Evelyn looked at the bouquet of baby's breath.
"Your first love? Really?" she asked sarcastically. Many people had sent her flowers, but they were all expensive roses or lilies. It was her first time receiving baby's breath.
Sheffield always gave her something different from others.
Sheffield was embarrassed by her question. "Please take the bouquet. People are watching."
"You came here to give me flowers?" She didn't budge.
"I… No, there's something else..." Sheffield smiled at her, eyes gleaming with admiration.
His Evelyn was so pretty every time he saw her. Even though she remained expressionless, she still looked so damn beautiful!
"What is it?"
Sheffield looked at the flowers in his hand. In a gloomy tone, he asked, "Don't you like baby's breath? In flower language, it means yearning, care and true love. Evelyn, please take it. Otherwise, I'll be really embarrassed."
With his puppy-dog eyes, the man looked kind of… cute.
Finally, Evelyn took the flowers.
He grabbed her wrist in his excitement and took her to his car.
"Where are you taking me?"
He tilted his head and gave her a mysterious smile. "I want to show you something."
Confused, Evelyn followed him to the red convertible. He opened the back door and tucked her inside. He then got in the back seat too.
Sheffield took out the remote control and closed the roof.
When they were in their private space, he lifted his woolen sweater and showed her his bare chest.
Evelyn's mouth hung open.
There were two black letters on his muscular chest—EH.
It didn't take her long to ascertain what it meant.
EH—Evelyn Huo.
Still clutching on to the hem of his sweater, Sheffield kissed her forehead and asked, "Do you like it? I just had it tattooed. My hospital doesn't allow the doctors to have tattoos. Otherwise, I would have got your name tattooed on my ring finger."
"I don't like men with tattoos." She wasn't lying. She liked men who looked clean.
Sheffield's face fell immediately. He knew that he had screwed up again. He loosened his grip on the sweater and straightened his clothes to cover the tattoo.
He ran his fingers through his short hair. "Well, it doesn't matter. I'll get rid of it later."
Evelyn sighed inwardly. He could be so naive and foolish sometimes. She smiled helplessly.
Her smile, like a blossom in the spring, stunned Sheffield, melting his heart.
His heart beat faster every time he saw Evelyn. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Even if she didn't speak or show any emotions, she was still able to draw his attention. And her smile made him lose control of himself. He was falling in love with her all over again.
Sheffield held her close and propped his chin against her head.
"Evelyn, don't give me back what I gave you. Don't try to get rid of me."
Evelyn sighed helplessly. "Sheffield..."
Her gentle voice was so pleasant to his ears, and it struck a chord in his heart. "Yes?" he responded tenderly.
"I'm dating Joshua."
"I know." After a pause, he added, "I don't care. You can date him, but I will be your man."
She asked in a cold voice, "Are you asking me to be a two-timer like you?"
"What? No, no. Evelyn, listen to me. I never liked Dollie. Just give me a little more time. I'll get rid of her." Everything he said to her was true.
"You said that you didn't like girls who are more childish than you are, right? But Dollie is young. Aren't you ashamed of going back on your own words?" As far as she knew, Dollie was in her early twenties, a few years younger than Sheffield.
"No, I am not, because I don't like her at all."
"Oh, really? You are so good at this, Dr. Tang. If you continue to put your feet in two boats, both boats will turn over one day and you'll drown," Evelyn snorted.
"It's okay. I can swim and save myself. And I'll save you too. Rest assured, I won't be going for Dollie."
His words and his playful expression made Evelyn want to laugh. "You have a silver tongue," she reprimanded.
Sheffield clicked his tongue. "You know my tongue so well. You do enjoy our little kisses very much," he teased.
Evelyn blushed. How she wished she could punch this brazen man to a pulp. "Do you sweet-talk to Dollie in this way as well?"
"Absolutely not. I swear!" Sheffield looked at her seriously and reached out his fingers to swear to God.
"Whatever. Can I go now?" She was not a teenage girl; she wouldn't easily believe his sweet words.
"If you agree to be my girlfriend, I will never talk to Dollie again." He held her tight in his arms.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I can't agree to that. I have a boyfriend now."
Sheffield grinned. "But your boyfriend doesn't like you."
"I like him. That's enough."
He looked at the woman in displeasure, and swiftly kissed on her ruby red lips angrily.
It was completely quiet inside the car.
After a long while, Sheffield broke the kiss and whispered in her ear, "Don't say that again. I don't want to hear it."
Evelyn leaned against his chest, gasping for air. She could feel how much he wanted her every time they kissed.
"You haven't had lunch, right? Let's dine together," he added.
"No," she refused. She sat up and gave the bunch of baby's breath back to him. "Take your flowers and go away."
Sheffield pouted. "I bought it for you. Even if you don't want to have lunch with me, at least keep the flowers. Please? It's just a bunch of flowers, Evelyn..."
He moved towards her a little and accidentally touched her phone. The screen lit up.
Sheffield clearly saw the picture on her lock screen.
"Who is the man in the picture? He's quite handsome," he asked her in a jealous tone.
Without even casting a glance at her phone, Evelyn answered casually, "The man I love the most in the world."
"Oh, I see... So, you're dating several men at the same time. Another boyfriend, huh?"
Evelyn wanted to explain, but decided against it.
She was confused. 'Doesn't he know whose daughter I am? Or does Sheffield not even know who Carlos Huo is?'
He reached his hand into his pocket and took something out. Then, he balled his fist and showed it to her. "Eve, give me your phone number. I'll give you something in return."
"No! I don't want anything from you."
Ever since he had met her, Sheffield had tried every means to get her phone number, but failed each time. "Just give me your number. I'll be your chauffeur for a month, for free!"
Evelyn smirked. "Okay. One, three, nine..."
He pricked up his ears, listening carefully.
"Seven, ate, nine!" she added, giggling.
Frustrated, Sheffield tried to make up excuses. "It was Joshua who wanted your number," he said listlessly.
