Before the day came to an end, almost everyone in the hospital knew that Sheffield was looking for Horace's beautiful sister.
The news took Horace by great surprise. He didn't even know that he had a sister.
He called Sheffield, who was heading for the department of gynecology. He answered perfunctorily, "Oh, it's not you. I was referring to another Horace."
"What—" Before Horace could say anything further, Sheffield hung up on him.
He had postponed all his work to find Evelyn. But, he still hadn't found her. He even doubted if it had been an illusion because of his busy work when he had seen her in the garden.
The last stop of his search was the VIP inpatient department of gynecology and obstetrics.
It was completely dark outside when he entered the department.
At the nurse's station
The nurses were wearing pink uniforms. Nurse A asked Nurse B, "Why did you take the night shift? You just came back from your vacation."
Nurse B quickly adjusted her appearance and asked, "Is this your first day?"
"Yes, they said you were experienced and asked me to work as your intern for some time."
Trying her best to suppress her excitement, Nurse B answered in a polite tone, "No, they were just exaggerating. But no matter who you work for as an intern, you have to work hard, because our work is very important... Dr. Tang!"
Leaning against the counter, Sheffield smiled at them and asked, "Are you on night duty?"
Nurse B stood up excitedly. "Yes, Dr. Tang. What brings you here?" 'He is indeed a very handsome man!'
Sheffield complained with a pout, "Horace asked me to look for his sister. I've been looking for her the whole day, but haven't found her yet."
"For his sister?" the nurse asked in confusion. "Why couldn't he just call her?"
Sheffield replied calmly, "She was unconscious when she was brought here, and had left her phone at home. I logged into the hospital system, but couldn't find the patient information, but it's certain that she's in our hospital."
"I see. Let me check the registry. Do you know her name?" the nurse asked.
After a whole day's search, Sheffield figured that Evelina was not her real name. He took out a photo from his pocket. Placing it in front of the two nurses, he replied in an annoyed voice, "Who knows what her name is... She looks like this."
Like all the other nurses, the two nurses first praised the woman in the photo, and then looked at each other. At last, they shook their heads. "I just finished my inspection tour of the wards. I'm sure that there was no such beauty in there," the experienced nurse said.
Sheffield was disappointed beyond words.
He put his arms on the counter and sighed heavily. 'Evelina, where the hell are you?' he thought.
As the nurses looked at him in pity, he suddenly raised his head and put on that handsome smile. "Do you mind if I check the wards myself?" He still believed that he might find her if he looked for her in each and every ward.
"No problem, please go ahead!" As a doctor from the hospital, he had the rights to inspect the patients.
He searched every corner of the VIP inpatient department, but to his disappointment, there was no sign of her anywhere.
He then went back to the other departments, and decided to search the hospital ward by ward.
No sooner had he left the obstetrics and gynecology department than Nurse C came out from one of the wards and returned to the nurse's station with a tray of medical equipment. "The patient in Ward 6 was discharged this afternoon, right?" she asked.
Nurse B looked at the records and said, "Yes. Um… What's the patient's name?" In the records, it only said No. 6.
Nurse C hammered her own shoulders with her fists to relax. "Of course, there is no name. The patient is someone important. All news regarding her admission here has been blocked, and even after being brought to this hospital, we still don't know what she looks like, or what her name is. Anyway, she is a big shot!"
"Why is she here? Is she hurt?" Nurse A asked curiously.
Nurse C glanced at her and then told them secretly, "It's an ectopic pregnancy. She had a split oviduct. When she was brought here, she was in shock. The director and vice director of our department personally handled the situation and pulled her back from death."
"What? That sounds scary." Nurse A was still inexperienced and her heart started beating fast.
"Exactly! Our doctors did everything they could. If something had happened to Miss No. 6 in our hospital, we would all have been implicated." Nurse C was not exaggerating at all. That was exactly what the president of the hospital had told them at the time.
Nurse B held her chin and asked, "Who is she? Seems like a very important person."
"I don't know, but nobody has the courage to discuss it. We only know her as Patient No.6 and she is already being transferred. I heard that she is going to United States for recuperation."
Nurse B was confused. "Isn't she alright now? Why does she still have to go to America?"
Nurse C shook her head and said, "How silly of you. She is rich. She is going to the best hospital in the world for follow-up treatment, trying to minimize the damage in all aspects. If I were that rich, I would have done the same thing too. I would try to get the quick and most comfortable treatment."
"You're right. Well, let's hope she gets better soon."
And just like that, Evelina completely disappeared from Sheffield's life.
He searched every corner of the hospital, but couldn't find her. He checked all the discharge papers and transfer papers, and even investigated everyone who had been discharged or transferred from the hospital, but to no avail. None of them matched his Evelina's description.
On top of that, he had even checked the personnel department files of ZL Group, including the CEO, Carlos Huo, to the cleaners. But there was no one named Evelina in the files.
The next day, when Horace called Sheffield, he was still checking the household register system of Y City, looking for someone named Evelina. He hadn't slept at all the night before.
There were altogether fifty-eight Evelinas in Y City. None of them was the one he was looking for.
Sheffield completely gave up on the name. It was a fake.
He grabbed his coat and rushed to the hospital.
In the nephrology department
Horace was talking to a patient about his surgery. When he saw Sheffield, he said hastily, "Where have you been? The president wants to see you. Hurry to his office!"
Sheffield hung his coat on a hanger nearby, turned on the tap and washed his face. After briefly tidying himself up, he put on the white uniform and hurried to the president's office.
In the president's office
When Sheffield knocked on the door, Sidell Xiang was on the phone. Opposite to him sat a young girl.
She was in her early twenties and had light brown curls. Her make-up was delicate, and she was wearing a baby pink dress from a well-known international brand.
The girl's eyes brightened when she saw Sheffield walk in. She stood up from the chair, ran to him, and held his arm casually. "Sheffield, where were you all morning? I've been waiting for you for a long time."
