Chapter 1268
It was obvious that John had not given up on Sherry. From that day onward, Sylvia always made sure t
o instruct Jacob to take another route every
time she went to Sherry. She took special care to avoid heading down the route where she
saw John‘s men last time.
The days passed by without trouble.
Eventually, Sherry was discharged from the hospital and went to a confinement center near the hospital
.
One particular morning, Sylvia took a car to the confinement center as usual. However, the traffic was s
ignificantly worse today since there was a newly opened shopping mall in the area. There were a lot of
cars on the road and traffic was heavy.
They were only two hundred meters away from the confinement center, and traffic was at a standstill.
After waiting more than ten minutes without moving even an inch, she lost her patience and decided th
at it would be easier to get out of the car and walk to the confinement center. She stepped out of the ca
r with a set of new clothes she had bought for Sherry‘s baby in tow.
Meanwhile, there were several men dressed
casually and walking along the roadside. From time to time, they
would glance at the heavily congested road.
It was now nearing the tail end of the summer, and fall would be soon approaching. Despite that, the w
eather was still rather hot and dry. They began to sweat after only a short walk.
One of them wiped away the sweat pooled on his forehead and remarked, “We‘ve been patrolling this a
rea for more than twenty days by
this point, and we‘ve gone to every single hotel and residential area without finding any signs of Miss S
herry. Hell, we haven‘t even seen anyone who remotely resembles her. This area must be a dead end.”
“It‘s Master Stockton‘s direct orders, so who are we to oppose him? Just
do the job you‘re paid to do.” “But what if we never find her? Will Master
Stockton blame us for not doing our job well?”
“Let‘s do our best… Huh? Isn‘t that Mrs. Carter?”
One
of the men spotted a familiar figure from the corner of his eye and immediately brought everyone‘s atte
ntion to a person on the sidewalk. Two of his partners quickly pulled him around a corner on the street
where they could safely spy on
the said person without drawing attention. After observing the figure for a while, a smile began to form o
n their faces.
“It is Mrs. Carter, I recognize her. Let‘s follow her.”
“Be careful. Don‘t let her see us.”
“Got it.”
With that, they began their mission and tailed Sylvia until they reached the confinement center.
Downtown Glanchester, in Stockton Tower, an important board of directors meeting was underway.
Seated at the head of the conference table was John in a tailored suit. He sat in a princely manner and
was toying
around with a pen in one hand while listening to the reports relayed to him by the members of the senio
r management team.
Suddenly , Peter stepped into the conference room and quickly approached him. He bent down and
carefully whispered in his ear, “Sir, there‘s news from Westchester.
Clack!
The pen John was toying with fell on the table. The directors who were in the middle of their
presentation paused and looked at him.
John straightened his expression and informed
them with a swift smile, “There‘s something I need to deal with.
The meeting is postponed, and we will pick up where we left off after I come back.” With that, he rose an
Peter followed him closely and promptly informed him after they stepped out
of the conference room, “This morning, the men that I appointed to locate Mrs. Sherry at Westchester ha
city center. They figured that she must have decided to travel on foot to avoid having to sit through the
hectic traffic. They carefully followed her until she entered a confinement center.”
A confinement center?
Something flashed in John‘s eyes, and he urged Peter to continue, “And then?”
Peter relayed accordingly, “The confinement center has very strict security protocols, so our men could n
when they finally saw Mrs. Carter
emerge. They said that she was carrying a large bag that seemed to contain clothes when she entered,
to drop off some gifts.”
She went to a confinement center to see someone?
The only time someone would go to the confinement center to visit someone was if the latter was a moth
John thought about it intently. He remembered the scene roughly
twenty days ago when Sylvia had received a call and suddenly left the house in a hurry, only to return th
day after. A sharp look appeared in his eyes. He immediately beelined
for the elevator while giving orders to Peter who was
following him, “Tell them to keep an eye on the confinement center. I will be right there.”
“Yes, sir.” A thought suddenly occurred to Peter, and he cautiously informed John, “But, sir, the meeting…
We‘ll decide when I get back.”
