The Regent’s Little Emperor (62)

It was just tight enough, and wouldn’t make her feel uncomfortable.

It was cast after taking measurements. It couldn’t be broken by blades or melted with fire, and couldn’t be opened without the key.

After making sure he restrained the little emperor, he locked the other end of the chain around a support column.

Like this, she was completely trapped and couldn’t go anywhere.

Bai Weiwei looked incredulously at the chain on her ankle and became angry. “What are you doing? Imprisoning me?”

Xie Yunting approached her, looking sinister. He silently lowered his head and kissed her.

This kiss was fierce and restricting, so entangling that she couldn’t breathe and trembled all over.

The kiss was long and tortuous.

When it was finished, Bai Weiwei’s face was shockingly pale, and she recoiled.

Xie Yunting also gasped in a low voice. He carefully caressed her eyebrows, her lips, her collarbone, her skin, everything.

Bai Weiwei struggled but could do nothing else.

She began to softly plead, but he ignored her. He caressed her but didn’t take any further action.

Bai Weiwei began to doubt life.

After the touching, she just wanted to go to sleep.

And it was then that Xie Yunting suddenly stopped, and held her in his arms.

She later realized that he was shaking, and tears soaked her shoulder.

He was crying…

Bai Weiwei reached up to pat his back but hesitated a moment before she retracted her hand.

Her heart was touched for a moment, but in a flash, it vanished.

She remained calm and rational.

And the system watching on the sidelines breathed a sigh of relief as it further enhanced the emotion stripping effect.

Xie Yunting didn’t know how long he had been hugging her.

When he finally had the strength, he stood up, turned around, and walked out step by step.

His voice was calmly indifferent, and his words were like blades dripping with blood. “From today on, you can’t go anywhere else. You can try to escape, but…

He’d already reached the door. He turned coldly, and the sunlight came in, sharply defining his frosty appearance.

“But you’ll never be able to run from me. Even if the palace hall can’t trap you, I can still use the tightly guarded imperial palace as a cage. If the imperial palace isn’t big enough, then I’ll use the world to trap you1.”

Bai Weiwei felt that she had awakened a lone wolf.

No, a tyrant.

Xie Yunting sneered. “Since you don’t want my love, as long as I return to being that wildly ambitious superior, I will overturn the world for you to see.”

Bai Weiwei frowned. “What are you doing?”

Xie Yunting said coldly, “Do what I should have done from the start, and change this country’s name.”

After that, he ignored her and walked out.

Then Bai Weiwei vaguely heard him instruct others outside.

It was to increase the number of guards and not allow anyone to go in and out of the palace.

When Bai Weiwei determined that Xie Yunting really had left, she lay flat, weakly complaining: “Tired, ah. Originally it was a simple drama about secret love in the court. Thanks to the broken side quest it’s collapsed into this abusive dog blood drama. My heart is tired, ah, Tong’er2.”

System: Tong’er…

Its heart was even more tired.

“Why are you forcing the male lead into becoming emperor?”

Bai Weiwei thought hard. “Just thinking, only the emperor deserves such a noble me.”

System: “Be serious.”

Bai Weiwei: “Where am I not serious? I’m an emperor, and who wouldn’t care about getting married to someone of equal status3. Of course, only an emperor would match an emperor; poor people and low-status households4 won’t have a good end.”

System: …so, all this abuse, is to end up with a good match?

1: The first part of the sentence refers to 宫殿 (gōng diàn), the building where the emperor handles political affairs or holds banquets. The imperial palace 皇宫 (huáng gōng) is where the emperor and his wives, concubines, and children lived. At first, I wasn’t sure why the palace hall was mentioned first, but I’m guessing that the logic goes like “You don’t like being/working as the emperor? House arrest. House too small? The ~ w o r l d ~ is my prison.”↩

2: A cutesy pet name for the system, made by taking the second character and adding the diminutive “er”↩

3: 门当户对: an appropriate match; families who are well-matched in terms of social status. I.e. a duke marrying a duke vs a duke marrying a baron or (heaven forbid) a C O M M O N E R.↩

4: 壕门 literally says moat/trench door/gate? I just made do with the context.↩
