After dinner, Roderick left. Theresa slept with the two kids.
She hadn’t slept with them for a long time as she wanted them to be independent. Tonight, they might
need her to stay with them or she might need them to stay with her.
She sat there, reading them a bedtime story.
The two kids lay side by side, with their identical little heads next to each other on the pillow. Listening
to her story, they were getting sleepy. Leonard, in particular, was almost asleep.
Kids were just like that. Their emotions came and went quickly
Theresa looked at the two little ones and smiled gently, “Sweet dreams!”
She lay down as well and gazed at them.
She had been watching them grow up since they were babies. It was heartwarming to think about it.
Just looking at them, she put all those unhappy moments with Charlie behind her.
The next morning, Theresa and Cristina went to Eugene’s with the two kids.
It was not the apartment where Eugene had stayed before, but a villa, which was not too far away from
where Theresa lived now. It was also a tranquil place.
Theresa rang the doorbell. Soon, the gate was opened from the inside.
They walked in. Cristina followed Theresa, quietly looking at the building. She didn’t even know that
Eugene had a home like this.
Eugene opened the door for them. Seeing Theresa, he said, “Good morning”
As he spoke, he glanced at Cristina and seemed a little surprised. “What are you doing here?”
Cristina looked at the man and noticed how displeased he was to see her.
She was not even as welcome as Theresa?
Cristina said in exasperation, “I’m here to help Theresa! I’m her assistant today. Do you have a problem
with that?”
She glared at Eugene justifiably.
Theresa looked at Eugene and said, “You don’t want Cristina here? I can tell her to leave now.”
Eugene certainly wasn’t at the point of kicking Cristina out.
He glanced at Cristina and said, “Come on in!”
They were having breakfast and there was an old lady sitting in the dining room.
Eugene asked, “Have you had breakfast yet?”
Theresa said, “Yes. Is that your mother?”
She glanced into the dining room.
Eugene nodded. “Yeah.”
The old lady looked elegant.
Only she was sitting there with a melancholy look on her face and no light at all in her eyes.
Eugene said, “Please wait for a moment. My mother is still finishing her breakfast”
“I need to use the bathroom,” Ben said
Eugene told him where the bathroom was. Theresa stood up and went to the bathroom with Leonard
and Ben.
Cristina sat alone in the living room, looking around the place and then at Eugene’s mother from time to
time
She had known Eugene for some time without hearing him talk about his mother. She had never
expected to meet his mother like this.
Eugene walked into the dining room and sat down at the table.
The man who was usually dashing and cool outside looked a bit nervous in front of his mother.
Ella asked, “Who are they?”
It was rare to have visitors in the house!
She had to ask about them when they came today.
Eugene said, “You have been unwell, haven’t you? So I found an acupuncturist for you.”
Hearing Eugene’s words, Ella instantly said coldly, “Tell them to leave!”
“Mom.” Eugene looked at her and tried to persuade her.
However, Ella picked up the cup by her hand in the next second and threw it directly at Eugene’s head.
“Are you doing this on purpose? You just want to leave me to the doctor and put me in the hospital,
don’t you? I’m telling you, that’s not going to happen! You’ll have to take care of me every day for the
rest of your life unless I die.”
Cristina was sitting on the couch in a distance, but she could still feel how suffocating it was around
Ella, the old lady.
