After she had hung up the phone, Sally recalled her last visit to the prison. She had asked Gerald about
the bullets, but Gerald had told her that he had signed too many documents and that it was impossible
for him to remember everything.
Both the gun and the bullets were taken by Dad. He was the one who signed the slip. How does one
simply forget something like this?
Nonetheless, Sally refused to believe that Gerald would kill Ethan.
Just as Sally was lost in a daze, her phone rang again.
“Sally, Cooper's with me.”
Upon hearing Stefan's voice, Sally instantly regained her senses. “Where are you? Did you kidnap
Cooper?”
To her dismay, Stefan ended the call without another word.
Panicked, Sally quickly called Stefan's number, but no one picked up.
Stefan had never liked Cooper because Sally had married him to save the Loake family. Worried that
her brother would do something to harm Cooper, Sally immediately rang Steven.
To her surprise, Steven was already in Jadeborough.
Within minutes of waiting, Steven returned. With a solemn expression, he pulled Sally to the side. “We
found the person who previously kidnapped Mandy,” Steven announced.
Usually, Steven only had to convey such news to Cooper, and the men would get it sorted. It was out of
the norm for Steven to inform Sally about the case.
It didn't take long for Sally to piece together the clues and figure out the culprit. Her expression
darkened as she let out a low hiss. “Stefo has kidnapped Cooper. Look after the kids. I'll go to Baykeep
right away.”
Steven was taken aback by the sudden news. “No wonder all my calls to Cooper kept ending up in
voicemail. He went on a business trip to Xedells, so I thought he was just busy.”
Sally did not stay and chat. After leaving Steven with instructions, she left.
Approximately half an hour later, Sally arrived at Baykeep on a helicopter. Upon landing, she gave
Stefan another call.
This time, Stefan picked up.
“I've reached Baykeep. Where are you, Stefo?” Sally's tone was ice-cold. “Cooper is not an enemy to
the Loake family. Do not act rashly.”
“I'm at the hotel where you guys previously stayed in,” Stefan stated.
Sally hurried over to the hotel and dashed to the topmost floor of the building. Reining in her temper,
she banged on the door of the presidential suite forcefully.
The door was opened immediately.
Stefan was wearing a plain hoody. The short hair above his forehead was slightly ruffled. Paired with
his broad shoulders and long legs, the outfit made him look young.
Before Stefan could even speak, Sally raised her hand and slapped him harshly across the cheek. Her
expression was dark. “Marrying Cooper was my decision. Didn't I ask you not to meddle in my
business? Do you understand how important Mandy is to Cooper? You almost killed a five-year-old!”
If it weren't for the fact that Stefan was her brother and that Gerald had always advised her to take care
of Stefan, Sally would not hesitate to give him more than just a slap.
Feeling the throbbing on his cheek, Stefan turned his head to face Sally without uttering a word before
opening the door wider to let her in.
With just a glance, Sally realized that Cooper was not in the living room. When she noticed that one of
the room doors was shut, she immediately assumed that he was in there.
Just as she stepped toward the door, she felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck.
Sally was an agile woman. Plenty of people had tried to ambush her before, but none of them had
succeeded.
Since the person standing behind her was her own brother, Sally had let down her guard. Never would
she have suspected Stefan would lay a hand on her.
Due to the element of surprise, Sally did not have enough time to react. Her vision began to blur, and
then it was all dark.
The next thing she knew, she was waking up on a bed. Her arms and legs were not tied up, but it felt
as though all the energy inside her body had been drained out. Each breath she took was proving to be
a challenge.
Sally realized that she had been injected with a low dose of anesthetics, causing her to go limp.
Although conscious, she could not move her body.
Hearing some noise, Sally summoned all the strength she could muster to turn her head in the direction
of the sound. She saw Cooper leaning against the wall, unconscious. Stefan was squatting in front of
him and inserting a needle under the latter's skin.
“Stefan.” Unable to breathe properly, even her voice was weak. “Are you done with this madness?”
Chastising herself for being naïve enough to think that family wouldn't harm each other, she regretted
letting her guard down in front of Stefan.
