Upon hearing Zachary's words, everyone froze.
After all, there were times when the telepathic link between a mother and her child could be scarily
accurate.
“Thank goodness Arissa doesn't know about this. Otherwise, she'd be worried sick!” Shaun remarked
as he glanced at Benjamin.
The next second, he applied the ointment on Tim and redressed the boy.
“Arissa's premonition sure is accurate, though,” Kingsley exclaimed. “If only she can tell who the victim
is before misfortune strikes. Then, the person will be able to avoid it!”
“I'm to blame for not paying more attention!” Zachary muttered.
Poor Tim... If I had been more careful, we wouldn't have fallen into the trap. It's all my fault.
“This has nothing to do with you, you silly child!” Kingsley said as he gently knocked on Zachary's
head. “You're all safe now, so stop blaming yourself.”
Despite the reassurance, Zachary glanced timidly at his father, wondering if the latter might blame him
for the incident.
It didn't take long for Benjamin to realize how fearful the boy was, and his heart softened at the sight.
“It's normal to overlook the signs of others plotting against you. Just be more cautious in the future. You
aren't to blame for what happened today,” he coaxed.
Zachary nodded. “Understood. I'll be more careful next time, “By the way, do you want to go to
Mommy? Otherwise, she'd be worried about you, too.”
“He's right, Benjamin. Since Tim's condition has stabilized, you should hurry over to Arissa. We'll hold
the fort here,” Shaun urged.
Benjamin lowered his gaze to the boy in his arms. Hmm... I guess the ointment's working. Tim isn't
scratching himself anymore.
“Tim, are you feeling better?” he asked, forehead still creased with concern.
“Yes, I am,” Tim replied with a nod. “It's not that itchy anymore. However, I'm a little sleepy...”
Right on cue, the boy yawned.
“Well, it's probably because of the IV drip. Go ahead and sleep, Tim. You have nothing to worry about
in the hospital. I promise you'll be fine once you wake up,” Shaun said while ruffling Tim's hair.
Just then, Benjamin felt Tim's forehead, only to realize the boy was still a little feverish.
“He's still running a fever!”
Shaun met Benjamin's icy glare and hastily explained, “It's common for allergies to lead to fevers, but
Tim's low-grade fever isn't much of an issue. I'll give him a cold compress first, and if that doesn't help,
I'll prescribe some fever medicine for him.”
Seconds later, he instructed a nurse to feed Tim a glass of warm water before tucking the latter into
bed.
Still worried about his son, Benjamin briefly stayed by the boy's side until he felt ready to go to Arissa.
Zachary, however, remained behind with Kingsley and Shaun to take care of Tim.
When Benjamin finally stepped into Arissa's ward, he saw her sitting in bed and staring out the window,
her face fraught with anxiety.
“What are you looking at?”
Upon hearing the man's voice, Arissa turned and looked at him with relief and joy.
“You're here!”
Seeing that she was worried about him, Benjamin smiled to himself and strode over.
After ruffling her hair, he leaned in and kissed her.
Arissa gently pushed the man away as she felt a warm blush on her cheeks.
“The traffic jam was terrible earlier. Did you miss me?” Benjamin asked jokingly, not once taking his
eyes off the beauty before him.
“Of course not!” Arissa scoffed. “I only asked because you were taking so long to get here, and I got a
little worried...”
Benjamin chuckled and pinched her nose playfully.
“Are you relieved now, then?”
Arissa glanced at him and let out a soft sigh. “Did you call the kids?”
“Why? Do you miss the little ones?” Benjamin teased as he sat beside her.
Arissa nodded. Argh. Not seeing the kids makes me feel so uneasy.
“The kids are at home. They'll be bringing you some good food in a while,” Benjamin said without
missing a beat.
One thing was for sure—he wasn't giving anything away about Tim.
Thankfully, Benjamin's report corroborated with the children's, so Arissa saw no reason to overthink the
situation.
“In the past, they'd always come straight to the hospital, yet they headed home today.”
Benjamin smiled. “Shall I call to ask what time they'd be here?”
