Chapter 438: Daojun’s Hieroglyphic

Since Jiang Ziqi started the topic, the others began to speak up.

Not only was Daojun skillful in cultivation, but he was also a renowned expert in controlling beasts and this was a constant fact in their claims. They even started sharing examples of his notable actions.

There were tales of Daojun riding a dragon into the east sea, or his brutal killing spree of insect monsters across the land, or his extermination of locust swarms. Upon hearing these stories, Lin Jin couldn’t help but recall his encounter at Mount Gu Cong.

Daojun had six disciples called the Six Beast Taoists and Insect Taoist was one of them.

While these stories sounded like fairy tales, it was likely that they were true, especially after his encounter with Insect Taoist.

The group continued talking, revealing every bit of information and tales they had heard about Daojun. It was one of the liveliest moments in the Visitation Hall.

Of course, they were also curious as to why Curator had suddenly taken an interest in the peerless Daojun from several hundred years ago. However, since Curator did not provide the reason for asking about Daojun, they wouldn’t ask about it either. That was the consensus they had reached long ago.

Suddenly, the prince of Heavenly Spiral Kingdom, Feng Ziqian said something that immediately piqued Lin Jin’s interest.

“Curator, in the royal treasury of my kingdom, there seems to be a Daojun’s Hieroglyphic that’s said to be a personal work of Daojun. However, it is unintelligible to the average person. I chanced upon it when I was young but after reading a few pages, even I failed to understand what it said.”

Right after Feng Ziqian spoke up, Lin Jin approached him.

“Daojun’s Hieroglyphic? Would it be possible for you to show it to me?” Lin Jin asked.

Feng Ziqian wore a helpless expression.

“Uhm, Curator, I’m not a selfish person, but you must know that the royal treasury is a place that even I am prohibited from accessing. Unless I have the permission of my father and my three grandfathers, they would never let me into that place,” he explained.

Simply put, the mission was hard!

It was the premium Heavenly Spiral Kingdom after all. The royal treasury wasn’t a place where anyone could just waltz right in for no special reason. Forget Feng Ziqian, even the reigning Emperor was unable to access it.

Heavenly Spiral Kingdom was being guarded by three royal elders and while the Emperor had full autonomy over the nation’s matters, the three royal elders held authority in matters concerning the royal family and the treasury.

Hearing this, Lin Jin sighed.

He was very disappointed.

His gut already told him that the Daojun’s Hieroglyphic was no ordinary item. It might even contain the clues he needed, but it seems like Feng Ziqian wouldn’t be able to get it for him.

“Anyway, I’ve always been praised for my impressive memory. While I only flipped through the pages out of coincidence, I still remember what it looked like inside. The hieroglyphs really caught my attention, and sometimes I’d write them out for fun. If you’d like, Curator, I can write it out for you. Of course, there will be discrepancies but I think they’re mostly correct.”

Lin Jin immediately instructed Feng Ziqian to do it.

Soon, a full page of alien characters was handed over to Curator by Feng Ziqian.

“These are words?”

“I don’t recognize them. I used to travel extensively through various countries but I’ve never encountered these words before.” Ye Yuzhou was a highly knowledgeable man but he too shook his head at the words.

“Perhaps those aren’t words but just plain scribbles?” Old Tian offered a simple theory that suited his character most.

As the group speculated on the origins of the hieroglyphs, they didn’t realize the magnitude of the shift in Lin Jin’s emotions as he read the hieroglyphic page.

Thankfully he was wearing a mask.

Right now, Lin Jin had to force his fingers not to tremble. Feng Ziqian was right, there were some discrepancies in the words he copied but it did somewhat resemble the select few pages of the hieroglyphs.

Of course, they wouldn’t be able to verify if what he copied was correct but to Lin Jin, he was able to understand a bit of what Feng Ziqian had copied. It was because Lin Jin was able to read these words.

Prior to transmigrating to this world, Lin Jin had been using these exact words and he was more than familiar with them. For all his life, these characters were etched in the back of his mind. When Lin Jin inexplicably came to this world, he also inherited the owner’s memories, thus allowing him to communicate using the language of this world.

However, that didn’t mean he had forgotten the words he used in his previous world.

And this was the reason for his shock.

Had anyone else recognized a language from their previous world that shouldn’t have existed here, they would be just as flustered.

The words Feng Ziqian copied down were extremely ugly and most of the sentences were jumbled up and incoherent. However, it wasn’t that hard to decipher what Daojun wrote down.

Anyway, Lin Jin’s emotions were currently a raging mess.

It was no wonder that Daojun’s book has been deemed a hieroglyphic. No one could understand it because the words came from another world, and it would be bizarre if they did.

But Lin Jin could read it.

‘I came… a hundred and eighty years… miss very much… Eggdog, he must have died of hunger by now, hasn’t he? Want… to go home!’

He couldn’t make out much of it but to Lin Jin, every single word felt like a friend he hadn’t seen in ages. They felt so dear to him.

Suppressing his excitement, Lin Jin took several deep breaths before he finally calmed himself down.

He looked at Feng Ziqian and asked, “That’s all? Perhaps you can try searching your memory and see if you can write out more.”

As he was too excited, Lin Jin forgot one thing.

Right after he had spoken, Feng Ziqian was stunned. It wasn’t just him but Zhao Jingyan, Black Crow, Madam Ghost Child, and Ye Yuzhou were also dumbstruck.

Lin Jin then realized what was going on.

His request implied he could read the random scribbles.

But it didn’t matter, did it? So what if they found out? Lin Jin wouldn’t tell them the real reason so they could go ahead and speculate as much as they wanted.

His concern now was if Feng Ziqian could write more.

Lin Jin was dying to know the contents of Daojun’s Hieroglyphic.

Feng Ziqian shook his head. “It was more than a decade ago and being able to recall this much is the best I can do. Curator, d-do you … recognize these words?”

At his question, everyone looked over.

Lin Jin smiled silently back at them.

He was Curator. When asked a question, he could choose to answer it or to stay silent, and no one could do anything about it. After a little chuckle, Lin Jin continued to remain silent. Although their curiosity was killing them, they stopped probing for an answer.

These visitors were all obedient and respected the rules, and for that, Lin Jin was pleased.

Although Feng Ziqian couldn’t recall more of the hieroglyphic’s content, it was no longer important. Even if he did remember, he only read about two pages of it so Lin Jin wouldn’t know what the entire book was about.

In other words, Lin Jin had to find a way to obtain that book.

“If I would like to borrow Daojun’s Hieroglyphic, how should I go about doing it?” Lin Jin decided to cut to the chase. Upon hearing this, Feng Ziqian revealed a troubled expression.
