Chapter 884: The Criminal Records

Xia Ling was stunned and couldn’t speak for a long time.
She could accept her own reincarnation but didn’t think that there would be something else that was even more unfathomable. What was Wei Lingnan? This was out of the world.
She stared at her brother. “You mean to say that that person from four hundred years ago is really Wei Lingnan?”
Xia Moyan replied, “Yes. Our ancestors asked for his name, and he said that it was ‘Wei Lingnan,’ but it was clear as day that that was merely the street name on the road sign. Nobody truly knows his real name. He’s different… our ancestors tried to set up an altar to figure out who he was but to no avail.
“Information on Wei Lingnan is a complete blank.
“There are only two possibilities: first, his identity is more superior as compared to that of our ancestors, or second, he’s attained a much higher level of enlightenment in the art of prophecy. I think this is highly unlikely because the Xia Family is already renowned as the most enlightened in the world. The other possibility is that he’s not from this world… hence, traces of his destiny are not found in this world.”
Xia Ling breathed in deeply, murmuring, “He’s really an alien?”
Xia Moyan said, “Our ancestors suspected that he might be from the outer world, or what we call outer space. He could also be from three other places: Hell, the Yellow River, or Three Mountain Ridges… But who knows? We don’t even know if these places truly exist. In any case, he’s caught the attention of our ancestors, and ever since that coincidental meeting, our ancestors have been watching him. After realizing that he’d kidnap humans to dissect and analyze them, our ancestors had considered ridding the world of him. In other words, they wanted to kill him for the greater good.”
The Xia Family believed strongly in the laws of destiny, and would rarely interfere in the atrocities of the world. However, Wei Lingnan was different… he was not of this world. Hence, the Xia Family felt that they had a responsibility to protect the other living beings in the world from being killed by a being from the outer world.
Xia Ling asked, “Then, why wasn’t he killed later on?”
Xia Moyan said, “Our ancestors sent our best forces to launch a stealth attack, but they didn’t manage to harm Wei Lingnan. Wei Lingnan didn’t launch a counterattack on the Xia Family for whatever reason. He told our ancestors, ‘I don’t want to be enemies with you. I just want a place to stay. But if you choose to anger me, I don’t mind destroying the world alongside your family.’”
“How arrogant!” Xia Ling said angrily. “Destroy the world? What rubbish is he talking about?!”
Xia Moyan asked, “What do you think of the Wei Family’s technological prowess?”
Xia Ling was taken aback but recalled Wei Shaoyin telling her that if the Wei Family’s weapons of chemical warfare or contagion warfare were to be released, it could destroy the world several hundred times over.
Xia Moyan looked at her pointedly and said, “He had the same ability four hundred years ago. As a warning, he created a plague in a small village, and the entire village perished overnight. Our ancestors tried to save them by sending in skilled doctors, but none o the doctors could diagnose the plague or find a cure.”
“He’s crazy!” Xia Ling said.
Xia Moyan continued, “We postulated that he would have to pay some sort of price every time he killed someone on Earth. Hence, he wouldn’t do so unless provoked. After that plague, he didn’t launch any other attack for many years. Other than looking for human specimens for his experiment, he wouldn’t harm humans unnecessarily.”
Xia Ling remarked in a fury. “But using human specimens for his experiments is already a crime that he should be punished harshly for!”
Xia Moyan’s gaze was pensive as he stared up into the sky. “There are many things in the world that are beyond our understanding, and we are but a small cog within the universe. Perhaps to the upper beings, humans are like the birds in the sky or any other animal on Earth. We are just bigger than the ants on the ground, that’s all. Do you think that the upper beings will care for the death of an ant? No, they won’t.”
Xia Ling stared at her brother, confused.
Xia Moyan said, “If you follow the history of the Wei Family, you’ll realize that they’ve done more charitable words than any other family. Wei Lingnan will compensate the world through charitable works as much as he’s killed people in his experimental labs. He has done a lot to protect the flora and fauna in the world, build roads and infrastructure, send food to refugees in Africa… Oh right, he’s also a Peace Ambassador for the United Nations. The upper beings only want balance in the universe, and hence, appeared to have let him be.”
Xia Ling’s mouth was agape in shock. “What rubbish of an upper being would allow this?”
Xia Moyan gave a bitter smile. “Did you think I was joking when I said that all living creatures are like ants? Xiao Ling, don’t curse the heavens… You’re someone that has received blessings beyond measure already. If not for the protection of the upper beings such that Wei Lingnan daren’t touch the Xia Family Phoenix, do you think you’d still be alive?”
Xia Ling’s thoughts moved away from the heavens to herself. “So… Wei Lingnan wants to capture me?” She asked.
“Mmhmm.” Xia Moyan responded. She pushed aside her uneasy feelings and followed her brother towards the main housing quarters.
They heard the sound of crying when they passed the main hall.
“What’s going on?” Xia Ling asked her brother.
Xia Moyan glanced over at her and said, “Xia Shujuan didn’t do a good job of supervising Xia Yu. She’s getting punished right now. We couldn’t take any action against her when she abused and abandoned you due to it being related to your destiny, so we are giving her double the punishment right now.” He had to take revenge after finally getting a chance to after so many years.
Looking at the grand main hall under the sunlight, Xia Ling suddenly felt that Wei Lingnan wasn’t so scary, after all. She had her family, and many other people protecting her. What was there to be afraid of?
While Xia Shujuan was being punished, a decision was also being made on Xia Yu’s punishment.
Since she’d sought refuge with Wei Lingnan, then she couldn’t return to the family village. The Xia Family didn’t want Wei Lingnan’s reach to extend within the confines of the village, and couldn’t take any risks that might lead to that end. Xia Yu was to be exiled permanently, never to step foot in the village ever again. Her name would also be written in the Xia Family’s “Criminal Records.”
Only villagers who had committed grave offenses had their names written in the Criminal Records.
“What’s the purpose of the ‘Criminal Records’?” Xia Ling asked her brother.
Xia Moyan responded, “We’ve always stored the Criminal Records in the location with the worst possible luck. Any name written in the book will experience retribution all their lives for their wrongdoings. For someone like Xia Yu, who is still alive, she’ll get immediate retribution.”
Immediate retribution!
She deserves it!
Xia Ling was suddenly keen to find out what retribution Xia Yu would face.
In S City, in a bungalow district.
Xia Yu was dressed in a pale pink dress as she lifted her hand to knock on Pei Ziheng’s door.
Nanny Zhou came to open the door and stared at her in shock. “Miss Xia Yu? Why are you here today?” Ever since Xia Yu fell out of favor with Pei Ziheng and disappeared, she never appeared in the bungalow district. Pei Ziheng’s attitude towards her now was no different from how he treated any normal artiste in the company.
