her presence next to me is
quite significant. Now that she’s not here, somehow it feels like there’s more than one person missing.”
Ian laughed lightly at that. “Well, I find it much more peaceful than before.”
The driver couldn’t help it and laughed out loud as well. “She does nag you quite often, but that’s
because she cares about you. Do you notice that she never nags me?”
“Care?” Ian’s lips curled into a smile. “She’s just doing her job well. After all, it’s all for the money and
it’s not for me.”
Just then, the driver laughed out loud. “Why do I sense a hint of resentment in your voice?”
Meanwhile, Ian maintained his smile. “Your gut feeling is overly sensitive.”
The driver maintained his silence and drove off home with Ian.
Meanwhile, Ian sauntered into the house, smelling food as soon as he pushed open the front door.
Undeniably, he was quite touched about that but he quickly realized that it must be Aurora who had
made him dinner.
Just then, he changed into bedroom slippers before walking into the house. Then, he made his way to
the kitchen and found that indeed, Aurora had an apron on as she rushed around in the kitchen.
He stood there motionless and stared at her for a moment before walking over to her. “When did you
get here?”
All of a sudden, Aurora jumped up in surprise as she hadn’t heard him make a sound as he entered.
She turned around and kept her eyes on him for a short while before smiling. “What sort of expression
is that?! Why do you look like you’re looking at an intruder?”
He paused for a moment and took a couple of deep breaths. “What sort of expression do you have
then?!”
Meanwhile, Aurora continued to do what she was doing. “I just arrived not long ago. I thought that you
might be back soon so I wanted to make you dinner. From your expression, however, it looks like I’m
not welcome here.”
Truth was, Ian was not upset by her presence, but he didn’t have an appetite so he didn’t want to eat.
He just wanted to rest.
He remained silent as she continued her words, “Have you given Cindy a call? Did you ask her when
she would be back?”
Upon hearing that, he grunted. “We spoke on the phone last night. I’ll be going out for dinner with her
later on in the evening.”
Aurora was quite surprised to hear that and she turned around swiftly to look at him. “Oh—I guess I
must have been overthinking things. If the two of you are still meeting up for dinner, it looks like your
relationship is doing great. I thought that you were having a tiff at the moment.”
Ian snorted in response “There’s no tiff at all. We’re not the type to argue with each other.”
Indeed, he was quite right about this. Aurora was well-aware of his personality and she also had a
general impression of Cindy. She wouldn’t even be able to stand up for herself in an argument! It’s
quite true that the two of them wouldn’t even be able to get into an argument with each other.
However, Ian didn’t stay on for too long in the kitchen and he turned around to head to his room. After
he had changed into his loungewear, he then plopped onto his bed.
Previously, he kept feeling tired because of his huge workload but now, he was less busy and yet he
still couldn’t shake off his tired feeling each day as he came back to this empty room. There’s no
satisfying one’s greed.
After Aurora had finished preparing dinner, she didn’t come and get Ian but she placed the dishes
neatly and knocked on his door. Then, she mentioned by the door, “The food’s ready. Do you want to
have some? If you’re not up for it, I’ll leave it in the pan and keep it warm.”
Ian’s eyes swiveled around the room and then he replied, “I’ll have some.”
In fact, it wasn’t because he was hungry but actually, he realized that Aurora might not have eaten yet.
He then walked out of the room and saw that she was already seated by the dining table with a
resigned look on her face. “You look terrible. Don’t tell me it’s because your girlfriend’s been away for
the past two days? Are you the same guy that I’m familiar with?!”
Meanwhile, he accepted her words as a passing teasing remark. “I’m just feeling tired. It’s got nothing
to do with Cindy.”
He was indeed quite tired today; after all, the games he’d participated in the shooting session today
were strenuous as it involved running and jumping all over the place. He wasn’t normally an active
person so after the session, he was obviously knackered.
Aurora disregarded his words and ignored the possibility that this was all just an excuse. She then
continued, “You’re young, so you should be full of vigor. Don’t behave like an old person! You should
act your age. If you keep this up, surely, your girlfriend’s not going to be happy with you!”
As soon as Ian heard her words, he suddenly recalled the night before, when he saw Cindy and Naomi
at the night market. The two girls had been chattering happily with each other and they had indeed
looked youthful and full of vigor.
