Chapter 492: Skyart, I’m Back

When she woke up the next morning, Pei Ziheng had already left.
Xia Ling got up and went downstairs, only to find that Nanny Zhou was quietly shedding tears.
Xia Ling asked, “Nanny Zhou, what’s wrong?”
When Nanny Zhou saw Xia Ling, her tears came gushing down. It took her a while to be able to talk between sniffles, “Madam, are you leaving Mister? How could you leave him at such a difficult time? Shouldn’t husband and wife go through tough times together?”
Xia Ling was stunned. What was this all about?
She knew that Li Lei would force Pei Ziheng to release her, but how would Nanny Zhou, a servant, know about her leaving? Unless…
“What did Pei Ziheng tell you?” Her voice trembled.
“Mister said, when you’re up, the chauffeur will send you to Skyart where Mr. Li is,” Nanny Zhou said between tears. “He even packed your things personally, and insisted that I made sure you brought them along.”
Pei Ziheng was willing to let her go?!
Xia Ling’s mind was a blank, and it took her a few moments to return to her senses. It still seemed too unreal. She had worked so hard to escape this cage, and when she was about to lose all hope, he actually decided to release her.
She stood rooted to the ground, unable to process her emotions.
No wonder he was acting so weirdly the night before, he must have had made his decision by then. She recalled the sadness in his eyes the previous night.
“Madam, don’t leave, will you?” Nanny Zhou looked at her expectantly. “Mister loves you so much and gives you his all. You don’t know that he… he…” Nanny Zhou burst into tears again and could not go on.
The night before he fetched Xia Ling, Pei Ziheng’s mood was already low. Refusing to eat, he sat in the study room for the whole night.
The next day when he went downstairs, Nanny Zhou pointed a finger at him in shock. “Mister, you…!”
He did not know what had happened until he took a look in the mirror. That was when he noticed the amount of white hair that lined his head, and began slowly picking at it.
He looked at himself in the mirror for a long time.
He then turned around and told Nanny Zhou, “Bring me the hair dye.” He was about to fetch Xiao Ling that night, how could he let her see him in such a state? He paused before adding, “Don’t let Madam know about this.”
Hence, Nanny Zhou decided to wipe her tears away and swallow her words instead.
“Madam, please stay with Mister.” She was practically pleading her. “Madam, I know he’s let you down and has not taken good care of the child. But, Mister doesn’t have it easy as well, and he really loves you!”
Xia Ling was miserable too. Thinking back about how she and Pei Ziheng had been through thick and thin together over the years, tears welled up in her eyes as well.
Even so, she stood her ground.
Li Lei was still waiting for her at Skyart Entertainment, and he was the one that she truly wanted to spend the rest of her life with. She closed her eyes for a while, and when she reopened them, her voice was void of emotions. “Where’s the chauffeur, get him to send me away.”
Nanny Zhou did not manage to persuade her and continued crying as she walked Xia Ling to the car.
At the car, Nanny Zhou handed her a briefcase. “Madam, you have to take this along with you. Mister prepared this.”
Xia Ling did not know what it contained and wanted to decline it.
Nanny Zhou’s tears came again. “If you don’t accept it, Mister will be even more hurt. Please, please don’t hurt him any further.”
Hence, Xia Ling bit her lip and swallowed her words of rejection.
The Rolls-Royce took her to Skyart Entertainment.
Xia Ling looked up at the tall building through the car window. At that moment, everything felt so foreign.
“Madam, I can’t send you any further.” The chauffeur was suppressing his unhappiness towards her. If not for Mister’s orders that they were not to be rude to her, how could he still bring himself to address her as “Madam”? For a wretched woman who abandoned her husband when he was facing a rough patch, she did not deserve to be addressed so politely!
The servants did not know about the past disputes between her and Pei Ziheng and thought that she was a materialistic and ungrateful woman who was returning to her old flame’s embrace once Imperial Entertainment was facing trouble. Some even thought that she had been staying by Pei Ziheng’s side to plot against him.
Poor Mister remained devoted to her and even decided to let her go when he was no longer able to provide her the luxuries of life.
It took the chauffeur immense effort to keep all these words in.
Xia Ling put on her shades before alighting from the car with her travel briefcase.
Now that she stood before the main entrance of Skyart Entertainment, apprehension crept up on her.
She walked in anyway.
It was bustling in the main lobby, and celebrities being accompanied by their managers, assistants and the like were a common sight. She was petite in stature and had a pastel green top on. In the crowd, she was so unnoticeable, especially because she had her shades on.
She orientated herself in the lobby and approached the receptionist.
“Good morning, how can I help you?” The receptionist was polite and warm.
Xia Ling said, “Could you help me get Li Lei?” She was released by Pei Ziheng, but he had not given her a cellphone before she left. There was no way she could contact Li Lei, and she did not even know if he was currently in the office.
The receptionist looked at her for a while, finding it rather strange as it was uncommon for people to ask for the Boss the moment they came. She asked Xia Ling, “Miss, may I have your name, please? Do you have an appointment with him?”
Xia Ling replied, “I don’t have an appointment, I’m—” She was about to give her name but remembered the news about her infidelity that had been going around recently. Would it look bad on Li Lei if she looked for him so openly? But she missed him too much to delay meeting him any more.
“Is he in the office today?” She changed the topic.
The receptionist was taken aback by her directness. “You don’t have an appointment? I’m sorry, but I cannot tell you whether Boss is in the office today.”
Xia Ling felt a surge of urgency.
She thought for a while and decided to just go for it. “I’m Ye Xingling. Please give Li Lei a call and let him know who I am. He’ll see me.”
“Ye Xingling?!” The receptionist was stunned. Who would’ve expected to see her here—the news had been going on about Big Boss’ conflict with Chairman Pei, and she was the reason behind all these?!
Her voice had reached several pitches higher out of shock.
In that instant, several people had turned their heads toward them.
Xia Ling furrowed her brows. Not wanting to be surrounded by the others, she hurried the receptionist. “Please, help me give Li Lei a call.”
“Oh, right, sure.” If it were Ye Xingling, Boss might really be willing to see her.
The inner tattletale in the receptionist was more than eager to verify the news she had been reading and immediately made the call to the chairman’s office.
