Chapter 581: Cult Obsession
I completely didn’t expect Gong CaiCai would participate in the field trip.
For one, she’s always had a subpar constitution and would always avoid outdoor activities. She would even often request to be excused from gym class (but she doesn’t do it anymore after Xiao Qin transferred here, as if she was afraid to be alone in the same classroom as Xiao Qin).
Secondly, after the class leader appointed Gong CaiCai as the learning committee member, she felt she couldn’t lose to anyone else at least on her studies. Even though she admitted to not being naturally gifted in that area, she put in a lot of hard work such as increasing study times and even joining cram schools in summer break to help her studies.
To be honest, she’s not that bad at her studies, at least she’s nowhere as bad as Xiong YaoYue.
It was laudable that Gong CaiCai could pull time out of her busy schedule and bravely participate in an outdoor activity, even the class leader was happy.
Gong CaiCai’s aunt drove away after she asked us to take care of her nephew. I then noticed Gong CaiCai was wearing contacts and not the same glasses when I saw her last Sunday at the Happy Science seminar.
Afterward, another three classmates, Niu ShiLi, Xu LiJun, and another one of the class leader’s loyal dogs arrived. The class leader went to talk a bit with them. When Xiong YaoYue noticed Gong CaiCai always hiding from her, she got bored and began chatting with Niu ShiLi and the others.
So after her protector and bully left, Gong CaiCai stood at the same spot and didn’t know what to do.
When she saw me standing guard by the frozen seafood, she suddenly said:
“So, so Ye Lin classmate wasn’t lying to me. Our class really is going on a field trip.”
Huh, are you referring to the random lie I made up to pull you out of that suspicious cult den?
That was a hundred percent a lie! There was no way I was able to predict the class leader would organize a field trip, it was simply a coincidence. I don’t think it’s a good thing for you to be so easily tricked.
I didn’t really say anything about the trip, but warned her: “I don’t think you should go back to the Happy Science place anymore, it’s all a bunch of lies.”
Gong CaiCai hesitated and wanted to retort, but she didn’t have the guts to do it in front of me. After hesitating for a while, she finally built up her courage and said:
“They aren’t lying, didn’t you already see the results of the causality calculator? Plus, my keratitis was cured thanks to the law of attraction.”
That’s true, she wouldn’t have been able to switch back to contacts if she still had keratitis.
But I still didn’t change my views on the Happy Science cult, “How did it cure your keratitis? Did you chant disappear keratitis every day and then it just disappeared?”
“That’s… not the case… Professor Bai said we sometimes have to rely on external sources to boost our own beliefs, so with his recommendation, I bought a certain eye drops…”
Damn, Professor Bai is a huge liar, why not open up a pharmacy instead of running a cult! It’s clear her keratitis was cured with the eye drops.
The Happy Science cult is much more sly compared to those evil cults who don’t let their members take medication. They let their believers have medical treatment, then distort the explanations with a bunch of contradictions, no wonder some highly educated people, and celebrities are fooled by it.
Of course, the most bizarre is the causality calculator that was actually able to find out a lot of my secrets. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.
“Gong CaiCai, be cautious.” I urged, “The reason your keratitis was cure had nothing to do with the Happy Science seminar…”
“Bu, but….” Gong CaiCai tried to defend her beliefs, “My keratitis only got better because of the eye drops Professor Bai recommended me…”
The look on Gong Cai Cai’s face that forced herself to speak up even if she was afraid because she didn’t want her faith to be destroyed, made people feel irritated.
I think Gong CaiCai was even more addicted to the cult than Xiong YaoYue was to LOL. I think she’s on par with Xiao Qin’s cousin who always squats in brushes.
There’s an ancient saying: serious sicknesses needs a serious treatment. So I should act a bit more mean to make Gong CaiCai understand the dangerous situation.
So I stiffened my face, slapped my leg, and yelled:
“Are you dumb? Professor Bai is at most a traveling performer who sells medicines, what else can he do? And that stupid ‘Law of Attraction’, based on his logic, the eye drops increased your faith which ‘attracted’ the keratitis to get cured?”
Gong CaiCai trembled after I scolded her, then she looked up at me and said:
“That’s right…”
I almost snorted out the noodles I ate last night.
“Why are you like this, if you can’t change…”
I unwittingly increased the volume of my voice. By the time I noticed, the class leader, Xiong YaoYue, Niu ShiLi, and the others had returned and saw me berating Gong CaiCai.
It would be good if they thought I was simply scolding her. I’m afraid some would think I was threatening her to do something nasty.
“Hey, why are you yelling at my Cai Cai.”
Xiong YaoYue walked over and kicked my running shoes. It didn’t hurt, but it was an obvious warning.
Then she lowered her voice and said with a displeased expression:
“Stop womanizing when you already have a girlfriend, or I’ll castrate you.”
Who’s being an womanizer? I’m trying to persuade Gong CaiCai to leave an evil cult.
The class leader was the one who hated seeing people bully Gong CaiCai, so she should have been the first one to criticize me.
But she swallowed her words when she saw Xiong YaoYue kick me and whisper something to me.
Niu ShiLi and Xu LiJun played a few games of basketball with me during the break, so we were now acquainted. The two of them walked over and Niu ShiLi said:
“Ye Lin, what are you doing? I don’t think bullying Gong CaiCai is much of an accomplishment for you, so did you speak too loudly and scared her?”
Ah, I’m touched, I’m actually touched. Niu ShiLi was actually able to see the truth. I guess it’s still men who understand other men.
“Ye, Ye Lin classmate didn’t bully me…” Gong CaiCai also explained for me, “He was speaking a bit loud and I got scared…”
What an angelic face coupled with angelic breasts! But it seems this is the personality that attracts others to bully her.
Our classmates slowly began to arrive. Even with the help of Niu ShiLi and other loyal dogs, the class leader was still overwhelmed with trying to keep order among the chaotic atmosphere and making sure to check everyone’s belongings.
Teacher Yu also arrived by bus when there were around 20 students. Under Xiong YaoYue’s leadership, everyone all pranked him and shouted: “Hello teacher.” It scared all the other passengers on the bus and they probably thought the teacher was weird if he was going to start a lesson at the bus stop.
Teacher Yu, who had no sense of humor, walked off the bus and smiled awkwardly at his students. Then he looked among the students to look for Shu Sha before he finally smiled when he spotted her.
About half the students had arrived, but Xiao Qin still wasn’t here. I couldn’t help but worry if something happened to her.
Everyone began talking about the latest news, but Gong CaiCai moved next to me to defend the Happy Science cult:
“Ye Lin classmate, the law of attraction is real, look… in order to become more courageous, I used a lot of the techniques Professor Bai taught me and now I even have the guts to participate in a class trip.”
Is that so? But the reason they are an evil cult is because they always tell you some truths and that’s why people fall for their lies.
I sighed, “Gong CaiCai, it’s fine if you keep believing the law of attraction. Whatever the case, you will still eat when you’re hungry and see a doctor when you’re sick, it’s just with a different understanding. It might help you become more extroverted…”
Gong CaiCai was surprised I suddenly changed my stance and it looks like she was bursting with joy. It looks like she was chanting to herself ‘make Ye Lin classmate believe me’ with her ‘law of attraction’ and now I basically made her beliefs come true.
“But…” in order to correct Gong CaiCai’s mistake, I said, “Don’t listen to their other ideologies. When Eunuch Cao’s dad was in japan, there was an evil cult that proclaimed to their female believers that you would increase your spirituality if you had a naked massage with the leader. They tricked a lot of female office workers who felt empty inside, so you better not fall for it.”
“If one day Professor Bai asked to have a naked massage with you, please don’t agree.”
Gong CaiCai lowered her head with red cheeks partially because I attacked her religion and partially because I gave an inappropriate example.
I looked anxiously towards the direction Xiao Qin might appear from.
