Simon paused for a while and said slowly, “I’m guessing you’ve already heard about the will.”
Ian made a noise of confirmation but did not utter another word.
Then, Simon added, “In that case, then you of all people should understand why the will isn’t made with
fairness in mind. Don’t get me wrong; I personally have nothing against your portion under the will. I
mean, it’s only right that Dad left something for you after the whole family has practically shunned you.”
Upon hearing this, Ian could gauge what Simon was trying to say.
Sean had been in the Morgan Family’s favor for all these years, and now that Bryce was gone, a large
chunk of the family fortune went to him. It was no wonder that Leah would want to sink her claws on
Sean’s inheritance.
Chuckling at the sudden realization, Ian asked, “And?”
Simon was likely having a hard time describing it and his hesitation was clear as he asked delicately,
“I’m going to assume that you know how much Sean has inherited.”
Not mincing his words, Ian drawled, “I actually have no idea, and what does his inheritance have to do
with me?”
Simon was so taken aback by this that he was at a loss for words. How does that have nothing to do
with him? There is only so much of the family fortune, and if Sean is inheriting a huge part of it, then
naturally the rest of the family will be entitled to a lesser portion. There’s a direct correlation here!
However, Ian had never been after any part of the Morgan Family’s fortune, so Simon didn’t think he
was trying to present a modest and holier-than-thou front when he said those words.
Thus, he paused for a while before putting his case forward. “Look, if we go by the will, Sean ends up
getting most of the shares in the company, which means he practically owns the company. That’s a
huge chunk of the family assets and it goes without saying that Sean has taken enough from the
Morgan Family during Dad’s lifetime, but now he’s close to taking the whole cake. It doesn’t make
sense!”
Throughout all this, Cindy was quietly seated next to Ian and she could hear everything Simon was
saying through the phone.
She found the exchange somewhat hilarious; Leah and Simon had been the first ones to try to keep Ian
out of the will before it was even declared.
Now that the will was declared, they knew that they couldn't do anything about Ian and his inheritance,
which was why they had switched their target to Sean instead.
Given that they had failed to succeed in their schemes against Ian, they decided to bring him into their
dirty fight for part of Sean's inheritance.
Their intentions were beyond Cindy's comprehension. She wondered how anyone could be so wicked
and stupid at the same time. It's almost as if they think everyone is a simpleton like they are.
Ian was neither gullible nor foolish. After all the mess that had happened in the past, there was no way
he would be on their side now.
Sounding bored, he countered, “And why doesn't that make sense? Sean has always been the one to
run the company, and the company would never have gotten to where it is today without him. On that
note alone, who has more right to inherit the company than he does?”
He was making his stance clear when he said this and Simon swallowed the rest of his argument.
Indeed, Bryce technically had an early retirement, following which Sean stepped up to manage the
business.
Simon and Sally had worked in the company as well, but their ineptitude caused Bryce to oust them
after a while.
As stupid as Simon was, he was well aware of the fact that the company would have crumbled had
Sean not taken charge of things, which was why he was left without any retort against Ian's point.
Right now, Ian scoffed as he said sardonically, “Sure, Sean might have gotten a ton of favors from the
Morgan Family all these years, but he has contributed enough to deserve his inheritance.”
He was basically implying that Leah and her children had been indulging in all the luxuries the Morgan
Family could afford, but they had done nothing for the family in return at all.
If Ian had to be brutally honest about who did and did not deserve any inheritance, he would categorize
himself as the latter part and along with him, Leah and her children.
He would have no objections to the will even if Sean were to inherit every penny of Bryce's fortune.
That being said, Bryce spared Leah and Sally some kindness in which he had left them with enough
assets to live comfortably.
Perhaps the old man had been too disappointed with Simon that he decided against leaving anything
for Simon under the will, but as long as Simon was still on good terms with Leah and Sally, he would
survive all the same.
