Xia Ling didn’t expect Nangong Qingya to react this way.
She was going to go back on her word just like that? Xia Ling was unhappy. “Can you have some integrity? You owe me the money.” It seemed like the debtor wasn’t the one having a hard time.
The other employees around gave unfriendly looks as well.
Nangong Qingya was the one who caused this conflict to begin with. She even made it public to prevent Xia Ling from going back on her word if she were to lose the bet. And now, Nangong Qingya was the one who had lost the bet and was unwilling to pay up. It seemed like Miss Nangong’s integrity and principles were only worth 30 billion yuan…
No, that wasn’t right.
The employees thought they must have been brainwashed by Miss Ye and the man beside her. How could they possibly have thought that it was “only worth” 30 billion yuan as if that wasn’t a big sum?
They felt sorry for Miss Nangong for provoking the wrong people.
Meanwhile, Xia Ling was still pouring her grievances out to Xia Moyan. “It’s all your fault, why did you interrupt us? I was so close to getting 30 billion yuan. Why did you get her to compensate for emotional damage, does it look like she can afford it? The 30 billion yuan would’ve been enough to drain her of her family assets, and now she won’t even pay up.”
Xia Moyan felt wrongly accused. “Well, the interest of your liquid assets already make up 10 billion yuan.”
The employees and Nangong Qingya were shocked. What did this man just say? 10 billion yuan made up her liquid assets… but only its interest?!
Everybody’s jaw dropped.
Xia Ling asked out of curiosity, “So, how much are my liquid assets?”
Xia Moyan said, “I don’t remember, but you’ll never finish spending it. I just rounded the figures off, you have got a lot more interest amounts from various avenues elsewhere.”
The others were giddy from this new information. Calling them nouveau riches would be an understatement.
This was too pompous!
They were curious as well. If there were 10 billion yuan in her card, who was it from? Did he give it to her? Everybody wondered what relationship they shared and how he could be so generous toward her.
Nangong Qingya had a look of disbelief. How could a man possibly give a woman that much money to spend?
“Impossible, this is impossible…” Nangong Qingya shook her head.
Ten billion yuan would definitely turn she and her sisters against one another. Meanwhile, this amount was not enough for this woman before her?
“Drop your act, Ye Xingling.” Nangong Qingya said, “I don’t care if you really have 10 billion yuan, neither do I care how this man is related to you. In any case, I’m not giving you that 30 billion yuan. Anyway, don’t you love acting rich? If you continue asking for money, I’m afraid your pretense will fall through.”
Xia Ling smiled. “I don’t think there’s a conflict between my wealth and my rights to demand what I deserve. Even if it’s a piece of meat, I get to decide whether I want to feed the dog. It can’t be up to the dog, am I right?”
One of the employees burst out laughing accidentally. This was an amazing metaphor, it was probably the first time Miss Nangong had ever been referred to as a dog. But that was exactly how she was acting. Not only was she going back on her word, but she was also being unreasonable with her justification.
Nangong Qingya felt humiliated hearing the employee’s laughter and flew into a rage. “Ye Xingling, watch your words! You’re a brute alright, you don’t even have basic manners!”
Xia Moyan’s expression darkened before Xia Ling even retorted that statement.
Who dared to call his sister a brute?
Xiao Ling had led a tough life since she was born. She had to bear the curse of the family, live two lives of hardship, and was unable to reunite with her biological father and brother. As a Xia descendant, he had always felt guilty towards her. He was unable to watch her grow up nor protect her, and now, he had to hear someone insult her?
All of these wasn’t even Xiao Ling’s fault.
Moreover, she was an extraordinary girl with a kind heart, how could someone speak of her this way?
He looked at Nangong Qingya with a gaze that could kill. “Basic manners? Well, Miss Nangong is about to lose it very soon.”
Nangong Qingya was shocked. “What does that mean?”
This cold and calm-looking man sent a chill down her spine. She felt vulnerable and defenseless against him.
She found this man intimidating, but she simply could not give in. Feigning arrogance, she looked him straight in the eye. The Nangong family was a powerful one, after all, this man couldn’t do anything to her.
Xia Moyan did not say anything more. He told Xia Ling, “Let’s go.”
Xia Ling muttered, “My 30 billion yuan.”
Xia Moyan wanted to grin at that statement. This silly girl was such a money-face.
“You’ll receive every single cent of it — the 30 billion yuan, as well as the compensation for emotional damage.” Xia Moyan held her hand and led her out. “With me around, what’s there to worry about?”
“I’m worried that you can’t care less about this little money.” Xia Ling felt slightly aggrieved.
They were walking out slowly, but their conversation was still audible. What did they mean by “this little money”? The land of the rich was really impossible to understand.
“Oh, right.” Xia Moyan turned around and handed a card to an employee. “All her spendings will be on my tab. Once the clothes are packaged and ready, send it to this address.” He took a piece of paper and penned down an address in beautiful cursive.
The employees had not snapped back to their senses and agreed distractedly.
Xia Ling waited outside the store for her brother. “I told you not to pay for those, why did you?”
It didn’t feel right for him to be doing this.
Xia Moyan kept his calm demeanor. “Is that important?”
“It’s very important! How am I supposed to wear those?!” She couldn’t bear to think of wearing a sensual piece of undergarment that was gifted by her brother… it was just odd.
“Will you even wear it?”
Xia Ling was at a loss for words. He was right, even if it wasn’t from him, she probably wouldn’t want to touch anything that she had obtained by fighting with someone else over it. “Forget it.” she shrugged and let out a long sigh. “I want ice-cream, help me get some.”
Xia Moyan took a pair of sunglasses out from her pocket and put it on for her. “You’re still thinking about ice-cream at this time?” This silly girl didn’t even remember to disguise herself in public. She was a little Diva now and more popular than ever. It’d be all too easy for anyone on the streets to recognize her.
