Cindy looked at Aurora. “That’s just adding unnecessary problems to your plate. You’ll be upset if you
find out about it. If you just want to laugh at her, then I think we can make this visit, but I don’t think we
should go if that’s what you want to know.”
Aurora shook her head. “I know I’ve neglected Ian for a long time. He can hate me all he wants, but I
still want to know what his childhood was like.” She did try to get an answer out of Ian in daily
conversations, but Ian never wanted to bring his old life up. Every time she brought the topic up, Ian
would just avoid it. She had also asked Bryce if he knew what kind of childhood Ian lived when she
went to visit Bryce at the hospital, but Bryce said nothing.
That response was enough to chill Aurora to her bone. Bryce might have known nothing, or he just
couldn’t bring himself to talk about it, but either way, that meant Ian’s childhood hadn’t been good. She
knew the truth would hurt her, but she didn’t want to be kept in the dark. She wanted to know how
much her neglect had cost her own son.
Cindy didn’t want Aurora to look so crestfallen either, so she sipped some coffee and said, “Give me a
minute then. I’ll see if I can get any answers from them.”
She didn’t talk about any details, and Aurora didn’t ask. Cindy left the café, wore her hat and mask,
then she went straight to Morgan Residence.
Aurora crossed her arms and sighed. She had mixed feelings about the whole affair, but most of all,
she was restless and hesitant. She felt like she shouldn’t have come, and the feeling was making her
feel uneasy.
Cindy came back nearly twenty minutes later, and she took her mask off. Judging from the look on her
face, it should have gone well with the people at the residence. She came back to her seat and told
Aurora, “Give me a call.”
Aurora paused for a moment, for she was confused.
Cindy quickly said, “I gave my phone to the butler. He said he’ll get Leah to take the call.”
Aurora smiled. She quickly took her phone out, but instead of a normal call, she requested a video call
instead. It took the other party a while to pick up, but it was only some random noises for a moment.
Someone was shouting and yelling. Aurora frowned, and she called out to them.
It took a while for the situation to calm down, then the screen started to shake as the holder started
aiming it in a certain direction. Aurora had to look closely to figure out that it was Leah on the screen,
but she was unrecognizable.
She had seen Leah through the peephole back at Ian’s place and the photos of Leah on the streets on
the news. The difference was like night and day back then, but now, Leah seemed to have changed
into another person again. If she did not know better, Aurora wouldn’t have recognized Leah at all.
Leah’s hair was unkempt, and there was blood plastered to her face. She was locked in a steel cage,
and she was gripping the steel bars, sticking her face against them and glaring at the screen. Aurora
gasped when she saw where Leah was locked in. Bryce actually did this? This is illegal. It’s a crime.
Does he think he can do anything just because he’s old?
Leah probably knew it was Aurora on the other side. She growled like a beast for a moment, then she
asked, “Are you here to laugh at me?”
Aurora did not want to argue with her, for there was no point. She didn’t come all the way to argue with
Leah, so she asked, “I want to ask you something. How did you treat Ian in the years of my absence?”
