Chapter 1615: Neither could he afford to win or lose.

Just as the two were discussing how to save the company, Auntie Zhang went upstairs hastily and knocked on her door. “Young master’s wife, someone came looking for you.”

Pei Ge frowned slightly. She had not been home for long, yet someone was already looking for her.

He pressed her knees and spoke in a deep but strong voice. “I got it. Ask him to wait in the guest room on the first floor.”

Only then did Auntie Zhang realize that the man was in the room, causing her to be taken aback. She did not sound very polite earlier, and if he were to pursue the matter, she would suffer.

“Alright, young master; I’ll bring him over.”

She shivered and quickly fled from the place before he could say anything in response. If she were to be mocked or fired by him for being slightly disrespectful to Pei Ge, she would not be able to survive in the capital.

“Auntie Zhang is quite discerning.”

His lips curled.

“I told her not to address me as your wife, but it’s to no avail, so I just let her do so.”

“What’s there to be afraid of? I think it’s really good.”

He chuckled as he turned to plant a kiss on her lips gently.

The kiss was akin to a dragonfly skimming the surface of water even as he declared his rights.

“Let’s go downstairs and see who’s here to visit you. They actually came all the way to my house just to look for my wife.”

He stood up and his tall build cast a long shadow on the floor, seemingly encompassing the woman in it.

“Okay.”

She nodded and stood up, too. Her light green shirt made her look delicate and her complexion fairer. Even without makeup, she was a beauty that could leave a lasting impression to others.

She hooked her arm around Ji Ziming’s arm, and together, they went to the visitor.

Qu Xiujie was reading a book from a bookshelf in the guest room. Most of the books were written by well-known authors in finance and economics; there were also classics which could no longer be found on the market.

“Mr. Qu, we’ve met again.”

Ji Ziming’s voice was all smiles, but it was not evident on his face.

As such, Qu Xiujie could not help but suspect if he was too skilled in pretending or this was his true self. However, when he saw the woman beside the man, he no longer thought much about it.

Her brows, lips, and even her forehead bore an uncanny resemblance to the woman in his memory. That person should be around his age or even older by several years.

“Are you Pei Ge?”

No longer caring about Ji Ziming, his eyes showed shock and some happiness, as well as excitement.

The man looked at him suspiciously as it was rare for someone to care about his wife. Moreover, this person was a Qu, and he already had one member of that family here. He could not help but suspect that there were shady secrets between the two families, causing the Qus to send one after another of its family members to his family.

“I am, and you are?”

Pei Ge nodded, and although she was shocked about the guy’s intense stare on her, her suspicion was quickly overridden by rationality. She showed a polite smile. “Sir, I still don’t know who you are.”

“Let me introduce him, then. This is Mr. Qu Xiujie.” Ji Ziming held her hand as he spoke to the visitor. “Mr. Qu, this is my wife, Pei Ge.”

“I know.”

When Qu Xiujie said this, his eyes were still on Pei Ge. Seeing her right before his eyes brought back memories of that woman and even their way of speaking was so similar.

“It’s quite impolite for you to be staring at my wife like this.”

Despite sounding amused, the man was emitting a frosty aura, which forced Qu Xiujie to look at him. He then said apologetically, “Sir, please don’t be mistaken. I don’t harbor any thoughts regarding your wife, and I’m merely here to check something.”

He took two steps backward as he tried to show that he had no notions regarding Pei Ge. He also wished that Ji Ziming would not think too poorly of him.

“If I don’t remember wrongly, you’re looking at my wife the same way you did when you first saw her on the road today. How should I believe that your family isn’t plotting against her?”

Ji Ziming’s lips curled. It was this guy who sought them, so he could not be blamed for speculating.

“Mr. Ji, you’re mistaken. As I said, I don’t mean your wife any harm. Also, although my surname is Qu and Qu Hanlin’s blood flows within me, please believe that I’m not the same person as he is.”

Seeing the threat in the man’s dark eyes, Qu Xiujie was reminded of who he was.

He was someone who could cause the capital to catch a cold if he so much as sneezed. Nobody dared to trifle with him.

Ji Ziming’s eyes were beyond frosty at this moment; ever since he returned the other day, he had kept a lookout. However, since the information He Yun found was exactly as what this guy said, he was unsure whether to believe him or not.

However, he dared not gamble with Pei Ge’s life on the line and did not want to expose her to danger.

Neither could he afford to win or lose.

“Mr. Ji, I don’t mean any harm by coming today. I’m merely here to look at your wife. She looks very similar to someone I know. Although I may not see or meet her ever again, I don’t have any more wishes after meeting her.”

The genuine emotions in Qu Xiujie’s eyes gave Ji Ziming a shock.

Could he truly be different from the rest of the Qus?

“I don’t understand why you have to visit my wife when you think that she resembles the lady in your memory. If my wife has a typical face, won’t the entire capital come running to my house to see her? They can easily claim that she looks like the women in their memories.”

Sarcasm was mixed in his words, but Qu Xiujie was neither anxious nor worried by it, for he was in the wrong at first by coming here just to stare at his wife.
