She suddenly recalled what Adeena had said. All of the gifts that seemed to have been given to her by
fate actually already had prices attached to them that required payment for them.
How much did she have to sacrifice before she could possess them…?
And was the sacrifice something she could afford?
Ruth raised her eyes to look at the man before her. “ Daniel, why do you keep giving me things? I want
to know the real reason.”
The question stumped Daniel. He really did not know how to answer it.
But when he saw the persistence in the girl’s eyes, he could only form an excuse on the fly. “On the
night of the banquet, I couldn’t bear to see such a beautiful girl get embarrassed … As for today, when I
saw these things, I thought they really suited you.”
Ruth’s eyes shone. “So you’re saying that you bought these specially for me?”
“I didn’t buy them myself…” Daniel revealed part of the truth. “Someone else bought them, you don’t
have to thank me so much.”
Ruth thought an assistant or a secretary must have bought them. But he still had to give the order
before they went and bought them.
‘Did this man really fall in love with me at first sight?‘
The giddiness she felt enveloped her. She was temporarily unwilling to think about those unreasonable
things..
It was not until noon, after the two had taken their lunch together, did Daniel drive Ruth back to the
apartment.
Adeena returned to the apartment after she fled Winters Corporation. She had been feeling restless all
morning.
She poured out a glass of red wine and stood on the balcony of the apartment, gazing at the scenery
as she took a sip from time to time. Soon, her impetuous mood subsided.
Just as she was about to go make lunch in the kitchen, she saw a car pulling up in front of the
apartment.
A man came out first and opened the door to the passenger seat like a gentleman. Then, Ruth stepped
out of the car, carrying a lot of gift boxes in her hands.
Ruth only turned around and went inside the house when the man‘s car disappeared from the entrance
of the apartment.
She hummed as she walked. When she pushed open the door, her face was flushed. At first glance,
she looked like a hopeless romantic.
Adeena crossed her arms over her chest and coolly said, “ Who was that man?”
Ruth got startled. “Why are you at home in the middle of the day?”
“I‘ll ask again. Who was that man?” Adeena‘s voice was very cold.
“I don‘t care how wild you want to live your life in Cloud City, but this is Sea City. If something
happened to you, your father and mother will definitely blame Duke. You‘d better explain this clearly!”
Ruth curled up her lips. “Is it so wrong to date someone?”
“If it was an ordinary romance, I really can‘t be bothered. But you‘ve only been in Sea City a few days,
and how long have you known that man?” Adeena frowned.
“Ruth, I‘m begging you to use your brain. No one in this world would be needlessly nice to you.”
“Hmph! You‘re just jealous of me!” Ruth sat on the sofa.“ Daniel fell in love with me at first sight. He‘d
buy me anything he sees. I tried to stop him, but it was useless. What can I do about that?”
Adeena really could not be bothered.
But she did not wish for Ruth to encounter any trouble, or Kendry and Jada would blame it all on Frank.
“Fine, then I’ll give Mother a call.”
“Hey! Adeena, why are you being so childish? What’s there to tell her?” Ruth stamped her foot. “Fine!
His name is Jones, Daniel Jones.”
‘Daniel Jones?‘ Adeena frowned. ‘Why does this name sound familiar?‘
She coolly said, “Aside from his name, what else do you know about him?”
“That’s all.” Ruth shrugged. “That’s all he told me, and I only learned that today. What’s wrong with
that?”
Adeena wanted to laugh in her face out of anger. Who else would dare to fall in love from just knowing
another person’s name?
