Sheffield sat in front of Savannah and Dollie. Looking at the admiration in her sister's eyes, Savannah was sure of one thing.
It certainly looked like Evelyn and Dollie loved the same guy—Sheffield.
Dollie figured she'd get busted for her little lie about Sheffield being her boyfriend. But he was her ticket back to a rich life, so for her and her father's sake, she kept it up.
But Sheffield wasn't having any. He didn't want to talk to her at all. And he also wanted to destroy her. So letting Savannah talk to him was Dollie's best option. She was sure if Sheffield truly liked Evelyn, he would let the Xiang family go since Savannah, Evelyn's best friend, was a member of the family.
Sheffield didn't summon a waitress to get any drinks. The young doctor wanted to get straight to the point. "If I were you, Savannah, I wouldn't get involved. The Xiang family is a mess."
However, he was not Savannah.
She was soft-hearted. True, the Xiang family was super mean to her, and Sidell wasn't a good father, but she was still too kind to blow him off. Him or the Xiang family.
Before she could say anything to him, she was embarrassed by his words. "Mr. Tang, Sidell is my dad. I can't just watch you do this without saying anything."
Sheffield looked at her, expressionless. "I get it. But there's a saying: evil actions bring revenge. Heard that before?"
The man in front of her was different from the one she had met at Evelyn's birthday party. Last night, he was bubbly and cheerful, but the guy sitting opposite her was a stranger, cold and distant.
"I know my dad hurt you and you won't forgive him. That's why I brought Dollie along, so she could apologize on behalf of the family." She would do anything to make Sheffield drop the lawsuit.
Sheffield curled his lips, revealing a mocking smile. "Apologize? Do you think I'd actually accept their apology? Will an apology bring my mom back to life?"
"No, it's not like that..."
"Too little, too late, my dear! Don't waste my time!" His mom died many years ago. Since then, he had always wanted revenge against Sidell and the Xiang family. And now that he had them in the crosshairs, he wasn't going to let anyone stop him.
Savannah bit her lower lip and said, "Let's leave Dad out of this. Mr. Tang, could you please do me a favor and leave Dollie alone? She's young and has a bright future ahead of her. She has nothing now. So just tell your guys to back off, okay?"
Dollie couldn't help but chime in, "Please, Sheffield? For the sake of my love for you?"
"Leave you alone?" Sheffield lowered his head and looked at his fingers. "Okay, I can do that."
The two women didn't expect him to give in, and they were both ecstatic. But what he said next dashed their hopes against the rocks of reality. "If you bring my mom back to life, then I'll leave you and your father alone. Sound fair?"
The two sisters' smiles froze on their faces and faded.
Sheffield stood up from his seat and looked at Savannah with cold eyes. "Don't try to take advantage of my feelings for Evelyn. She's not part of this! Dollie, when you lied to the authorities about my mom, you became my enemy. No snowflake is innocent in a blizzard. I'm not letting any of you off the hook."
After saying that, the man turned around and left without hesitation, leaving the two sisters sitting in their seats silently.
After a long while, Dollie glared angrily at Savannah. "You and Evelyn are close, right? Why don't you grab her and let her talk to Sheffield?"
Savannah flashed a wry smile. "Didn't you hear what he said? Leave Evelyn out of this. You're just grasping at straws now." Actually, she wanted to call Evelyn when she saw Sheffield. But what he said made her decide otherwise.
"Humph! Seriously, girl? What else can you do besides eat?" Disdain was written all over her face as Dollie looked at the woman in the wheelchair. Remembering Evelyn, she said in a sour tone, "He asked you not to talk to Evelyn. And? Do it anyway. Sheffield loves her. Of course he'll listen to her! I don't care what else you do with your life, but do this for your family."
"Why are you doing this?"
"Because I can!" Dollie spat, rolling her eyes. "Dad raised you. Do something for your family, for once! You and Evelyn are good friends. You are the only one who can do this."
"I won't do it. Evelyn's not involved," Savannah said bitterly and shook her head. Evelyn had helped her a lot. She didn't want to owe her any more favors.
"So you won't do it? You want me to talk to her?" Dollie screamed out in disbelief. "Come on! She's your friend, not mine! Friends help each other out. If she were my friend, I wouldn't have a problem asking her to help. If you don't want her to talk to Sheffield, you can ask her to talk to her father. If Mr. Huo helps us, then we're all good."
All of a sudden, Dollie thought she was a pretty smart cookie. 'That's it! It's perfect. If Mr. Huo helps us, then problems will be solved. After all, he is pretty powerful. Sheffield wouldn't go against him. I come up with the best plan.'
"No way! That will ruin Evelyn and Sheffield's relationship!" 'If Mr. Huo decides to help the Xiang family, that's like turning against Sheffield. If that happens, Sheffield will hate Carlos, ' Savannah thought.
"Listen to you! You don't even want to help, do you? What good are you? Evelyn fucked with my relationship with Sheffield. She drove a wedge between us. And you are still protecting her! You're such a useless, ungrateful brat! So you lost the use of your legs. Big deal. You don't help me, I'll take your eyes and hands too!" Dollie said to her in a cold voice. She might not be able to stand up to Evelyn or Sheffield, but dealing with a disabled person was a piece of cake.
Savannah was aware Dollie was threatening her. Her disability made her easy to bully, so Dollie took advantage of that. But she had no choice. After all, Dollie was her sister. She had to go ask Evelyn for help.
Finally, she moved her lips and said, "I'll do it..."
It took her a long time to call Evelyn. She forced a smile and asked, "Hi, Evelyn, you busy now?"
"Yeah, a little. Why don't we meet around five o'clock?" Those two hadn't been able to talk to each other in a while. Savannah had been abroad, and Evelyn was eager to get together so they could catch up.
"Okay, then. I'll let you get back to it. See you later."
"Okay, bye!"
Sheffield had spent the whole day at the research lab. He knew Evelyn had no time to spare today, so he decided to burn the midnight oil in the lab.
When he went to get a glass of water, he saw several missed calls and tons of text messages, one of which read, "It's Matthew Huo."
'Matthew? My future brother-in-law!'
