With both hands in his pockets, Sheffield leaned against the door and watched as the guards scrambled away obediently. "They have a lot of respect for you. You are really cool, Ms. CEO."
Evelyn turned to look at him and asked in a low voice, "Are you coming or not?" If they didn't leave soon, her father might really change his mind and chase after Sheffield again.
"Yes, Of course! Let's go! We're gonna have so much fun, my little girl."
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "I'm older than you."
"Doesn't matter. I'm your boyfriend." He leaned closer to her body shamelessly.
They were about to reach the Secretary Division and Evelyn pushed him away. "Watch your manners. This is my office," she scolded.
Sheffield moved away at once. "Yes, ma'am!" He put on his sunglasses and pulled back the hood of his coat. Almost no one recognized him now.
"Why do you want to take me shopping suddenly?" she asked, getting into his car.
"Like I said earlier to your father—to buy you a lollipop," he replied with a smile as he fastened the safety belt for her.
"Can you be serious for a moment?" She rolled her eyes again.
"I am serious. I'm really taking you to the supermarket to buy a lollipop." He had a wronged expression on his face, like he was offended that she didn't think the lollipop was important enough.
Evelyn said resignedly, "Fine. Since I am already here with you, take me wherever. It's up to you now."
"For real?"
"Yes."
"Then, let's go to your place, and we—"
"Except that!"
"Fine, let's do it in the car—"
"No!"
"How about a hotel?"
"Sheffield!" She was annoyed. "Knock it off!"
He sighed, feeling defeated. "All right. Let's go and get you a lollipop."
To her surprise, he really did take her to a supermarket.
He grabbed a lollipop from the candy shelf and asked her, "Which flavor? Strawberry? Coconut? Do you like blueberry? What about mango?"
Evelyn looked at the candy aisle and then at the two kids near her. "I don't want any of them."
"No, you must get one. You'll love it, trust me."
"Eating candies will destroy my teeth!" she argued.
"One lollipop won't damage your teeth! Listen to the doctor!" he said, pointing smugly at himself. "You like mango, right?" He grabbed the whole box and led her to the cashier's counter.
"Didn't you say you were gonna buy one?"
"I said you should eat one," he corrected her.
"Then, why did you buy the whole box?"
"The rest is for me."
"The whole box?" He nodded with a naughty grin and she scoffed. He was not only coaxing her as a child, but pampered himself too.
As they stood in line to pay the bill, Sheffield picked up a box of condoms and asked Evelyn casually, "How about we go for this brand tonight?"
Besides the cashier, there were three other people around them. They stared at the box in his hand. Evelyn's face burned with embarrassment as she glared at him. She knew that he was doing it on purpose. She grabbed the box from his hand and put it back where it was. "Shut up!"
"What? You don't want it?" he asked innocently. Then, he leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear, "Do you want to know what it's like without the condom?"
Evelyn pushed him towards the cashier's desk and demanded, "Pay the damn bill."
"Okay, okay!" He took out his wallet and asked Evelyn to wait for him outside while he cleared the bill.
She nodded and left the scene gratefully. The moment she left, he stepped back from the counter and grabbed three boxes before paying the bill.
When he walked out of the supermarket, his coat pockets were stuffed and had a huge bulge. Evelyn touched the pockets curiously and asked, "What's in there?"
As he unwrapped a lollipop for her, he replied, "Something that is gonna make me a happy man."
Evelyn's eyes widened. She had to take a page out of her father's book when it came to dealing with Sheffield. If she stayed cold to him, he might behave.
"Open your mouth, honey." He placed the lollipop near her lips.
Evelyn didn't open her mouth. She stared intently at the man and asked with a feigned smile, "Sheffield, you have a problem with me, don't you?"
"What do you mean?" He was a little confused and looked at the lollipop. 'What did I do? Where is this coming from?' he wondered.
"Why are you cramming me with all these sweets every day? You are trying to make me fat!" she reproached. He often barged into the company in the evenings with desserts, and now, he was trying to feed her more candies.
Sheffield gasped dramatically. "I would never!" She continued to scrutinize him with her glare and he tried to defend himself. "You know how most children like sweets, right?"
She frowned. "I suppose so..." She seldom got along with kids and never paid much attention to their needs. But what did that have to do with her?
He pinched her cheeks, so she was forced to open her mouth. He put the lollipop into her mouth and said, "So, I figured my little girl would like them too."
The mango flavor spread throughout her mouth. It was deliciously sweet, but Evelyn was a bit disappointed. "You think of me as a child?"
"You are realizing that just now?" he asked, grinning. 'Loving a woman means spoiling her like a child, right?' Evelyn was the little girl he wanted to dote on.
She furrowed her brows at him. Her personality was not cute or childish, and she did not look like a child either.
"Is that so?" Evelyn asked, thinking of a way to get back at him.
"What?" He put a lollipop in his mouth and wrapped his hand around her waist.
"I'm sure that your many women envy my good figure. They must have put you up to this, to ruin my figure." Even as she said it, she knew how bizarre it sounded.
Sheffield burst out laughing. He was amused by her serious tone. 'She is so darn cute! This woman would be the death of me!' "Rest assured, Evelyn. No matter how many desserts you eat, you won't get fat as long as you are with me."
"And why is that?"
"Because I know how to make you lose all those extra calories, honey. Why don't you move in with me and find out all about the exercise schedule I have planned for you?" he asked with a confident smirk on his face.
Evelyn turned beetroot red. 'He is talking about sex again! Is that the only thing on his mind? Geez!'
"Sheffield!" she called, staring into his eyes.
"Yes?" Puzzled, he looked back into her eyes, trying to figure out if she was angry. As he was about to coax her, she said, "I'm allergic to mangoes." Saying so, she looked away from him.
Sheffield's smile vanished. He savored the lollipop in his mouth and confirmed that it was mango.
Evelyn was allergic to cats too. Since she said that she was allergic to mangoes, he didn't doubt her words.
He reached out to take the lollipop out of her mouth. "Spit it out!" he said anxiously. "I'm sorry, Evelyn. It's my fault. I'll take you to the hospital right away."
Evelyn gritted her teeth, unwilling to let him take the lollipop out. She stood there and watched him worry about her.
"Evelyn, be a good girl. Spit it out," he coaxed her gently as if he were talking to a child, but she refused to open her mouth.
