Olive bit her lip as she got into the tent. She heard him chuckle. She glared at him. Smiling, when you
smile enough, you should be careful not to laugh off your chin. Olive thought these in her mind.
There was not much room, and though they sat at opposite ends, they could easily touch each other by
stretching their arms or legs.
Alan pulled out two large white plastic bags, “stop staring at me. Your eyes seem to be falling off. Let’s
get something to eat. You should be hungry.”
Olive opened the plastic bag and peeked inside. Oh, there were snacks, cooked food, drinks, water,
even wine and candles. The cups were also very complete.
I didn’t know if it was him who ordered it, or if it was the people who were reading his mind and trying to
flatter him. Most likely, those people had assumed that either the boss was trying to sleep with her or
she was trying to seduce the boss.
The human heart was indeed the most evil.
Olive ignored everything. She was already hungry. Only when she have had enough to eat and drink
could she have the strength to stare at him. She didn't want to ask him why he didn’t ask people to put
up an extra tent. It was a waste of saliva anyway. She just said, “you deserve to be the boss. You get
whatever you want.”
“I ask people to do things, I pay them, and I enjoy the fruits, what’s wrong with that?”
“So being a boss is awesome.”
Alan’s face darkened slightly, “but there’s a saying that It’s lonely at the top.”
If no one could share the joy of success with you, and no one could understand you, then loneliness
and solitude would always be with you.
Olive saw the tired look in his eyes, knowing that he must have lived a very hard life over the years.
She felt sorry for him, but she dared not show it, “Alan, it’s a lot easier said than done. At your
command, someone will take care of everything for you. You’re not like us. We go around trying to
make a living. We have to watch other people’s faces and be cautious. If we suffer, we can’t speak, and
a broken tooth can only be swallowed.”
Alan couldn’t miss the irony in her words, “it looks like you have a problem with me. You think I bullied
you?”
Olive thought that he was the self-knowledge on her mind. On the face, she was smirking, “you’re my
boss, I dared not think so.”
“But I don’t think you’ve ever treated me like a boss.” Alan sat idly on the floor, raising one leg, placing
one arm casually over the leg and watching her idly.
“Really?” Olive looked wronged, but she was so guilty that she disguised it by drinking water.
“I think you treated me like an old friend whom you had not seen for a long time.”
Olive nearly spat out water and she dabbed her lower lip with the back of her hand, “I’d like to. Maybe I
could use this to help me to get a promotion, a raise and to get an easy job.”
“Do you really like that?”
“Well, since you transferred me from sales department to President Office, people spat up to my neck. I
don’t want to be spat on and drowned.”
“Are you scared?”
"Gossip is a fearful thing." Hidden rules were always associated with women, especially those who got
too close to their bosses. Even if they were pure in mind and body, their relationship would be
considered ambiguous by others.
"But if you are competent, you are not scared of what people say. You don't look like a woman who
cares what other people think."
He actually quite understood her. She was not concerned about how people talk about her behind her
back. Mouth was someone else’s, and you can't cover someone else’s mouth, so you don't need to
mind that what other people say. There were always some gossips and people who said some idle
words in the office.
However, she cared about her family. Her power was limited, but she wanted to protect them as
possible as she can.
What Alan didn't know was that she had received a text message on her mobile phone with an
unknown number last night: stay away from him.
It's just four words. It chilled her hands and feet. She felt a pair of invisible eyes monitor her, or monitor
every move of Alan behind the back.
The distance between her and him was far away like ends of the earth.
Olive smiled slightly. She felt bitter in her throat like a duck bone in her throat. "Alan, you really think
highly of me." she said.
"You dare have a drink with me?" Although he seemed to ask her, he already poured out two glasses of
red wine by his hand, and then he offered one glass of red wine to her.
Olive looked at him with hesitation. Who said he was unsmiling. His perfect lip, the corners of his mouth
were slightly raised. He smiled like a wily fox. He even picked his eyebrow when he looked at her,
"huh?"
Since he wanted her to drink, she drank. She wouldn’t get drunk on this anyway.
In order to induce her to say who Annie's father was, Chloe set a trap for her, and they invited her to
play the moment of truth. If she didn't answer the question, she was punished for drinking. If she was
drunk, they could ask her that who Annie's father was. They have tried their best. But in the end, she
was the only one who wasn't drunk, and no one dared ask that who Annie's father was anymore.
Her good capacity for drinking helped her a lot in her future work. But it was not so easy for women to
work among men.
Although she often said that she didn’t drink, she needed social activity, if she wanted to get business,
did business, and got a high commission. It's hard to avoid drinking at parties. When she drank, she
had to watch out for the malevolent hands of the men.
In the beginning, Olive couldn’t understand that why these men who already had wives and children,
were so promiscuous behind their families back. They went whoring and did some dirty things in the
name of work.
But as she saw more of these things, she gradually became numb. Most men were like that. A man
looked like a gentleman, but maybe he's a beast in human attire.
But how disappointed she would have been, if Alan had become one of these men.
