Chapter 114: Another Monster

Lin Jin didn’t ask about anything else. At first, he still felt that injured humans should be sent to medical centers instead. But when he parted the fox’s blood-soaked fur and saw how this beast was attached to this human, he finally understood why this man was redirected to the Beast Appraisal Association.

Just like the man had said, the fox’s flesh had latched onto this young man’s chest.

The mass of bloody flesh showed signs of fresh scalpel cuts. The doctors at the medical center must have attempted to sever it, but they probably stopped the procedure when blood gushed out from the wound at an alarming rate that it would have proven fatal had they continued.

Meanwhile, when Lin Jin’s hand came in contact with the fox, the Museum of Deadly Beasts was instantly triggered.

Lin Jin’s pupils dilated.

“I have to diagnose this carefully without any disturbance. The rest of you please leave,” Lin Jin announced as he straightened up and waved them away.

The beast apprentices left quickly while the kind-hearted folks got ready to leave the hall as well. Lin Jin suddenly asked, “Right, does anyone know this person?”

The folks shook their heads, saying that he was just a stranger.

After that, everyone was gone.

Jia Qian hesitated before she bowed and left. She was no longer radiant or conspicuous as before, evidently trying to keep a low profile.

Zhao Ying, Lu Xiaoyun, and Han Dong stepped forward to help, but to their surprise, Lin Jin dismissively waved them off. “You three go and wait outside too.”

The trio was dumbfounded.

However, Lin Jin’s stern appearance allowed no room for discussion. Knowing their mentor, Lin Jin would never ask them to leave unless the situation truly called for it.

When there was no one else left in the room, Lin Jin subconsciously called forth Xiao Huo.

Silence.

Then, Lin Jin remembered he had left Xiao Huo at home today.

“This is bad!” Lin Jin was starting to panic.

He wanted to call for someone else but decided against it after having second thoughts. None of them would be able to help. If anything did happen, not only did they lack the ability to resist the force, but they might even lose their life in the process.

Lin Jin lowered his head to glance at the mortally wounded and seemingly dead fox. He took out a few needles, preparing to defend himself against any surprise attacks.

When Lin Jin looked at the fox again, its tightly shut eyes were now open and it was staring straight at Lin Jin.

Despite being covered in wounds, the fox’s gaze was unusually calm.

This was the second monster Lin Jin had come across.

Lin Jin only found out the moment about it after he touched the fox earlier.

Moreover, this creature wasn’t just a regular monster. It was definitely more powerful than the black anaconda Lin Jin met previously.

Although it looked extremely pitiful as if it was on the verge of dying, one shouldn’t judge a monster by its appearance. Hence, Lin Jin sent everyone away calmly. If he remembered that Xiao Huo wasn’t with him today, Lin Jin might have chosen to evacuate the place with the rest.

“Rank 3 monster, a fox demon. Unable to form blood pacts with monsters. Incredible intelligence. Severely wounded. Blood symbiosis. Skills in dream invasion.

“The four treatment methods are…”

“The six evolution methods are…”

“The current number of monsters recorded, 2/4.”

The first monster he had come across was that black anaconda from before. Back then, Xiao Huo had had a tough time battling that creature and it was only a Rank 2 monster.

This monster right here was a Rank 3.

If Xiao Huo had cultivated the Beast Energy Formation Part Two, Lin Jin had a feeling that he might be able to stand his ground against this fox, but Xiao Huo wasn’t here right now. Lin Jin didn’t bring Goldy with him today either. It was dangerous to be by himself. Although the coiled wire needle was a powerful technique, it was best not to engage in a fight with the fox.

But there was one thing Lin Jin couldn’t wrap his head around. When those kind-hearted folks from earlier discovered the victim, they made sure to give the fox, whom they assumed was the attacker a good beating. A regular beast would have died several times over. Still, despite how heavy-handed they were, the fox chose not to hurt any of them. The fox demon didn’t retaliate when the doctors over at the medical center made an incision on the flesh connection either.

This was quite strange.

Holding onto the needle, Lin Jin noticed that the monster’s current status was ‘severely wounded’ and that it was in the process of ‘blood symbiosis’.

As long as this status was on display, the museum would be able to provide further elaboration on the beast’s condition. After checking the ‘blood symbiosis’ status, Lin Jin finally understood what was going on.

Blood symbiosis was a demonic art that allowed the spell-castor to share its veins with a human. If the human dies, the monster dies. If the monster perished, the human would perish as well.

This didn’t seem like an offensive move at all. At least, it wasn’t something you’d use when attacking a human being.

With a flick of his fingers, Lin Jin performed the coiled wire needle technique, allowing it to pierce into the young man’s body. As the needle ran along the man’s veins, Lin Jin drew in a breath of cold air.

This young man should have died.

His heart was damaged, possibly pierced by a sharp object. However, he was only still breathing because the fox demon used blood symbiosis to save his life.

Lin Jin was even more confused.

Why was the fox demon saving humans?

Perhaps it sensed that Lin Jin could help save the man’s life, so a certain emotion filled the fox demon’s gaze. When their eyes met, Lin Jin subconsciously realized that the fox was begging him to save the young man.

It was a grave situation. Thankfully, Lin Jin’s pulse-seeking technique could treat wounded human beings as well as it could treat pet beasts.

He grabbed some spider silk thread, put it through the coiled wire needle, and pierced it into the young man’s body to mend his damaged heart.

Spider silk thread was a special suture and was an incredibly pricey item.

Lin Jin didn’t know about other places but in the whole of Maple City, it was likely that only he himself knew how to carry out such a complex procedure.

The coiled wire needle worked swiftly. In less than ten minutes, Lin Jin could retrieve the needle. However, this procedure drained a lot of his spirit energy so Lin Jin’s forehead was now covered in sweat.

Glancing at the fox demon, Lin Jin flicked his needle over at it to treat its wounds.

Of course, the treatment method he used was from the museum as well.

Since the fox demon so willingly laid down its life to rescue a human, it might not even be a malicious entity like the black anaconda. As it was within his power and abilities, Lin Jin decided to help it.

The fox demon was visibly startled when it was pierced by the needle. But soon it understood what Lin Jin was trying to achieve and it began complying. Simultaneously, the flesh around its abdomen began to fall away as the creature slowly broke free from the young man.

This young man could only survive because the fox demon had lent him its heart to keep fresh blood pumping through his veins. Otherwise, the young man would have died long ago.

Taking out a pill, Lin Jin tossed it over and the fox demon leaped up and swallowed it.

Both human and beast were in sync with each other.

With its incredible recovery abilities, the Rank 3 monster could now move about. It glanced at the man on the floor, then at Lin Jin, before jumping up onto the roof and then disappearing in a flash.

It was gone.

While Lin Jin was curious about its existence, he had no business stopping the fox from leaving.

He examined the young man and it became clear that the latter’s condition was no longer critical. Speaking of which, Lin Jin and the fox demon were both this man’s benefactors. The fox demon had used blood symbiosis to prolong his life while Lin Jin used the pulse-seeking technique to mend his heart.

Outside the hall, the crowd hadn’t actually left. This included the farmers who brought the young man over. They were discussing the fox creature among themselves.

Suddenly, Lin Jin opened the door and gestured for them to come inside.

When the group entered through the door, they were shocked to see the stitches across the young man’s chest. Judging by the rate at which he was breathing, they figured that his condition was more or less stable now.

“Appraiser Lin, where’s that dangerous fox?” someone couldn’t resist asking.

Lin Jin shook his head. “It’s dead. This man should be fine now. Send him to the medical center.”

Although they were skeptical about his reply, no one else asked any more questions.
